Guest Col city fan Posted 24 October 2011 Posted 24 October 2011 I'm not bigging him up I'm trying to introduce a degree of reality into people's impatience and knee-jerk reactions. I've just stated facts or reported on what appears to be the case judging by previous reports. My view on Sven is he's got a lot to improve on, I'm not too happy with the team or the make up of it. e.g Wingers, but do we know if he tried to get some in but couldn't get the quality he needed - no we don't people just assume what they want to justify their opinions. I think we lack many things but that doesn't mean they've not been seen by Sven and attempted to put right. As for the Sven out brigade I just don't see that it's justified at this time based on our current league status and I also don't feel it would solve the problems neither do I see a suitable replacement out there who is free to come here. Not that I have to justify anything I've said because it's mostly fact. I appreciate it all you've said except the usual excuse of people making 'knee-jerk' reactions.. Sven has been in the job for one year and, on Saturday against Millwall, we put in possibly the worst performance since Sousa's 0-6 at Portsmouth. This was not a one-off..only two weeks before we had played terribly at Birmingham, a game that was televised and which put the club across in a terrible light to Joe Public who may have tuned-in On the back of this, we have lost at home to two poor sides in Reading and Bristol City. I do admit, that we have had some good results too, and have beaten some of the top teams, for which I gave nothing but praise. The problem is twofold therefore, our inconsistency and our utterly boring style of play away from home. This isnt 'knee-jerk'..these are facts
Corky Posted 24 October 2011 Posted 24 October 2011 Yes he'll have his favourites but I'd guess they'll be all sorts of different reasons for that and that accusation has been thrown at every manager we've had during the 50 years I've been following them but predictable only crops up when we not doing so well. [/color] We had it with Pearson- people were fed up of Howard playing all the time and Oakley as well. Now it seems there's a determination from the fans to get Howard back in the fold. Does Sven have his favourites? Probably. But he's shown he's not afraid to drop Vassell, Wellens, King this season, players who are all alleged to be favourites.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 24 October 2011 Posted 24 October 2011 I don't have favourites, I'm equally indifferent to all of them

This isnt 'knee-jerk'..these are facts I didn't say you were knee-jerk but you can't deny there are plenty on here. I was merely pointing out that my so called 'bigging Sven up' was usually to add some balance to those topics. I believe this favouritism topic is not so much knee-jerk as clutching at straws and is irrelevant to our current predicamennt because as I said all managers are accused of it, it's pure speculation and even if it was true in the scheme of things it's impact is probably minimal. Favouritism, formations etc do not cause misplaced passes, reckless tackling, poor individual form, wrong decision making, knowing what your team mate might do in particular circumstances so you can make the correct pass plus the many other things which are causing our inconsistency on the pitch.
I am Rod Hull Posted 24 October 2011 Posted 24 October 2011 I have 4 different types of tea in my cupboard, Lady Grey, Earl Grey, PG tips and English breakfast.... Do i have a favourite ? Yes i do, Lady Grey, i bought it.... I didnt buy the PG tips so i dont like it.... Know what i mean ?
Guest shearfox Posted 24 October 2011 Posted 24 October 2011 was an article in one of the papers recently(sure linked to it on here in another thread) where one the england players said he did, said he would play players even if out of position just to accomadate them. One of the reasons Scholes retired from international football. He was always played out on the left to allow for Lampard and Gerrard to play in the middle.

Sven has his favourites of course every manager does

Cmon Dave of course it does... The bigger picture off the field plays a massive part on the field. I remember when I used to play.. If I'd been dropped one week and then got a chance the next week I would always try to up my game to stay in the team.. Sometimes this made me play better, sometimes I tried too hard and fooked it all up. Why do you reckon sport psychology has become such a massive business? The r/ships between players, the manager, the fans etc have a direct influence on whether a player 'feels right' and makes a good pass, or feels off and doesn't. This is why wellens can spray balls about one game, then give the ball away time and time again the next. If this wasn't the case, managers wouldn't be needed and players would play exactly the same way, with exactly the same level of ability every game. The mental side to sport is profound... And one of the crucial jobs of a good manager is to prepare his players, mentally and tactically for every game. Our players were definitely out of sorts against Millwall in every department. Were they sufficiently prepared, sufficiently rested, sufficiently managed? It would seem not...

I didn't say it didn't have an effect I suggested it wasn't a siginificant cause of our current status if it was we'd be terrible every game.
Burmesefox Posted 24 October 2011 Posted 24 October 2011 Andy King is obviously a favoutrite given the fact he has been awful since Jan and has still racked up 10 appearances this season.

Father Ted Posted 24 October 2011 Posted 24 October 2011 I will never have to answer an easier question YES!
