AjcW Posted 24 June 2011 Posted 24 June 2011 2 Simple factors: Stuart Pearce is shit and loves hoof-ball! Fabio Capello, just Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr But I suppose both of those factors are caused by the clueless bastards that appointed them in the first place at the FA.

Capello however has only become a "bad" appointment since the World Cup finals, before then for two years he was seen as the best chance of success. It wasn't a terrible decision to hire him.
The Doctor Posted 24 June 2011 Posted 24 June 2011 Did you understand the question? It has nothing to do with the players, it's how the PL is run, marketed, televised and generally monopolising the English game. And how does that cause england to under-perform?

Agreed, maybe one day we'll stop blaming managers for our failings, but I doubt it.
Father Ted Posted 24 June 2011 Posted 24 June 2011 No. The way the youth academy kids are being trained and selected is ruining this country. For the last few years, children are simply selected from a young age depending on their height, build, strength and athleticism - and nothing to do with footballing ability. We play 11-a-side from too young an age and training methods are simply not up to scratch with too many drill based session. We have too many DRILLED players in this country like Lampard, Barry, etc. Nobody with flair, the only exceptions being Gazza and Rooney. There needs to be more conditional games, and players need to start playing 11-a-side at an older age which has now been resolved as Southgate has changed it to Under-14's now. The best way to look at it is that what background do the best players in the world come from? Pele? Messi? Maradona? All were street footballers - they weren't brainwashed with all of this drills bollocks.
Dickie Greenleaf Posted 25 June 2011 Posted 25 June 2011 Agreed. Good article in the telegraph along those lines today http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/8598029/European-Under-21-Championship-Spains-young-diamonds-dazzle-in-the-spotlight.html Continuity defines Spanish work. This commitment to a possession-based philosophy is highlighted in the eagle-eyed presence in Denmark of the driving forces of the Spanish FA: Hierro, sporting director, and the president Angel Maria Villar Llona. The pair boast 111 caps between them, bringing that wealth of knowledge from the dressing room to policy-making in the boardroom. The FA has Sir Trevor Brooking and Gareth Southgate, former England players, attempting to improve technical standards, but they lack the power-bases of Villar Llona and Hierro. If the Government inquiry into English football recommends two things it must be to introduce more playing experience into the FA boardroom and for county FAs to accept Southgate’s plans for more 9 v 9 games. The proposal is for English youngsters to delay playing 11 v 11 until under-13. The current under-11 level is ludicrously early and favours athletes, not ball-players. The Spanish do not start 11 v 11 until under-14.
