Dickie Greenleaf Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 Announced retirement today http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/manchester-city/8637541/Patrick-Vieira-announces-retirement-from-playing-football-and-will-take-up-new-development-role-with-Manchester-City.html For me still the best CM of the premier league. Possibly exceeded by Keane, but at his peak, Gerrard and Lampard wouldn't hold a candle to him. Won nearly everything there was to win. Absolute legend. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyRy0C9dxe8
I am Rod Hull Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 Agreed... Used to love the Man U v Arsenal games, for the Keane / Vieira battles... Top player...
MikeyT Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 Agreed... Used to love the Man U v Arsenal games, for the Keane / Vieira battles... Top player... Same here, not the same anymore for me without battles and feuds like that. Too wussy nowadays. Great player.
FoxyPV Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 Keane eyeballing the **** out of him and asking him if he loved Senegal so much why didn't he play for them is one of my favourite PL moments Him, Petit, Overmars and Pires was an absolutely spanking midfield.
accessory Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 Him, Petit, Overmars and Pires was an absolutely spanking midfield. Would have been, if they'd ever played together. Overmars left the gooners in 2000 and Pires was signed as his replacement.
Fox92 Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 Fantastic midfielder who won everything. Very strong, good in the air etc. That Arsenal team (Vieira, Pires, Bergkamp, Henry, Parlour, Adams, Keown etc) was one of the best teams I've seen. Get him in as our new defensive coach...

He's already got a job as "football development executive" at the Etihad. He was immense during his Arsenal days, involved in two double-winning teams and skippering the invincibles of 2003-04. I bet Wenger wishes he had a midfielder like him now.
Samilktray Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 Best central midfielder to play in the Premiership.

Finchy Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 Best central midfielder to play in the Premiership. Scholes.
Jordan Posted 14 July 2011 Posted 14 July 2011 Remember Vieira's slide-rule pass to Ryan Giggs in extra time of the 1999 FA Cup Semifinal? Anyway, more seriously, it's no coincidence that Arsenal haven't been the same in the league since Vieira left. I'm not sure he's absolutely the best central midfielder in Premier League history but he was more valuable to Arsenal than Keane and/or Scholes were to Manchester United.
