Clive Redman Posted 26 August 2011 Posted 26 August 2011 "I have some great memories of games against Southampton, despite one specific game not standing out. For me, whenever I think of the games against Southampton, I remember playing against Matt Le Tissier, who was simply brilliant. He was a cult hero down there and The Dell was a difficult place to go. It was a tight ground and they were very difficult to beat there. Le Tissier scored a few goals against us and they were always 30-yarders, he was a terrific player. "Should City get the win on Saturday, it will do wonders for the side’s confidence – and I think it will happen. Once the team shows a bit more steel if they go a goal down, then things will improve massively. "There are some fantastic players within our side and once everything slots into place, there is no doubt the team can reach its full potential. Richie Wellens is always a class act, but for me the player that has impressed me the most has been Gelson Fernandes. He caught my eye in the game against Coventry and looked brilliant against Nottingham Forest. "The same again this weekend from every player on the park – and we’ll be celebrating a win against Southampton." Clive Redman Posted 16 September 2011 Author Posted 16 September 2011 "Andy King was again on the bench and, for the life of me; I don’t know what has happened with him. "He makes great forward runs which trouble sides, and he’s always liable to score goals. "Obviously, the manager has his reasons for not starting him and I know that the likes of Gelson Fernandes have been brought in to accompany Wellens, but I would have thought that Andy King could fit perfectly into what is a class midfield." Clive Redman Posted 23 September 2011 Author Posted 23 September 2011 "I personally believe that it’s always better to continually play a side which is winning games. "I understand and appreciate that different managers have different ways of doing things and I suppose in our day, you would play every game if you could. "Even from a Wednesday to a Sunday, you can recover nicely and I feel that it can get you into a rhythm." absolutelegend Posted 23 September 2011 Posted 23 September 2011 Simple answer - Yes! we fiddled with the team so much as the start of the season. things have picked up since we've had a bit more of a settled team. same team against cardiff as started against brighton please sven
Clive Redman Posted 7 October 2011 Author Posted 7 October 2011 "A win of that fashion had been coming – and you need to also take into account how Derby County have started the campaign. "We have played a lot of the top teams and Derby County have played a lot of teams that are currently at the bottom. "They haven’t come up against any of the top sides. I know that all the games in this division are tough, but in Brighton, Derby and Southampton we have knocked teams off their pedestal and it emphasises the importance of the wins against them." Corky Posted 7 October 2011 Posted 7 October 2011 Derby were up there on merit, it's not their fault they haven't played a "top" side yet. We had quite a gentle start really and didn't make the most of it, they did.
Clive Redman Posted 14 October 2011 Author Posted 14 October 2011 "Part of me would like to see the same team play that thrashed Derby, but how can you leave a player of Beckford’s ability out of the team? "At the same time, the performance against Derby was a complete performance – it’s a wonderful problem to have." Jace Posted 14 October 2011 Posted 14 October 2011 Beckford hasn’t been training for the last 2 weeks so I think its justified to put him on the bench for Birmingham and keep the team the same and then take it from there
Clive Redman Posted 21 October 2011 Author Posted 21 October 2011 "As soon as the Birmingham game had passed, I highlighted the importance of getting back-to-back wins against Watford on Wednesday and Millwall on Saturday. "We’re half-way there now. Watford were very poor and offered very little in the game, but the job was done by half time. "In truth, we could have been four to the good come the break, but I felt that the performance was good enough. It wasn’t a complete performance, but it was enough to put us two points off second." Clive Redman Posted 28 October 2011 Author Posted 28 October 2011 "There is no doubt that he would get City out of this division. I honestly believe he could achieve that. Walkers Pallet Chauffeur Posted 28 October 2011 Posted 28 October 2011 Obvious. He played for him. Still remember him scoring at Wembley against Derby.
Rich Fox Posted 28 October 2011 Posted 28 October 2011 Obvious. He played for him. Still remember him scoring at Wembley against Derby. Oneill was not manager when Walsh scored against Derby at wembley.
