Frost Posted 13 November 2011 Posted 13 November 2011 Evening. Me and a few mates are considering going to Turkey. I'm assuming a few people on here have been to Turkey, and if so, where's the best place to go? It all depends on what we want to do obviously but a place to have a few beers etc would be good. I'd love to hear about how good a holiday it was for you lot, and what you'd recommend/not recommend to do. Cheers, Adam.
Webbo Posted 13 November 2011 Posted 13 November 2011 If it's a lads' holiday you're having then I'd guess you want Marmaris or maybe Bodrum, I've never been to those places so I couldn't comment. If you want to see a bit of History try Kusadassi or Altinkum. Wherever you go the beer and the food is really cheap quite good as well. PS take an old city shirt or flag to put in the bars, when was there last year they were full of Wolves and Sunderland shirts.
JoeyB Posted 14 November 2011 Posted 14 November 2011 Gumbet, turkey, can't beat it, had the best time ever in august!
Saxondale Posted 14 November 2011 Posted 14 November 2011 I've been Marmaris. It's good. It was more expensive than i thought. Even though the currency is Turkish Lira (YTL), they prices are bumped up to match European resorts. They accept Euros and $USD everywhere too. If you like the beach, beware that the sections of beach are all 'run' by whichever bar is in front of it and you can only really stay there if you buy drinks off them. Also, I went in mid July and it was insanely hot. I don't mind but a lot of people would find it unbearably hot at that time.
Fox92 Posted 14 November 2011 Posted 14 November 2011 I think Turkey have just had an earthquake. (edit- not just as in a few seconds, just as in maybe a month ago). So, be careful but enjoy.

We went to Marmaris about 10 years ago, and i'm sure it's changed but it was awesome! Lot's of good places to go out, and enough to do if you want a quieter day as well. The markets are a must, and there's some great day long boat trips about. you must have gone a while after I did, it was dirt cheap when we went. Most places were no more than 50p a pint, and I remember one place it was 20p a pint all day every day!

The quakes (there were several) were mostly in the east of the country, well away from the main tourist resorts.
AoWW Posted 15 November 2011 Posted 15 November 2011 Best served with roast potatoes, cranberry sauce, bread sauce and gravy. Seriously though, Olu Deniz if you fancy trying some paragliding. The nightlife, whilst adequate, is relatively low-key in comparison to the busier resorts though.

Guest Bilo Posted 15 November 2011 Posted 15 November 2011 Depends on what you want from a holiday really. For a lad's holiday, Bodrum is probably the way to go. Plenty of bars and clubs as well as enough to do during the day, great stuff. If you want a bit of history; Ephesus is always worth a look and for natural sights, make your merry way to Pamukkale.
Guest MattP Posted 16 November 2011 Posted 16 November 2011 Can't stand Turkey, awful, worst holiday I have had, smells worse than Greece. Go around the Spanish coast, Bavaria or southern Italy. You don't get the usual rampaging hords of morons this country produces and you might meet some good people.
acooling08 Posted 16 November 2011 Posted 16 November 2011 Went to Side (See-Day) near Antalya in August. Great weather, great hotel, great people, great history.
Frost Posted 16 November 2011 Author Posted 16 November 2011 Much appreciated ladies & gentleman. I'll have a look at all your suggestions on the Internet soon, many thanks.
