How the hell can you say it's "the biggest derby in the region" when we're not involved?

I saw last night's programme. The overkill was abscene. Even when we and Derby were in the Premier League and hosting games against Man Utd and Chelsea, the beeb never gave us that amount of coverage.

But hey, budgets are tight. I guess they can't afford to travel too often to do features from the biggest city in their region.

I think you're ultra. critical there. We get plenty of coverage most of the time.

What absolute dogs bollocks those who say EMT is biased spout.

Last night was understandable. Seven minutes on the biggest derby in the East Midlands. If we were involved in that type of game and we got less than seven minutes then you'd be crying as well.

We get plenty of coverage from EMT. Do remember I am the sad bastard on FT who keeps an archive of news coverage when I can, so I can say over the last four years that we've had more than our fair share.

Some days we get the lionshare, some days Forest do, and somedays Derby do. Heck, even Notts County get some decent coverage when they need it.

We dominated pre-season, they sent someone to Sweden and to Thailand last year for god sake, how much committment to us do you want them to have?

Blimey some fans will moan about anything, really.

And no, Notts rugby do not get more coverage than us, whoever said that, you're officially talking out of your a-hole now.

Are you Colin in disguise??

Nah seriously they do tend be more biased to Forest but hey they are based there..... that and I swear the big nosed ginger bird was banging Davies.

Did a little research and came up with these figures:

Population of Leicester - 330,574

Population of Nottingham - 249,584 (600,000ish if surrounding areas are included)

Population of Derby - 229,407

Now, consider that Nottingham football fans will almost exclusively support either Forest or County, whereas Derby and ourselves only really have one major club (unless you count Burton and the Tigers, which i'm sure don't really affect their respective fanbases.)

Consider also that a lot of the fans in Nottingham's surrounding areas are likely to support rival clubs - more likely, perhaps, than those in the outskirts of Leicester and Derby (in my experience at least) -

The bottom line is that, in theory, Forest has the smallest fanbase of the 3 East Midlands championship clubs. However, the combined fanbase of Forest and County is significantly bigger than either Derby or Leicester's.

What does this mean for EMT? Simply put, roughly half of all Football coverage should in theory be for Nottingham's clubs - but if we're working by supporting numbers order, it should go Leicester > Derby > Forest > County.

Final thought; if i was forced to live in Forest, i'd go with County every day. Just don't seem hatable in the way Forest are. Is it just me?

Nope.

Meadow Lane's a decent ground these days, without the arrogance, bigotry or menace we see on the south side of the Trent.

After seeing the highlights of Forest v Derby (hilarious!!!!!!!) I will watch with interest how EMT will report on how the mighty forest were beaten by a better 10 man Derby side!

After the sh1t coverage we got on friday, surely we must expect 7 minutes on a heroic Derby win & 1 minute on how we toppled the league leaders ha ha ha ha absolutely delighted with the outcome of this weekends east midlands football haha :D:thumbup:

Well they described Derby's win over Forest as, amongst other things, a "shock" and "remarkable."

Even with 10 men, if the other team don't turn up that's hardly the case.

I smell bias... I wonder what Rams fans think about this? Anybody know any?

And that is really what you have to go on, considering County and Forest aren't reported as a City, but as 2 seperate clubs.

So I don't think they have any excuse for being biased to Forest - then again as I said I don't think they are in general.

I do wonder what the criteria is for a 'big derby' btw, it may well be the most famous rivalry in the East Midlands but as you've pointed out, our fanbase is bigger than both of theirs, and frankly our support in general is much better. I understand what they mean but it doesn't really wash with me that the biggest derby in a certain area isn't between the 2 biggest clubs/fanbases in that area.

Few over-reactions on here.

Firstly, I think one of the reasons is quite simply because we are all more likely to forget the times we get good coverage and remember when we don't.

Secondly, our match yesterday was important yes but had little incident really.

Thirdly and most important imo is that the Forest/Derby game is the biggest in the region. You can argue that we have a bigger fanbase if you like, but attendances are all pretty similar and our rivalries with Forest and Derby aren't as fierce. Not to mention that their game yesterday was actually full of incident and much more worth showing.

Anyone would think that Leicester City is some fourth rate Football club the way they have just reported.

We have just had Forest on for a good

Leicester City tonight were worthy of 30 seconds when we are welcolming top of the table Brighton. Is the lanky tosser Colin? He said "You could be forgiven for forgeting about Leicester City's fixture this weekend with the Forest, Derby excitement, but..." I appreciate that a derby game is a fixture which will be looked forward too more than ours this weekend, but the whole sports section was a disgrace IMO! I am a huge fan of any team playing against Tigers  , but they only got a sentance, not even any video & they are the most supported Rugby club in the country playing the 2nd most popular sport!

The BBC local sports reporting on BBC1 has always had a Forest bias, makes sence seeing as the BBC east midlands is based in Nottingham & they are the biggest club in that city! But it's East Midlands News & Sport not Nottingham, & it's the BBC!!!!! A public broadcaster, not a Nottingham private enterprise. Once again, cleary illustrated tonight Leicester & Derby have got the thin edge of the wedge for coverage on Football & general sport. 7 minutes, & they are playing Derby tomorrow who seem only worthy of a minutes coverage. Surely it should be 50/50 coverage? Does the BBC budget not stretch to send a reporter to Derby to hear their fans views because we got 3 Forest fans, but no Derby. The reporters are completely biased towards Forest aswell & the language they use when describing any other East Midlands club other than Forest is condescending!

Grumply yours... <_<

........................................................................................

But Forest are the biggest club in the area by miles so its bound to be like that.
