The Year Of The Fox Posted 7 June 2011 Posted 7 June 2011 Anyone watch that afghan thing just now? Ross kemp filmed the moments chris gray got shot, but bbc3 have gone into far more detail. Very hard to watch. Made worse because of the fcuk ups during the casevac. Basic mistakes look like it cost him.

The Year Of The Fox Posted 7 June 2011 Author Posted 7 June 2011 Was he? But they were giving him mouth to mouth at one point, and when they handed him over to the Company Sergeant Major he was still alive. Lets not argue about that though, I don't want to open old wounds for anyone who knew him on here

Lets not argue about that though, I don't want to open old wounds for anyone who knew him on here The Dad mentioned it near the end of the programme but as you say not to be argued about. Knew a lad who got killed by an IED the Christmas before last, only 19 not nice. Don't know if i'd have the guts to do the job they do!
The Year Of The Fox Posted 8 June 2011 Author Posted 8 June 2011 Its not the job as such. Its the family you leave behind, walking out the door not knowing if they will ever see you again. I couldn't do that. Not with the missis I have now. She'd not cope
HEGGSY Posted 8 June 2011 Posted 8 June 2011 it was hard to watch at some points but seeing it from their point of view right in the middle of combat, shows how hard these young lads work and how we should all be proud of our troops, especially when thier that young
The Year Of The Fox Posted 8 June 2011 Author Posted 8 June 2011 my squaddie mates view on the program; Bbc3 has fueled my hatred for the muslim race even more!!! I think a touch of genocide is in order!! 20 hours ago via iPhone ·UnlikeLike · edit- did anyone notice the bit where chris grays mother read out the last letter from him? i had to laugh when they changed 'raghead' to 'enemy'
Tom17LCFC Posted 8 June 2011 Posted 8 June 2011 There's not many things on TV that get to me, but that was hard to watch. Thought it was a brilliant documentary, but well upsetting. I know this probably sounds sick, but at the end when they showed that dead taliban fighter, I was so happy, knowing he could have been the one that killed Chris. Just makes you realise what the troops actually have to go through, heroes!
The Year Of The Fox Posted 8 June 2011 Author Posted 8 June 2011 Its good watchin the taliban get shot. Thought it may have been against the rules of engagement but there u go
broughtonblue Posted 8 June 2011 Posted 8 June 2011 What was the prog called? Would love to see a repeat of this
Houdini Logic Posted 8 June 2011 Posted 8 June 2011 my squaddie mates view on the program; Bbc3 has fueled my hatred for the muslim race even more!!! I think a touch of genocide is in order!! People with that view shouldn't be allowed in the forces.
Guest Mee-9 Posted 8 June 2011 Posted 8 June 2011 People with that view shouldn't be allowed in the forces. Surely it's better than having someone who's that politically correct they refuse to shoot at the taliban on grounds 'it's not fair on the taliban, why can't we shoot white people, it's always the black people that we shoot.' PS: I'm not defending that view.
broughtonblue Posted 8 June 2011 Posted 8 June 2011 'Our war'. On iplayer Thanks, for anyone that's interested, this is repeated at 4.15 am on Friday bbc3, part 1 of 3. Sky plus set up
The Year Of The Fox Posted 8 June 2011 Author Posted 8 June 2011 Houdini logic- bollocks. He any many like that develop this attitude after being on tour! Id say that theyre probably more entitled to any opinion over the majority of us.

Id say that theyre probably more entitled to any opinion over the majority of us. Tell me how innocent muslims being shot because of the actions of a few is better than the c*nts that flew a plane into the twin towers to protest against the regime of a few? The taliban are not the 'muslim race' and someone in the army needs to understand that, especially when they're spending their lives around thousands of muslim civilians who are against the taliban and have nothing against the forces in their country.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 8 June 2011 Author Posted 8 June 2011 I understand your points. Just because some squaddies have that view doesn't mean they go round holding their rifles to afghan locals
FoxyPV Posted 14 June 2011 Posted 14 June 2011 It's their ****ing job - it's what they signed up to do (for the most part). All this veneration of the army bollocks does my ****ing head in.

So because it's their job, it's not brave? They're not deserving of credit because it's their job and they should do it anyway?

Fair enough if it's their job mate, but nothing can prepare you for what they go through e.g. watching a close mate get blown up by an IED. Would you wanna go out there and go through all of that?
FoxyPV Posted 15 June 2011 Posted 15 June 2011 So because it's their job, it's not brave? They're not deserving of credit because it's their job and they should do it anyway? They get far more credit than they deserve. The infantry and their ilk are trained killers. End of. The situation they are in at the moment is what they are trained to deal with. It's not like they've all been conscripted and forced to go there against their will. They all chose to join the Army and follow this particular path and ultimately knew that they may have to die in the line of duty. The veneration of the Army is an attempt by the state to support their chosen course of action by proxy. Typical Irishman. Just anti-militarist. Nothing to do with the place I was born. Fair enough if it's their job mate, but nothing can prepare you for what they go through e.g. watching a close mate get blown up by an IED. Would you wanna go out there and go through all of that? No and that's why I haven't joined the Army nor do I intend to.
The Doctor Posted 15 June 2011 Posted 15 June 2011 I'm tempted to agree with PV here, while what the military do is brave, they have chosen to follow this career path and will know they risk death. If conscription was still in place then this level of veneration would be more understandable but as it isn't, it's all a bit too much.
