Corky Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 On Sunday the final ball was seriously lacking, the amount of poor crosses and overhit through balls was disappointing.

Danns should get one of his Dreads cut off every time he goes to whip a ball in and manages to play it BEHIND every one of of strikers or breaking midfielders.

Guest Col city fan Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 I don't know what game you were watching, but we did have some chances. Some, but not enough - like I've already posted in the Post Match Thread. We just couldn't take those chances, because Myhill saved a few shots (shots I can count on one hand) or because our strikers got all mixed up before they even got a chance to shoot (I recall Beckford and Nugent getting inside the Birmingham box a few times towards the end of the game, when we were one man down). Crossing was also awful - but without a proper winger on the pitch, no real surprise. Our last three away games were rather successful, there was a little pattern developing - win at home, draw away from home. I mean, it should be obvious even to you that you cannot maintain that form completely over an entire season. There will be points dropped, both at home and away. This "change of attitude" on foreign soil has been rather successful so far, wouldn't you agree? Besides, I don't know what you're getting at because I won't defend Sven if we don't manage to win against Watford. Ultimately, it's the team responsible for making things happen on the pitch. They've been training under the same manager for months now - so if they make crass mistakes, it's them who make the mistakes. Having a go at the manager is just the easy way out when the team as a collective crumbles or when players falter individually (like Mills last Sunday). I, like many other so-called "Sven Lovers", have been rather realistic with my expectations (for example, standing firm on the fact that we won't walk this league, and I've said this all along). Twelve, thirteen games into the season has been one magical mark for me and many others and you'll get a really clear picture comes Christmas. If your high level of expectation isn't met, then that's not my problem. Any knee-jerk reactions from you and your lot is just that... knee-jerkism at its finest. To be MC did post in the aftermath that it was a poor performance.. Or words to that effect and I praised him for his honest assessment. Lose tonight (which I doubt) and there will be no excuses really
AyewJoking Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 Still a long, long way to go obviously but I think we have the look of a very comfortable mid table team
Criggers Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 I've just been looking at the table and apart from Southampton who have got themselves a tidy lead going after their win last night I don't see what we're panicking about. It does however hinge on these two home games being won but.... If we beat Watford tonight we will go joint 7th on 19 points. If we beat Millwall that would put us on 22 (obviously!). Now even if west ham also won on Saturday, if we were to beat ten at their place we would go above them. Granted other teams are in this league but all I'm trying to point out is that in the next 3 games we could e looking at things very differently! There is plenty of time left to make this season a success but we need to get runs going. Unbeaten runs are nice but we need to be stringing a few wins together! Look at Brighton. Four games ago they were top, they're now! They could soon be back up there with 2 or 3 wins... We just need that ruthlessness and cutting edge. We seem almost like too nice a club with Sven and the happy Top Edit: sorry if I'm treading old ground but haven't got time to read the whole thread
Trav Le Bleu Posted 19 October 2011 Posted 19 October 2011 Quarter of the season gone and we're not doign bad, but we're not doing great. But hey, Middlesboro, unbeaten all season, lost last night. To whom? Forest. Win tonight and we're two points off of an automatic promotion spot, but may still be as low as 10th. It's going to be a tough league this year!
