Last season we needed to stick with the same players in defence so it 'gel' and tighten up, but now people want to bring back Tunchev so we've got four CBs to choose from. so you would rather have only 2 or 3 available? i think that 4 is a good number. i know we need to get a settled back 4 and it looks like that will include a bamba mills CB partnership, but what if mills progress takes another nosedive or one of them gets injured? we cant rely on 18 year olds surely. and i dont want to "bring back tunchev' straight into the first team. i just think we should be open to his return if he continues to play well and convince us that he has recovered form and fitness.
Thracian Posted 3 September 2011 Posted 3 September 2011 Based on one[ decent season in League One over two seasons ago, why are people building up Tunchev as some sort of Baresi/Maldini hybrid? He is a reasonable centre-half, but id have Mills, Bamba and SSL ahead of him any day of the week! We've had Mills, Bamba and SSL for five games and so far our goal difference is four worse than Palace's. We've conceded eight goals and Palace four. We've conceded two goals in four matches, Palace in only one. Tunchev is a proven international so the suggestion that he might need to "prove himself" seems lame. Sven has left him at Palace because he doesn't want to make his own job harder having himself signed Bamba, Mills and SSL. No-one has written St Leger off or anyone else. But, like me, some are concerned about the goals we're leaking and the absence of a bloke like Tunchev who happens to read the game so well. Of course he could get injured again, but there's no suggestion of it so far after a pretty intense month or so of combative football. For me this is all about politics not ability. My guess is that Tunchev will be moved on whatever. If we get promoted that will be justified. If we don't and keep conceding goals at the current rate, it probably won't.

Mills at roughly £5m hasn't convinced me yet of Sven's valuation of him. Early days though I guess, IMO.
