Thought king made some terrific runs last night, and with Johnson showing his potential, I think we have found someone with the skill to help king rediscover his scoring form of last season, bloody hope so anyway!

I echo your sentiments regarding Johnson, he is a cut above. Starting to show some of his form before he got injured, I hope this continues for us. He is highly thought of at Manchester City!

Kingy did a stack of good work last night and could easily have gone home with two assists and a clever goal from the outside of his boot. DavieG's right when he remarked on our full-backs being recalled to base second-half but for all their involvement in the first half we were still desperate for wingers who could go by people at pace.

Times our passing left Konchelsky and Peltier in more acres than landed gentry but although they did work hard to support they weren't capable of attacking people decisively enough to really hurt their defence.

In the second half, their withdrawn role all but obliterated worthwhile passing options for the central midfielders and how we suffered, particularly with the strikers losing their sharpness and there being no like-for-like replacements.

Johnson cogged in well no question. He showed the priceless ability fo find time on the ball and to get his head up to see the pictures but while in active mode City were irrepressible in most departments.

Perhaps it's about money. Perhaps the Thais need to look at Sven's contract to check if he's just down for 45 minutes per game instead of the full 90, Derby having presumably been a special occasion! lol.

At the moment, I have more faith in Johnson than I have in King.

The former has impressed me with his passing ability and vision, the latter disappointed with another rather anonymous performance (bar that near-goal towards the end).

Drop King and bring in Fernandes or Danns, I say.

And what about his two short through balls that set up Nugent (shot well saved) and someone else (shot wide). Then his block of the fierce on-target shot from just outside the right side of the box and at least one decent headed clearance...King covered almost the whole pitch last night and was invlved in so much either to a greater or lesser extent.

Times he provided the out ball when someone got in trouble or made little runs to create a bit of space in a crowded situation. He wasn't always accurate, some promising things died a premature death, but I'd say his stats would have looked fine. And his goal attempt would have been a beauty had it gone in. I still thought the keeper pushed it wide but the referee would have none of it and I wasn't in the best position to see.

As for Johnson, skilled though he is I can't ever imagine him clocking up the mnutes on a football field that King does, or covering the distances.

Am I the only one who hasn't been impressed by Danns yet this season? I loved the lad at Colchester and Palace and always wanted him here but so far he's disappointed in almost every game he's played that i've seen. He was our weak link in the first 30 minutes against Derby and made up for it with his run and shot for Vassell's goal but I think he needs to improve to dislodge King or Johnson that play in his role.

Not the only one Ric and I say that because, like you, I had always wanted him here. Really like him as a player and a bloke. Just hope he discovers his true form with us.

I sit behind the goal in the kop and it was always going wide. The keeper didn't touch it.

Think we should have a midfield of Johnson, Fernandes then King and Danns more advanced on. Still think we need a winger though, especially when teams just clog up the midfield against us.
