Rangers- Respect

So a few Rangers fans certainly riled me with their comments about us after beating them to secure Danns, but massive respect for this reception...

Valid, personally can't stand the club, but they deserve some respect for that...

Yeah, fair play to them for that.

I have to say that while there is much to criticise about Rangers support but they do give the troops the respect they deserve.

Me and Tilley both wore are Rangers shirts in Molly O'Grady's last night, we took a massive Union Jack and shouted 'we are the people.'

I like Rangers.

Great, did you do Nazi salutes and make bigoted remarks while you were at it?

Boy did we!

*To clarify, we didn't actually go. Although I do own a Rangers shirt that's so sexy it hurts and quite like them as a club. You know where my allegiance lies North of the border though. HIBBEES.

Still you ignore the Celtics beloved IRA and its links to nazi Germany

Big respect to Rangers for doing this. Would love us to do the same for the Anglian regiment at the Walkers :)

I don't give a toss about Celtic.

What I do have is a loathing for most clubs who seem to tolerate a worryingly large, far-right minority.

I couldnt give to flying monkeys about Scottish football in all fairness :sweating:

Its boring and dominated by two clubs.

Unlike the Premier League, we have 3 clubs!

Bluesi13- hopefully the club is going to sort something for when the 9/12 royal lancers get back in november.

I emailed the club last week after reading in the mercury something about their homecoming parade from afghan in november.

The club have acknowledged my email thanking me for 'bringing it to their attention' so lets see what they do

It would be a nice gesture for sure, despite peoples differing opinions on the conflict as a whole, these guys deserve to realise they are not alone when they are flown out to these hell holes our government decides they need to be sent too.

On a side not i'd also like to see our Police, Firefighters, and Nurses recognised publicly like those in the military aswell

I'd much, MUCH rather see firefighters and emergency medical staff commended than the armed forces, personally.

I'd happily stand up and applaud them.

Can't work out whether you're on the wind up sometimes.

They're paid x amount more a year for doing half as dangerous job.

They signed up to save lives, not take them.

And before you start, I am well aware that there are plenty of instances where members of the armed forces may have saved the lives of local civilians and their colleagues in the field. I'm also well aware, as are you, that ultimately the purpose of any soldier - regardless of how you dress it up - is to kill. And that is what they are trained, more than anything else, to do.

Yeah, go and slaughter badly trained, poorly equiped Iraqis, just in case they roll up and try and invade in their ironclads (that we sold 'em.)

God, I feel safer knowing they're out there. Nothing can harm me now!

... what? My house is what? BURNING?

Yeh kill so we don't have to kill ourselves!

Would you clap the firefighters who are ex forces?!;-)

I wouldn't be having to kill anyone regardless of whether we were engaged in pointless, futile wars in godforsaken countries.

In times past this was obviously a valid argument; those who partook in the two world wars, for example, deserve eternal recognition for their efforts to save Europe from absolute tyranny. But what am I giving today's soldiers my "respect" in return for? Despite the fact that I'll blindly join in with standing up and clapping parades of troops round the pitch when it happens at the Walkers, I actually honestly have no idea...

Indeed. I observe, with utmost reverance and respect, all things that honour the lives given to save Europe from fascism.

But applauding contemporary soldiers for doing a job they WANTED to do? Why exactly?

I mean that lad that single handedly saved a post from a whole unit of enemies recently and was awarded a medal for it? Hero. The bloke a few years ago that jumped on a grenade to save his mates? Hero. Don't get me wrong, that's worthy of a round of applause. But branding every soldier as a hero and treating them as if they're sacred? No thanks.

I agree entirely. When regiments parade around the pitchside at half-time and everyone is on their feet applauding and chanting "Ingerland!" I feel uncomfortable not joining in because I'd be looked upon like some kind of ungrateful traitor by everyone else there. And I've often felt completely alone in this attitude towards the armed forces because most mates and family have no idea what I'm talking about when I express this viewpoint...