Clive Redman Posted 4 November 2011 Author Posted 4 November 2011 This weekend, City take on Leeds on Sunday afternoon. "They will be looking to bounce back from a 5-0 defeat at the hands of Blackpool – but I have seen signs of cracks in Leeds United this season. "They don’t look the side they were last season and it may be a good time to face them, although I think we will see a very defensive side facing City." Lash23 Posted 25 November 2011 Posted 25 November 2011 "It was interesting to read Paul Gallagher’s quote, where he said that it’s ‘time to be a team’. "With Nigel Pearson returning, Gallagher is now working with the manager that signed him for Leicester City and I am sure that he is a player that the manager favours, but that comment does imply that there hasn’t been the togetherness that being a team requires. Getting players to work together as a team is one of the things that Nigel is very good at." Clive Redman Posted 2 December 2011 Author Posted 2 December 2011 "Kasper Schmeichel has been an incredible signing for Leicester City – and this is not the first time that I have mentioned him in my blog. I believe that he has saved us eight points already this season. "He was magnificent by all accounts at Portsmouth and he pulled off some brilliant saves the following Tuesday against Blackpool. "His save from Taylor-Fletcher was world-class and I am certain that few keepers in the world could have got to that. It was one of the best saves I have seen." Lash23 Posted 9 December 2011 Posted 9 December 2011 "I recall a few games between City and Peterborough, including the one game at Filbert Street where no Peterborough fans were able to attend because the Carling Stand was being built! "It’s never an easy game and it is something of a local derby, with Peterborough not being too far away – and Peterborough always want to beat Leicester because we are a bigger club that they are, so it’s always an entertaining game. Peterborough have done well since returning to the Championship and have started the season well, however nothing can take away from the number of goals that they have conceded. "That is something that we should be able to exploit with the level of firepower that we have in the team." Clive Redman Posted 16 December 2011 Author Posted 16 December 2011 Taken from his latest blog... "Sean St. Ledger has again come in for Matt Mills and I have been impressed. I also felt that he did a good job during his last spell in the team. I know what St. Ledger can do through his time at my hometown club Preston and he’s an international for a reason. He’s starting to progress and show what he is capable of. "City head to Doncaster this weekend – and it’s been quite a turnaround up there this season. We can’t underestimate Donny, despite them being rooted in the relegation zone at the moment. They have had a lot of results go against them this year, but they have also beaten the likes of Peterborough United at London Road, Ipswich Town at Portman Road and Southampton at the Keepmoat Stadium. There is no doubt in my mind that this could prove to be a banana skin. They have signed some strong players, such as El-Hadji Diouf and Pascal Chimbonda, whilst Billy Sharp is a proven goal-scorer at this level, so City need to be at their best and I am sure that Nigel Pearson wont underestimate this game. He will have studied Doncaster carefully." For more see... http://www.soarmagazine.co.uk/2011/12/16/steve-walsh-blog-city-cant-underestimate-donny/
Tielemans63 Posted 16 December 2011 Posted 16 December 2011 As insightful as ever from Walshy. It's a good job we have him to state the bleedin' obvious.
Clive Redman Posted 23 December 2011 Author Posted 23 December 2011 From his latest blog... "I maintain my belief that Nigel will at least get City into the play-offs, but closer to home, we need to put back-to-back wins together and he’s the man to help City do that. We must remember that it’s still only been just over a month since he returned, despite the number of games that have been played in that time. "There’s no doubt that three games in the space of eight days is a tough ask for players, but I used to love games around Christmas time because they were so frequent and training was lighter than usual – and as a player, that’s what you want to be doing – playing games. "City have tough games coming up, as Ipswich Town have started to find their form following a tough time of it in the league. Portsmouth have a small squad, but one packed with Premier League quality and Crystal Palace haven’t made it through to the semi-finals of the Carling Cup by chance. But if City can get seven points out of these three games, it will be key in the way that the season pans out. The consistency that has been lacking this season can be gained in these games and confidence can soar."
