Quarter of the season gone

If im being honest i expected a lot more pre season. Would be interested to know what everyone thinks on the way we play football. I think we have the right intentions (passing it around) but it all seems a bit static too me. Theres no fluency in our play. I think if michael johnson gets a run in the team it may make a difference. Once beckford gets his first goal then we will start seeing the real beckford i think. Got a feeling he will score on wednesday. About the signings we made in the summer, i have most been impressed with lee peltier. Hes solid and consistent. Also kasper is looking top quality. Without him i think we would be near the relegation places at the moment. Ive been disappointed in pantsil - everytime he gets the ball i expect him to give it away. I also expected a bit more from konchesky and danns. Nugent has been great. I also think sven has got his tactic of going to away games looking for a point wrong. Its actually put me off going to away games a bit. Sven seems to think we will win every home game, thats not going to happen. So if we continue to only look for a point away from home then automatic promotion will not happen. Teams that finish 1st or 2nd look to win every game - home or away. Like norwich last season, i remember watching them at the walkers and looked like the home team! Sorry for going on a bit but thats my assessment so far.

Kasper, Peltier and Nugent have been our best signings for me.

We're good enough at home, and we've stopped conceding a bucket full of goals, but now we need to start scoring a few. A couple of away wins in our next three games would do us the world of good. I'm not convinced by us away though, we never look like really beating a team, we only got a chance or two and usually miss it.

Paintstil was quality when he came on yesterday I think, though I do agree for the most part. I'v said far too often that people seem far too happy with average results yet seem to still expect auto!

if we won yesterday we would have been 4th......I think that shows that our start has been alright really. The only thing annoying me is knowing what we are capable of and then seeing us play so poorly. The only fear I have is that we arent taking our chances to catch up with the teams above us and we need to do that before the gap gets any bigger

Isn't that down to the management, negativity in our performances away from home and inconsistency . One week looking like world beaters the next playing poorly will really cost us big time, and that is why I don't believe we will fulfill our potential under the current management, I would love to be proven wrong.

The OS thinks it's been impressive.

City supporters will have the chance to meet some of the Foxes' newest stars TODAY at an exclusive signing session in the City Fanstore.

Captain Matt Mills will be joined by other new faces such as Neil Danns and Gelson Fernandes, plus familiar faces including Paul Gallagher and Richie Wellens, to meet some of the Blue Army between 12.30pm and 1.15pm.

After an impressive start to the npower Championship season, it will be a first chance for some members of the City squad to get up close and personal with the Club's supporters, who are expected to arrive en masse in the hunt for autographs and photographs.

Rather than thinking that there is a quarter of the season gone, I think that it's better to think that there is three-quarters of the season left. Our position right now in no way is definitive of how we will be placed come the last quarter of the season. Think of last season, for instance: If my memory serves me correctly, I think that around this point last season Coventry of all teams were in or around the play-off positions. Look where they ended up. Us Foxes, however, were just beginning to shake off the dire start under Sousa--so pretty near to the bottom of the table--and we ended up almost in the play-off positions. We still have a long way to go, and I think yesterday's game is just a blip. Hopefully we will be a team that will kick on from here, maintaining our fairly solid defensive performance over the last few matches, whilst upping our game going forward in terms of both service and finishing.

Come on you Foxes! :scarf::trumpet:

I don't know if anyone has read this but it is quite interesting, from a neutral view

One of the problems in a Leicester type situation is whether players have their hunger sapped by the rewards on the table. If you're already on Premier League money and know you'll be replaced if promoted then where's the incentive? I expect them to make the play-offs but come up short as Derby and Wolves did when they were the rich kids of the division in the 1990s.

In the Championship, anything less than full tilt can equal dropped points and I wonder if Sven's necessarily the right man to drill those levels of intensity into players.

My view now is pretty much what it was after the first three or four games, it has not really changed. It goes something like this;

We have brought in six players with decent premier league experience and three of the better players in the championship last season. The result is that we have a strong squad with depth in most areas. A lack of a wide man or two being our only weakness, personel wise.

