enough signings for promotion push?

i'm surprised we had odds as short as 14-1, and why the hell are wolves so highly fancied again?

Because the media etc are seduced by big names and unfulfilled reputations - Hoddle.

Although their 20 (?) match unbeaten run at the end of last season could be a sign of things to come.

I'd add that I'd really like to see either Morris or Canero prove themselves next year if they have the opportunity.  Both seemed reasonably good signings on paper.  It would be a pity if neither achieved anything for us - we're not exactly overflowing with talent in the RM position.

I saw a lad today who might fill the role --- but not for a few years cos he's only about 9! Name of Ollie, son of a PE teacher, turned out in goal, central defence and midfield (sometimes all at once it seemed to me) for Doddington in a junior tournament at Burton Latimer.

Some event by the way. Loads of teams and well organised. Must have been three or four hundred people there and this Ollie stood out like an oasis in the desert.

Worked like the pistons of an old steam engine, kept his head up to feed defence splitting passes to team-mates, tackled fiercely but cleanly and all with a big broad and perpetual grin on his face.

Only one there who ran on his toes, obviously lacked the words "give up" in his vocabulary and also showed himself capable of scoring (cracking goal) even from his defensive base (boy did that please him).

If the coaches couldn't make a footballer of that chap then they'd be better off in another profession. Told him there and then if the scouts come calling, make sure you choose Leicester.

maybe not signing lots of players wil be a reason why we go up if we do, lots of new faecs arriving every week or two isn't the best because you've got the whole settling in period at your new club and it is quite hard, so with the squad only having a few new faces the team will be able to play better with each other imo

I think the priority has to be a striker to play alongside Connolly - Someone with pace and strength. All this talk of needing a left winger is irrelevant as Levein will play Sylla right side, with the left flank remaining narrow with Tiatto or another midfielder (Williams/Hughes) buzzing around...

Your dead right, If we dont have someone who can put the ball in the net. Then the rest of the players dont matter

I seriously cant believe how Leicester fans swing from being overly optimistic to overly pessimistic in one season...

If you look at the teams in this division you'd have to say we have a fair chance of one of the play off places... :scarf:

We said that last season as well about automatic promotion...

Considering Levein wants all his signings in by July 1st, he's got about 9 days to get 3 or 4 signings in.

Hopefully this is the case and we have an exciting week or so as it's so boring at the minute.

Simply because if we do go up next Season we will go straight back down again.  Any of our players who are actually good will probably leave, Levein will ended up being sacked, and we'll end up in a situation like we were this Season where the majority of our fans refuse to accept that we are not Premiership quality any more, and will expect miracles.

I would rather we spent a couple of Seasons developing into a good side, with a good team ethic, and a bunch of players who feel like they belong to this club.  I think a team like that would have a far better chance of staying up, when we eventually get promoted again.

Of course I would celebrate if we got promoted next year, but I would rather develop slowly (while at the same time our fans realising the kind of team we actually are).

Hope the manager and City players don't feel like that. Might just as well chuck our scarves in a heap and spend Saturday's playing snooker.

Football is about passion... about trying to make indiviudals into a clan that is fueled with so much self belief that they perform miracles beyond their own wildest expectations. Martin O'Neil showed the way.

Can't imagine him sitting down with the likes of Walshie, Marshall and Claridge to talk about the merits of finishing 10th. And what about all these dire predictions about what happens if we do go up.

Players react to people around em. If you're an ordinary player who becomes part of extraordinary team, why on earth would you want to leave? Most of City player's now are here because of Levein. If he leads em to the Promised Land of the Premiership why on earth would they swop that?

Perhaps they might be tempted by the big three but how many Big Three potential players have shown up in the Walkers floodlights of late. O'Neil didn't suffer from a mass exodus and I don't think Levein would either.

Things can go wrong if you build slowly. No, let's be as good as we can. Let's believe in ourselves and let's go slay the Dragon that is every side currently above us in the League.

Claridge at Wembley or another dose of 1-O against the likes of Forest and Brighton. I know what I'd sooner have and if we come tumbling down from the great heights of the Premiership so what. Let's come down shouting and snarling and determined to climb right back up again. You can keep your bloody tenth. If they want that at City then why not get a manager from Asda?

hmmm for next season the postions i think we need to 'fill' are

Keeper - We have filled this postion and i wouldnt buy any more keepers.

Left Back.... i would push stewart into left wing as he has a good shot, hes fast.. and he uses skill alot which lets him down at leftback because he is too far down the pitch to use it.. If levein did push stewart up to left wing i would move tiatto down then get a backup left back.

Center Back - Word that matt heath is going, it would be a good idea to just get a back up player for this postion and stick with Mcarthy + Stearman..

