Annoyed letter to F.A

Whats that got to do with anything?

The bottom line of it was that it wasn't a penalty and not a sending off!

Im not sure if you have a problem..or dont understand the concept of a forum, but to make this clear for you. One of the posts in this topic, (specifically ..."If we carried on attacking saturday the referee couldnt of affected the game") was discussing the fact that we backed off. I was expressing my opinion about that point.

The VERY bottom line is... A penalty was given... therefore it WAS a penalty... Kaspar was sent off...therefore it WAS a sending off.

Mate, whilst I understand your frustration that this has carried on a bit and most people would prefer to forget, all I have done is ask the F.A. and the referees'association to clarify 3 things.

1) What was the reasoning to think that Matt Mills had handled the ball deliberately?

2) Was the referee certain that Kasper Schmeichel was aware of the first yellow card

3) Is a copy of the referee's report obtainable.

All in my own opinion valid questions to make to 'professional' referee's.

I apologise if this has caused you any offence, as that was not my intention.

Sorry mate, Please dont misunderstand, im not having a go at you at all... perfectly reasonable for you to act how you see fit

Whilst I know my letter will never actually see the game replayed, it will never result in the referee being disciplined or any compensation payed to Leicester City Football club whether that be league points or financial, I feel that it is information that the 4,000 fans who travelled to the City Ground on Saturday are entitled to.

Dear Mr. Bernstein and and Mr. Poulain,

I Know you two are very busy men, but I was wondering what it feels like to have people wasting your time.

Yours sincilery,

Mr. Kirkup

This is a copy of a letter I have sent to David Bernstein (Chairman of the F.A) and Alan Poulain (Chairman of the referees' association). What good will it do? Probably nothing. However, out of sheer frustration, here it is.

"I feel compelled to write to you today regarding the actions of referee John Moss and the way he officiated the game between Nottingham Forest and Leicester City on Saturday, 20th August 2011 at the city ground.

I understand that referee’s play a great role in the game we all love. In addition, referee’s have a particularly tough job. However, on this particular occasion, I feel utterly dismayed that Mr Moss could make such a poor decision.

The incident in question is the decision to award Nottingham Forest a penalty kick for handball by Leicester City’s captain Matt Mills. Matt Mills was on the ground when the ball struck his arm. Matt Mills was not even facing the ball when it struck his arm and I am horrified that this can be deemed to be ’deliberate’. I would like to know what reasoning that Mr Moss used to justify this conclusion.

My second query regarding this particular game is whether Mr Moss had administered the first yellow card to Leicester City’s goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel in the correct manner. Mr Moss is yet to publicly refute Kasper Schmeichel’s claim that he was unaware that he had been yellow carded.

I would be most grateful if you could provide me with a copy of Mr Moss’s match report.

It is with great sadness that I have felt compelled to write to you today. However, every professional in the world is accountable for their actions. It appears that professional referee’s appear to be untouchable and unaccountable.

I apologise profoundly if this letter has offended you or Mr Moss in any way."

When you receive a response, make sure you post it on here.

Love how people keep saying 'it happens, move on'. They obviously have the same attitude as the FA then, because if no one is willing to make it an issue it will keep on happening. It's as simple as that. Why do Referees get away with making such decisions? Because there is no system in place to punish them if they haven't performed to a suitable standard. They're protected.

System's a joke.

It's like the 'Life isn't fair' rebuttal when you dispute the fairness of something.

Why is it acceptable to actively try and make things more unfair?

I dont think we backed off prior to the goal on Saturday. Nugent was exhausted (unsurprisingly given the work he put in) and replaced by Gally, Gally's role was basically the same as Nugents...up front and run.

Florist kicked up the pressure, again as expected given the scoreline, their increased pressure forced us back and also forced us into playing more hoofball. Once the peno and sending off occurred we were flat out and effectively just playing for survival.

When Sven brought Gally on, i was slightly disapointed as i didnt feel we were being careful enough to protect our lead.

You've destroyed your own argument in talking about "protecting" our lead because that was exactly our mindset. And it was our over-riding mindset throughout the second half.

Yes, we made the occasional sortie - one by Danns comes to mind - but the support which had been there in the first half was totally lacking. You, our club and others among our fans can stay in denial as much as you like but until we show the self-belief to keep the presure on opponents we will never win anything.

Examples abound of this failing over many seasons but Coventry was the most recent example. Once we got ahead our lone strikers looked embarrassed in their search for support. We got away with that and it all got glossed over.

But it was so symptomatic of our approach. This time it cost us two precious points, the penalty incident only disguising the fact that we conceded ground willfully and allowed Forest to come onto us instead of continuing to press forwards and give them things to worry about.

Fair play to the OP for writing the letter. Maybe if more fans actually registered their frustration officially rather than moaning about it in the pub or on here something might get done about the standard of refereeing outside of the Premiership.

It's all well and good peope saying it's swings and roundabouts and all that but I'd much rather have correct, transparent decisions made each time then be exposed to potentially match changing decisions by inept referees (whether for us or against us).

I disagree, By (initially) playing Gally the way we did, Sven was not trying to "protect" our lead. Gally replaced nugent and was playing as a striker.

In my opinion, we SHOULD have been trying to protect it... we were 2-0 up, AWAY, at a huge competitors home ground, we had out played them but it was inevitable that they would lift and pile on the pressure, virtually no team in the world (excluding Barca, Man U and their ilk) have the quality of player capable of maintaining an attacking, overpowering game for 90+ minutes away from home.

The home club steps up, as a manager you would recognise that when 2 down at home with 25 mins to go... you throw on another striker or two to increase the pressure. As the away side.. what do you do? leave the back exposed and hope that you can get another goal?..or pull a player back, strengthen your defence and try to hold on?

Its not about self belief, its about ability... the championship is one of the most competitive leagues in the world and our players are not streets ahead of the opposition, we cant just expect City to be the Barca of the league.

It was yesterday when I said to someone I work with 'match report by the ref would make an interesting read'. Then I though, hang on, I have never seen a match report by a ref report. Surely they should be made available for the general public.

Unfortunately, there isn't much transparency in football. For example, most transfer fees are undisclosed.

If your going to shut up shop do it properly, lack of temprement and nerve cost us the game on Saturday as much as the ref. And given the amount of money we have spent we really should be the Barcelona of the league. However it is still early days and hopefully we can get back on track, a point at the City Ground when all is said and done is not really a bad result.

In terms of OP, write all the letters you want but I don't believe god works for the F.A so therefore getting them to obliterate human error in ref's might be a bit hard. But good luck with that.