It is my belief that these players, performing at anything close to their best, would give us a team capable of challenging for automatic promotion.

That they are not playing consistently well suggests to me that our team selection, set up and tactics is at fault. Too many of our better players are below par for it to be a question of individual form.

On those occasions that we have played well, it has been individual players who have stepped up and given us the performance, our style of play has hardly changed from day one. For me the change from 4-3-3/4-5-1 to the 'diamond' has been largely cosmetic, neither has been particularly successful, it is I think an 'attitude' problem as much as anything.

Given our resources, the first quarter of the season has been a big dissapointment to me, 12th is simply not good enough all things considered.

You could apply that to most teams, if a team is going to maintain it's place in the Premier League all but the very best up and coming players will be replaced when their contracts finish. You could equally argue that those with Premier League experience are more likely to be kept on longer as, at the very least squad members.

Fair enough but is it an attitude thing among the players? or is the management that needs asking questions as to why we are not performing to the level required for automatic promotion given the players we have?

With all the money invested by the Thai's, not much has changed

Last season we finished 10th on 67 points.

The style of football that we are playing is easy on the eye, but very innefective. This is because we have an abundence of very good Championship central midfielders, & no decent natural wide midfielders, so we have ended up with a Diamond formation. The only player who is in our squad who breaks the trend of our midfield is Lloyd Dyer & he can be very good, but also very inconsitent, and does not posess the footballing quality a player such as Wellens posseses.

This failure by the football club to address the weakness in our midfield has lead to LCFC being very predictable, even with all the cash shelled out on transfer fees and wages. We have no width apart from the full backs, which is fine if you are playing a poor side who you can dominate and push back, however not if the other team is well organised and compitent at defending.

Against Birmingham we dominated the first half, but how many clear cut chances did we create, especially from open play? None. Our most dangerous option was a set peice with either Mills or Bamba heading at goal or setting up an oppertunity in the air. You could say we had an off day, but we didn't! We should have converted all that play into at least a 2 goal lead at half time, if we had the players with the ability to create a chance with that posession!

Id rather think that against Derby we had a good day! We deservedly got our rerwards with 2 goals and they may aswell just have given us the 2 at the end they were so crap.

Overall, we are a good side for the division, if Sven can see that all we do is pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass (Hoof / go nowhere / start again) Pass ...

he may get in a player who is a natural wide player or even a winger with pace who can beat a man & think about crossing the ball in the box, we could be very dangerous :)

I predicted we'd finish around 10th so its pretty much what I expected. I think we'll yoyo around the playoff area. I just couldn't see where the top players were? People seemed to go so OTT over players like Mills, where most wouldn't have rated them that highly before, maybe it was the money spent that increased expectation but you look at out starting 11 its not better than a lot of others.

Thats what the championshiop is like, vast majority of teams are pretty even and anyone can beat anyone else.

I hope we improve and maybe get into the playoffs but my views haven't changed I think we'll finish around 8-10th.

Think i expected to much this season dont get me wrong i never thought we would storm the league but we should be doing better. Notsure of the stats but i dont think were much better off than last season! At work today all i get is you've spent 10m and you pay to go watch that you wont be getting out of the league this season.

For me there's been a few steps in the right direction, but we need many more steps & quickly. There's many managers around who'd get up automatically with that level of spending, whether Sven is one of them or not remains to be seen, tbh I feel as indifferent now as I have since he joined us.

I still dont get why the man has no plan b, something I was heavily criticised for saying after he lost 4 away games on the trot last December. Its obvious to everyone that the only 2 players in the squad (whilst far from the best) capable of changing the way we play is Dyer & Howard & when they're not on the bench we have too many players of duplicated skill-sets as indeed does much of the squad he's assembled anyway.

This strikes me as naive, at best & damn right stupid at worst. How can anyone expect the same thing to work against all the different teams in the huge variety of circumstances that we'll face them all in.

Still, Sven is here so he's the guy I'll support to get it right until we're in the top2 or it's mathematically impossible that we can get there.

