leicesterseddon Posted 15 August 2011 Posted 15 August 2011 I also grew up going to football in the late 70's/ early 80's. Your right there were no funfairs, but there was mass fighting, knives, and an oppressive environment that left kids terrified. Funfairs or violence, I know which I prefer for my kids! Just to add I agree that the X Factor rejects are a joke and I'd also be happy to see that ended ASAP. This is all true - certainly the atmosphere at modern football games is better now than in the 80s, not just for families put for a lot of other people, and the increase on the gates shows that. However, I do worry about the way some young fans may now view the experience of going to a match. I grew up watching Leicester in the 90s at Filbert Street and was regularly attending matches from the age of 7/8 or so. I was young, but I was expected to behave like a fan - and that meant paying attention throughout the game. There was some other 'matchday entertainment' no doubt (who remembers the cheerleaders?), but the game and events on the pitch were the prime concern, the only reason for turning up. The game on the pitch was the primordial event and I understood that very quickly. Now, I worry that the game is simply one part of the day for some of the kids at the ground, a filler between the Fans' Village (starting at 1.30pm), X Factor performance before the match and the dancing or whatever at half-time. The concept of the 'day out' I feel has changed the experience of going to the game. Some of the kids down there now are patently too young to be attending games, as they lack the concentration span for 90 minutes and soon are evidently bored and begin to crawl around (some almost literally on all fours) up and down the stands during the game.
Topman Posted 15 August 2011 Posted 15 August 2011 Jamie Afro was terrible but with all the advertisement I don't really care, as long the owners are pumping money into the club
Guest MattP Posted 15 August 2011 Posted 15 August 2011 Jamie Afro was terrible but with all the advertisement I don't really care, as long the owners are pumping money into the club I think we'll have Top and Vichai doing karoake at half time by the end of the year, we all know how these asian guys like to have a few drinks and then try their luck at 1980's europop. On a serious note, while they are pumping money is there anything they we wont put up with? I couldnt of been the only one to be slightly upset by the removal of club legends to hang a huge gatorade banner up at every opportunity. God I am jealous of clubs like Norwich now still with their old ground, local ownership, young british management and flying through the league's doing it the proper way.

I can see a KingPower cash and carry opening up in the car park before long or in the close vicinity to the stadium. I just hope the owners are being sensible and it wont go tits up because its like the club are in cuckoo land at the minute. You cant tell me its normal to have a funfair and x factor rejects in the carpark of a football stadium on a matchday.

I sit in the family stand because I have a young son who likes to come along with his dad to games. Because it's the family stand I understand that I will be up and down in my seat more often than the other stands because when kids need to go for a piss mid half they will go whereas adults will wait, although having sat in the kop a few times in the past I have seen adults that cant sit still for more the 10 minutes either!! Football is and always will be about the football. The rest is just a bonus (Or a punishment if we are talking about Jamie Affro) The new owners and the new CEO are finding their feet in a new field of business and are testing the water in different ways. Those who want to live in the past can do so by not participating. p.s. I've hardly noticed one word of criticism for the rat pack who performed pre match prior to the big haired gimp. Would that be something to do with the two tasty dancers behind them in showgirl outfits with leotards that had been eaten by their arse crack?! That certainly was something for the dads! The Birch nearly blew a gasket!!

I suppose. Anything to get more people through the gate is a good thing. To me it just seems a little out of place but hey ho if the kids like it.

Guest MattP Posted 15 August 2011 Posted 15 August 2011 No its like we're owned by successful business men who are trying something different to get a wider range of people through the gates every week. How?? Are you seriously suggesting people will buy tickets to watch City because they hear of the good half time entertainment or the X Factors rejects are on? This is just ridiculous. I've got a very simple strategy that brings people in through the gate they might want to try. 1. Good football 2. Tickets a reasonable price I can't think of a single football club that does both and suffers from thousands of empty seats every saturday.
Guest MattP Posted 15 August 2011 Posted 15 August 2011 You cant tell me its normal to have a funfair and x factor rejects in the carpark of a football stadium on a matchday. It quite simply isn't is it? If I saw a funfair on a football car park I would be inclined to think the gypos had turned up. I have no problem with the "fan village" etc in fact it would be great it we took a leaf out the Americans book and allowed fans to have a tailgate party in the car park before the game, but that involves alcohol, singing and can get a bit boistrous, see in England they dont want you enjoying yourself too much.

I love the new players and the new shop etc as much as the next man but I think the spending is irratic. There isnt one forum of other teams in our league that doesnt say the same thing about us. We are in cloud kuckoo land. People seem to think with all the money being chucked around and all the "improvements" and entertainment etc we are like some untouchable force who will destroy the league. Like Kasper said on the FP video, all the mad expectation has got to stop and I think all this hype with the fans village etc just builds it up more.
Guest MattP Posted 15 August 2011 Posted 15 August 2011 Dont think their is any doubt a lot of our fans are in cloud cuckoo land....... When you hear "We're Leicester City, we're buying the league" after 1 game you dont have to be a genius to work out we have a significent amount of supporters who already see this season as over. Anything could happen this year. if you actually looked at the bigger picture and got past the singing you would see they are very sensible. one of the reasons there multi millionaires.. Surely the reason top is a multi-millionaire is because of his father?

Guest MattP Posted 15 August 2011 Posted 15 August 2011 where did i say TOP ?? i said THERE... im sure his father has an input in the club... What makes you think a man who runs a retail firm will make a succes of running a football club? Just because you got rich doesnt mean you are going to be a big success over numerous industries. David Gold?Mike Ashley? He admits himself he is an avid polo fan who doesnt known much about football, I would hope his input into the club is minimal.

Our squad is huge now. We have enough players for like 2 teams and then some. I dont just mean spending on players though - obvs that is the most important part to our club. But things like relaying the pitch twice in a season, putting the big screens in (do we really need them considering they dont even show the time), the money they're ploughing into the training ground, the funfair and the entertainment, the total revamp of the stadium. As brilliant as it may all be, that much spending in a year is irratic. You only have to listen to the radio or EMT or watch the football league show to hear that we are supposed to take this league with ease. Im sure other clubs are jealous but I too am concerned everything is building us up for failure. Leicester have never dealt well with high expectation and this arrogance we seem to have aquired this season isnt helping.

I have no idea if he will be a success, that depends on his long term commitment, his task to stabilise the club's finances so it can become self-sufficient in 3/4 years, his temperament with management dismissals and his ability to be able to pick managers than can build and produce successful football teams on the budget he can provide. What makes you think he will be a success?

We got a state of the art new pitch so we wouldn't have to keep relaying pitches when it gets into the state it has done in the past and becomes detrimental to our play. The big screens as previously mentioned pay for themselves and eventually make money through advertising. The training ground obviously wouldn't physically make us money but its to achieve our on field goals, and can also sway potential signings when they visit. The 'funfair' is to bring in a wider demographic of fans. These guys aren't like some Carson Yeung figure who can potentially sink a club and then pop up somewhere else with another investment arm, they've very much put themselves, their business and their reputation on the line.

Come on, if this project fails it makes absolutely no difference to King Power whatsoever. They have a monopoly over the airports in Thailand. 1. It's not as if airport shoppers will go elsewhere. 2. Do you really think people in Thailand care less what happens to LCFC.
