Fox92 Posted 28 July 2011 Posted 28 July 2011 Ok. Your back 5 is what i`d have... But no King or Danns ? I'm not sure. I don't know where Danns will fit in, not bothered about King. If we sign a striker, I'd push Nugent out wide and Dyer would be dropped.
Haydos Posted 28 July 2011 Posted 28 July 2011 Ok. 3 people seem to have agreed with me. You include Dyer yet you're not bothered about King? He'll be one of the first names on the teamsheet and imo we should build the midfield around him.

I only included Dyer because I don't rate Gallagher. If we were to sign a striker, Dyer would be dropped and Nugent would be forced out wide like I said. And no I'm not bothered about King. He doesn't get stuck in enough or involved enough and does lack pace to build a team around him. You say Abe isn't cut out for this league yet he's probably the best defensive midfielder we have.

@cheyette Posted 28 July 2011 Posted 28 July 2011 I think the whole point is of Svens team is there isn't a starting 11 but just two good options (with a flexible Spare) ____________________________Schmiechal___________________________ Flexible Spare ______________________________Weale_____________________________ (Smith) ________Pantsil____________Mills________Bamba__________Konchesky___ (Tunchev) ________Peltier____________Ball_________St Ledger________Berner_____ _______________Johnson_________King___________Wellens____________(Moussa) _______________Danns__________Oakley___________Abe______________ ______________Nugent__________Howard_________Gallagher___________ (Schlupp, Kermogant- one will go) _____________Dyer_____________Waghorn_________Vassell___________ I think Oakley and Waghorn are both likely/ should be replaced and then thats a team of 22 that could play in any combination depending on the away/ form/ injuries

Probably looks like the white board in Svens office as what he was trying to build. Only change will occur when he brings in a new sriker and possibly a new attacking wide player.
Guest ttfn Posted 29 July 2011 Posted 29 July 2011 In the absence of any further signings, assuming no injuries and that Johnson is 100%, the team I'd go with (and I think Sven might too) is: Schmeichel Pantsil Mills Bamba Konchesky Wellens Johnson King Gallagher Nugent Vassell
millzi Posted 29 July 2011 Posted 29 July 2011 Schmeichel Pantsil Mills St. Ledger KoncheskyKing DannsNugent Johnson GallyStriker Fernandes would be perfect in our 3 man midfield going on what I've seen of him. Love the 4-2-3-1 formation! Gives you a perfect balance defensively as well as in attack. Would suit the players we have very well, really do hope we sign another striker that we can focus our 'front four' around, someone that can feed off all the service he'll be getting from the abundance of players behind him.
MC Prussian Posted 29 July 2011 Posted 29 July 2011 Something like a 4-2-1-2-1 formation: Schmeichel Konchesky Mills St. Ledger Pantsil Danns Johnson King Gallagher Vassell Nugent/That magic 20+ goals striker
Swalker Posted 29 July 2011 Posted 29 July 2011 Can we not just sneek on 15 players. Sure ref wont see. too many players to decide between. like wellens and abe are too good to be dropped but then king, danns and johnson all are too good to not play.

Jfox Posted 29 July 2011 Posted 29 July 2011 From the teams Sven has picked in Pre season, I'm pretty sure that his starting 11 will be Kasp Peltier Bamba Mills Konchesky Wellens King Johnson Gally Vassel Nugent. If we get another striker then Vassel will be dropped. Peltier instead of Pantsil because he gets forward a lot more, similar to Naughton.
Raw Dykes Posted 29 July 2011 Posted 29 July 2011 If the rumours are true, the following could be our actual squad, which I would be more than happy with: ____________________________Schmeichel___________________________(Smith) ______________________________Weale_____________________________ ________Pantsil__________Bamba_________Mills___________Konchesky___ (Berner, Kennedy) ________Peltier_________St Ledger_______Tunchev___________Ball_______ _______________Danns_________Fernandes___________Johnson_________(Oakley, Moussa, Moreno) _______________Wellens____________Abe_______________King_________ ______________Vassell____________Nugent_________Gallagher__________ (Waghorn, Schlupp, Howard, _____________Townsend________(New Striker)_________Dyer____________ N'Guessan, Kermorgant, Crncic)
Sthlm Fox Posted 29 July 2011 Posted 29 July 2011 My eleven would be (4-1-2-3): Schmeichel Pantsil, Mills, St Ledger, Konchesky Wellens King, Johnson Vassell, "new striker", Gallagher subs: Weale, Bamba, Dyer, Danns, Nugent.

I thought Townsend was like 80% coming so hopefully still is. I actually think St Ledger will be ahead of Bamba too. Other than that, spot on! I think players like Dyer and Vassel could hopefully surprise us this year and be excellent coming off the bench for us as they are determined to prove themselves. I guess Sven is set on 4-3-3 this season, which I guess in modern football is a nice system to play. Hopefully we can still play with width

Hopefully we can still play with width I think a lot of the best 22 players will be rotated throughout the season, so maybe players like Bamba and St Ledger will start roughly the same number of games. I agree with you about Dyer and Vassell. Vassell especially - he hadn't played in a long while when he joined us, and now he's had a full pre-season I think he could well be the most improved player in our squad over last season. I expect we will be employing formations like 4-3-3, 4-1-3-2 and 4-3-1-2, considering how many CMs and how few proper wingers we have. Don't worry about the width, though. The full backs and wide forwards will provide this, while the extra man in midfield keeps the balance defensively.

Am definately seeing us employe a 4-1-3-2 away from home, with Gelson sitting behind johnson, danns and king with Darius and Nugent up top..

Yes, definitely. And if we need a goal towards the end of the match, we can easily switch to an attacking 4-3-3 by taking off one CM for a forward.
Guest NGoloMode Posted 29 July 2011 Posted 29 July 2011 Schmeichel Pantsil - Mills - Tunchev - KoncheskyFernandesKing ---------- JohnsonGallagher --------------------------- VassellNugent Not convinced with Bamba really and honestly haven't seen much of St. Legder so I'm sticking Tunch in there. Vassell cannot cross to save his life so if he's on the left he can cut in and try and score some goals this season. Gally is a good striker of the ball and his corners aren't bad so if he's on the right he can put some decent crosses in.
