Guest Posted 14 September 2011 Posted 14 September 2011 Can anyone give a thought out logical reason as to why Sven extended his contract last season? It's called a squad
davieG Posted 14 September 2011 Posted 14 September 2011 As I understand it his previous contract included a 1 year extension option that we committed to if either side wanted it, Oakley did therefore he got it so the blame if any lies with Hoos/Mandaric. I believe this is also the case with Howard. I've no proof of this just something I read.
Jimmy Posted 14 September 2011 Posted 14 September 2011 sometimes they get activated after a certain amount of games as well
Number 6 Posted 14 September 2011 Posted 14 September 2011 Wasn't the extension offered before we brought in numerous mid-fielders? Worth having incase the transfer window went tits up.

Clough is keen to take Oakley on loan from the Foxes and hopes to agree a deal before the weekend. Oakley, who played for the Rams from 2006-2008, has been pushed out by City’s gaggle of summer signings and Clough is closing in on handing the far-travelled 34-year-old a return ticket. Back to play for the Dierby

bettso Posted 14 September 2011 Posted 14 September 2011 A great career spanning 15 years including many at the highest level. Good solid professional who'd be a great influence to have on some of the younger members of the squad. In the absence of a first team coach, hisexperience is neccessary at the moment and doesnt have to be felt on the pitch.

Back to play for the Dierby Brilliant! so... 16/8/11.... Maynot scores against us! 17/9/11.. Can't Make Sense scores against us 01/1/11... Phil Oakey scores against us!

Phil Oakey scores against us! Surely their would be a clause in his loan contract saying he cannot play against us I would have thought.

Guest MattP Posted 14 September 2011 Posted 14 September 2011 It's called a squad Really I wasn't aware of that. How many centre midfielders do you see as acceptable for a championship squad? How many games you think Oakley will play in this squad this season to validate the half a million pounds he will earn for the season?
21st Century Fox Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 I think a loan deal would include a clause meaning he couldnt play against us, his parent club. I assume this is the same with Waghorn. Could be wrong. Any Loanee isn't allowed to play against there parent club because of a conflict of interest. Although they can in the cup I believe.
Dan Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 Any Loanee isn't allowed to play against there parent club because of a conflict of interest. Although they can in the cup I believe. Not true, and it's unlogical. Blackpool v Plymouth a few years ago when Blackpool went up, they had centre half Marcel Seip on loan from Plymouth, and they let him play against them. And he scored. A centre half.
Dan Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 Oh and on the OP, meh, who knows if that's true. I mean ultimately you can't really blame him, the shit he gets from our fans (although I don't rate him, he's certainly what we're not after if we're going for top 2) when he does play, to avoid that shit and still pick up £8k a week? No-brainer, it's a farce of a scenario but has Sven really allowed this? Christ. I agree with what people are saying - £8k a week for our 7th choice central midfielder, fvcking abysmal. We may have rich owners but they became rich by making good decisions, they didn't become a bit rich then waste money, so why do we waste money unnecessarily? I can see him going back to Derby to be honest, whether it be on loan or in January.
Happy Fox Posted 15 September 2011 Posted 15 September 2011 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/14929719.stm?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter Derby County are poised to re-sign their former skipper Matt Oakley on loan from Championship rivals Leicester City, BBC Radio Derby understands. An injury to James Bailey has left boss Nigel Clough lacking midfield cover and he sees Oakley as an ideal replacement. Oakley, 34, signed a new deal in March which keeps him at the Foxes until June 2012, but he has only played in the Carling Cup this season. Derby hope Oakley can be signed in time to face Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Clough teed up a £4,000-a-week loan deal for the Leicester midfielder, only for Rams chiefs to torpedo the idea. Even ex-County skipper Oakley’s attempt to sweeten the deal by waiving his appearance bonus failed to cut any ice with the bean-counters. Clough’s men have had a bright start to the campaign, winning five games, but he is desperate to build on that success.
davieG Posted 20 September 2011 Posted 20 September 2011 Sven on Cardiff Cup game “Matt Oakley is out with a back problem, but Steve Howard might start and on-loan Michael Johnson will start for sure. He has looked good in training and played a reserve game last Tuesday and looked very good. We hope he will play the full 90 minutes.Read More http://www.walesonline.co.uk/footballnation/cardiff-city-fc/2011/09/20/sven-goran-eriksson-warns-cardiff-city-will-not-live-with-leicester-city-91466-29451946/?#ixzz1YTdQpe8D
