cairnsy Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 Schmeical Peltier Mills Ssl/tunch Masaila Wellans Abe/danns Gallagher King Vassell Nugent Cheeky little 4-2-3-1. Would hope That the 3-1 at the end of the transfer window it would be nugent Gallagher new winger Then Maynard up front. Gallagher playing the cf role
Hack Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 Updated to include Mills....IMO: Schmiechel Peltier Mills Bamba Masilela Wellens Danns King Vassell Nugent Gallagher Back up: Weale, Berner, St. Ledger, Abe, Waghorn, Oakley, Dyer, Howard Another Striker, maybe a Winger and a Midfielder then looking good I'd like Maynard and Routledge please Sven Dyer won't be here very long. I am guessing the same for Howard
RyanB89 Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 Not sure if Bamba has the discipline/composure to play that role, be great if he could, Peltier and Masilela could get well forward... I would take issue with King playing so far forward. Despite his goals King is not really a creative player, he simply does nothing to unlock defenses from 30 - 40 yards out. He does not play the penetrating pass and does not run at a set defence, on the counter and in the box he is a different player. I would be more inclined to play King and Danns in front of the back 4, (if we are not going to play with a 'sitting' midfielder) they would be strong defensively and King would be able to make his late runs into the box which would be that much harder to pick up. Give Wellens (or Gallagher if we get a wide man) the creative role in the hole behind the front three mentioned above. Sorry but
Hack Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 ---------------------KASPER-------------------- PELTS-----BAMBA-----MILLS---MASILELA --------------------WELLENS------------------- ------------DANNS-----KING-------------------- VASSEL------------------------------GALLY ----------------------NUGENT-------------------- WEALE, SSL, BERNER, ABE, DYER, WAGGY, SCHLUPP/HOWARD Ideally we'd get Maynard and shift Nugent out to the right. Yet to be convinced by Vassell. A top draw winger would be nice too. I really do like that team. Any more improvement in new additions and it gets scary good and more like a surviving Premier league team.
kingfox Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 Going with signings can honestly see this as our team at the start of the season. Schmeichel Peltier, Bamba, Mills, Masiela Danns, Wellens, King Signing, Signing, Nugent Bench Weale St Ledger Berner/Signing Abe Oakley Signing Gallagher
absolutelegend Posted 8 July 2011 Author Posted 8 July 2011 Going with signings can honestly see this as our team at the start of the season. Schmeichel Peltier, Bamba, Mills, Masiela Danns, Wellens, King Signing, Signing, Nugent Bench Weale St Ledger Berner/Signing Abe Oakley Signing Gallagher I'd go with that - except can't see another couple of signings coming in for the bench
kingfox Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 We have been linked with wingers so im sure Sven will target someone. If we don't get Maynard we will get someone else. Think the midfield is sorted, we do need a back up right-back or left-back so I can see Mee or Vitor or someone coming in to start of go on the bench. And another back-up striker to go on the bench, been linked with enough of them and Evans and Derbyshire could well come in along with Nugent and Maynard maybe. Works out really and a huge possiblity it will all happen, so 2 more main signings and 2 more to make our bench stronger.
hackneyfox Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 Sorry but You've posted some fairly daft things at times Ryan, would you like us to all start laughing at you? Dave is one of the more sensible posters on this board, you have a long way to go.
absolutelegend Posted 8 July 2011 Author Posted 8 July 2011 I can see Mee or Vitor or someone coming in to start of go on the bench. Do we think we're still after any of Mee, Vitor, Yak, Van Aanholt or Naughton? You'd have thought at least one would have come back on board by now

Er... his late runs in to the box which are always very difficult to read have become a defining trait of how we get goals. It's been mentioned by several opponent managers in the last couple of seasons as something they struggled to deal with. Add to that the fact that he's a clearly a very accomplished finisher and I would suggest that it would be ridiculous to play him any further back.

kingfox Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 Do we think we're still after any of Mee, Vitor, Yak, Van Aanholt or Naughton? You'd have thought at least one would have come back on board by now Honesty believe we are still after Mee and Vitor, says so in the Mercury and Sven has said it also, Yakubu doubtful now but you never know, Van Aanholt no thanks and Naughton yes please but doubtful. I just have a feeling that we will get another right-back or left-back in, he even might be good so it's also possible that Peltier or Masiela may start on the bench first game.
marbelladave Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 Neither of those two can play that role. Have you forgotten a certain japanese maverick? Neither of those two can play that role on their own. Hence the need for two players, each doing part of the job. It's about discipline and composure, Abe does not have it, he's more of a terrier type pressing the opposition, what we need is some way of covering the back 4 when our fullbacks go forward, as they will. Either we need a specialist holding player, which we don't have or we need to find another way of achieving the same end. King and Danns are both intelligent players who can play a disciplined role, King is excellent in his own box but too lightweight to be effective defensively in the middle third. Danns all round game should be effective in this area. Going forward King can still make his runs and coming from deeper positions will be more difficult to pick up than when he plays further upfield. He is at his best in the penalty area, both of them in fact.

Add to that the fact that he's a clearly a very accomplished finisher and I would suggest that it would be ridiculous to play him any further back. You are actually making my point for me.... The further forward he plays the easier he is to mark and the less effective he becomes. He is at his best bursting into the box at the last second, he can do that more effectively from deeper positions. It is these 'late runs' that the opposition 'struggle to deal with'. In addition he lacks physical presence in the middle third, where he does his defensive work when playing the attacking midfield role. It is this lack of presence that leads to him apparantly 'disappearing' in some games. Moving him 'further back' gives him space and makes him more effective going forward, not less and we get the added bonus of a player who is very good defending in his own box.

I take you're point and while it's valid, he can make late runs from any position, I think planting a tree in the King Power would be more effective defensively than Kingy.

In midfield you are quite correct, he simply does not impose himself at all, tries to work the angles and deny the opposition space but that is nothing like good enough at our level. In (and around) our own box it is a very different story, goal line clearances, last ditch tackles and strength in the air all make him very effective indeed. Sod the midfield, just get him to play in both penalty boxes....
