Tielemans63 Posted 20 October 2011 Posted 20 October 2011 Thought he'd get the job. He's no Mourinho but he has done a better job with the U-21's than many give him credit for.
accessory Posted 21 October 2011 Posted 21 October 2011 Not convinced by this. Will be interested to see how successful Pearce is in persuading clubs to release players from pre-season.
Guest MattP Posted 21 October 2011 Posted 21 October 2011 I won't even support this side anyway, it's a bit of a farce. A load of pampered professional millionaires running around trying to get a gold medal? It couldnt actually get anymore opposite to what the Olympics should be about.
accessory Posted 21 October 2011 Posted 21 October 2011 Messi and Tevez did OK for the Argies though.. Beckham is nailed on to be captain. Apart from him (and maybe Giggs as another overage player) the squad will probably be the England under-21 side, with Bale, Ramsey and a couple of token Scots thrown in.
Mack Posted 21 October 2011 Posted 21 October 2011 I was mildly interested in this project until they put him in charge. Oh dear.
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 21 October 2011 Posted 21 October 2011 When I first saw the headline I thought they were going to be a joint management team! That would have been interesting and pretty pioneering. But I'm totally underwhelmed that it's Pearce. Not sure why the FA are pinning all of their hopes of him being England manager one day when he's shown nothing other than his attitude when playing to suggest that he warrants it. Let's not forget this is a man who put David James up front and made a big deal about his daughter's teddy being responsible for his team's run of form. Thought he'd get the job. He's no Mourinho but he has done a better job with the U-21's than many give him credit for. Has he really?! England uner 21's should qualify for pretty much every major youth tournament because of the depth of quality at our disposal, and the strength of the lower tiers in the English game in which many of these players learn their trade. Other countries don't have the academies, the coaching or the lower leagues in which youngsters can be blooded of the quality of those which exist in England. Anyone who watched the thoroughly underwhelming display by a Pearce-led England team in the under 21 tournament the other summer would have to question how a man who had so much time, and so much talent to work with, could get it so shockingly wrong.
Vacamion Posted 21 October 2011 Posted 21 October 2011 As a proud Englishman living in Scotland, I can tell you right now that most folk up here will not be getting behind Stuart and the boys. Sadly, quite the contrary...

Sadly, quite the contrary... I'm sure they'll all be happy enough watching Braveheart with joyous tears rolling down their cheeks instead

Are you referring to the 2009 championships when we made the final? (although we did get gubbed by Germany) Or 2007 when we lost on pens to the Dutch in the semi? That's not getting it shockingly wrong now is it? I'm no fan of Stuart Pearce but he hasn't been the disaster that some assume he has. His U21 record is not bad.