Right Back - Maybury is more than good enough to secure a first team place in this postion, he is young, he has showed he isnt affraid of stepping up the pitch.. and he has showed that he can score.. hes got a good tackle and seems to not be affraid to get stuck in like some of our players :P

Left Mid - I said in (Left Back) i would play stewart here, i think he has played here afew times before and i have seen him hit afew good shots aswell.. i think he would be the christiano of the championship (and on the left side) :P

Center Mid - Williams, Hughes and Joey... spoilt of choice IMO, my to favorite players at leicester @TM are williams and hughes but i wouldnt play them both together, they are too alike i would use Joey and Hughes.

Right Mid - Syla is the only player i can see playing here.. i think a good back up all round midfeild player would be decent, some one who can play the whole of the mid feild... but syla is going to be good for us :)

Striker - Yeh well, We need a stiker big time.. More than any thing.. i do not rate De Vries atall, i rate connolly and i think he will do alot better next season, because if you noticed last season he was out on the wings most of the time, and towards the end when keith hit form he was socreing goald because he was focuseing on his job and not wing play.. I think we need a big striker, some one like De vries, but good :) Some one who can hold the ball up, score with his head and always a permanent threat on the incomeing crosses.

Of course deep down everybody would be overjoyed if we got promoted next season or any given season. I think what some fans are concerned about is the vicious circle that we've been in and the short term goings on at the club. If you get promoted too quickly and your team isn't ready for the premiership then you come back down, often alot of your good players will be snapped up by the vultures of the premiership and your in a worse position than you were when you went up first time round.

Then you need another 10-15 players and it's soul destroying. However I like the way Norwich and West Brom have done things and that's the way i'd like to see Leicester do it. What we must not do if we get promoted is panic buy and fill the team with so called 'experienced' short term signings like Adams did. We should continue with our policy of signing young and hungry players with a point to prove. That way we are in a good position to retain the majority of our squad if we got relegated the following season.

Continuity needs to play a big part over the next few seasons at Leicester and that's why I can undertsand why some fans think for the long term future of the club in terms of maintained success another season or so in this league isn't a bad thing if we can improve each season and go from strength to strength.

We are in a horrible league, full of horrible teams and getting out of it is hard enough, but staying up with the elite teams is even harder and it seems teams don't get that many bites at the cherry these days and that's why it's crucial we lay the foundations to take this club back where it belongs for a long ****ing time.

Levein's the man to do it, whether it takes a season or 3 seasons, the main thing i'm looking for is improvement and signs that we are building a strong force in English football.

We definitly need a striker. I rate Connelly and we saw how well he played at the end of the season, just a shame for him that the season had to end. He had a difficult start to the season but i think Levein has helped with his confidence. I just hope he keeps faith with him next season instead of MDV. So, along with DC, you need a Heskey type player or someone with good vision and a good header of the ball. Dont know if there is anyone out there available but im sure Levein has his scouts looking.

A problem last year was supplying the strikers and this was one reason why DC struggled at the start of last season. We need a crosser like Guppy in the side especially on the right, something with Gillespie didnt do much coz he kept comming in the middle. I think the Jordon Stewart could be the man on the left but he can get a bit arrogant IMO. Momo on the right could work but i still reckon we need out and out winger espeically if Momo is requiered in other positions.

Overall the side does need a bit of improvment if we are going to be serious for a promotion, plus we have to build a squad that would form a foundation for the any side if we did get promoted. Dion Dublin said that he is looking forward to the future because he has been told of possible signings so it will be interesting to see who Levien brings to the club int he next few weeks, if any.

I know, it has been a dull few weeks on the LCFC site, not hearing of any new signings or links with any new players except Mads Timm :P but even that wasnt announced officallys just some one told me they read it in the paper. I think levein is keeping it quiet on what he is doing because when people go loud about who they are buying other clubs come straight in for them.. like what happened with Scott Parker and Forsell... they both went other clubs instead of the intending 'new homes'

Only time will tell, and the closer we get to the season i will want to see some changes if we are going to be any threat atall to the play off postions.

definately a long way off the promtion places, 11th currently(alphabetical order) and may finish where we start

Doesnt this sort of statement from a city fan annoy everyone? I completely agree with Thracian and fans/players that will be considering anything but promotion/play-offs as a 'good' season are not true blue. you cant settle for a mid table finish - that sort of opinion will get you about as far as forest!

Why shouldnt we do well next season? less of the negative attitudes - its only june....theres more than a month left of pre-season and it doesnt take 24 hours to sign a player, all i can say is Up the Foxes and bring on Shef Utd and Fat Neil Warnock!!!!