I think we'll be in the play-offs even though that's always a nail-biter and no guarentee we'll go up. The thing about us which I seemed to have noticed is yes we do play good passing football...but we are far too narrow when we're going forward.

I love it when we haven't got ball as our number of clean sheets show but we just seem to be a little clueless when going forward...the diamond is sort-of working but Nugent and Vassell are going into the channels far too much. I'd rather see two of the diamond bombing to the byline and putting a cross in with our front two in the box!!!

I'm not saying we desperatley need a winger, but maybe Sven's got to look at the midfielders forward running? Its like King is the only one who wants to get forward?

Peltier and Kasper have been the main stand-out signings for me but I wouldn't say any signing this season has been a major flop. I think Konchesky could be doing a lot more but he's really not as good as what people make him. The guy can't use his right foot and he just seems a little shakey every time he plays. Hopefully he can prove me wrong.

I was buzzing at our performance against Derby but after yesterday it looked like we took one step forward and two back? Maybe we just seem to slow our game down away from home and settle for a goal on the break. Not pretty and not working at the moment!

Kilworth.....

It is not specifically that we need wingers, what we need is creative players in attacting roles in midfield. Whether they play wide or through the middle is not really important, we need players who can break down decent defences.

Playing the diamond, this role falls to the player at the point, at this moment that is King. Now I rate king very highly but the one thing he is not is a creative, playmaker type so our midfield is devoid of creativity at the one point it most needs it.

The obvious candidate for that role is Gallagher, he makes things happen around the edges of the 18 yard box better than anyone else we have. Some say that he does not work hard enough but in a 4 man midfield is that really an issue......:dunno:

If Gallagher does not play then who else? Danns orchestrated the attacking play at Palace, could he do the same for us? Showed little sign of it so far.

Wellens has the passing skills but is he disciplined enough to play the forward role and will he be quick and sharp enough to pick his passes under the kind of pressure he will be under in forward positions?

We need some tactical invention but I am not sure where it is coming from....:dunno:

after a quarter of the season we are rock bottom of the discipline league . what has that got to do with anything some might say? i was deluded into thinking my team would football / pass teams to death .lets be honest , not so eh ? being bottom means we kick and scrap a bit more than other teams , commiting fouls to stop teams also giving fouls away in frustration etc etc . after a quarter of the season i can say that things just are not right .

Our performances have been up and down. Some performances were good (Derby, Southampton), some poor (Reading, Bristol City), some average (Brighton), and some were we have had to grind something out of the game (Coventry). Regarding new signings, I have been impressed with Lee Peltier, Kasper and Dave Nugent in particular. Danns looks good sometimes, but for me, he is better out wide left - he looked dangerous against Nottingham Forest.

There are many teams in the division that are going to be challenging for promotion/play offs, so were right in the middle at the minute. I know I haven't seen all the teams play, but it doesn't look like there is a front runner at the minute. The division is very tight and hard.

I just don't agree with Sven's selections and tactics sometimes. That is all I will have to say that is negative.

Yeah Gally, Wellens or Danns could, but I can't see Sven doing it :/

Gally for me has technical ability but is too lightweight to be a favourite of mine, Wellens ability to pass and retain posession make him an essential LCFC player, but at the bottom of any diamond if we play with a diamond. Danns has not impressed me to think he is the difference, but it's still early. King seems to pop up every now and then with a goal, but what does he actually do? He seems to be the new Gareth Williams, undoubted ability, but he is the invisible man.

Id love to see 1 or 2 players who took on their man like Aaron Lennon does. Now I'm not stupid enough to suggest that we are going to sign Lennon before I get shot at lol, but a player with a different idea than to pass the opposition asleep. A decent cross would be a nice change of pace! It just seems that all of our players have only 2 thoughts when in posession, pass or hoof. I do like hitting the channels early, I do like our strikers determination and willingness to close down defeneders, there are many positives to our play! Attacking wise we are predictable in posession, we need a Izzett type to unlock a defense in the way we are playing at present & I do not see that we have have him in the squad. I'd love to see width and crosses or pace, as I said, then we would be dangerous :)
