Wherethefoxhat? Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 Does anyone else think that we'd get a much larger crowd if kick off was 11 am ? I personally think it would put at least 5 thousand on the gate ...........and all in the pub by 1.15 !! The jobs a goodun !!
Yojoe36 Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 I'm not getting up at 9 on Boxing day. Fvck that.

Fox92 Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 I think it's alright at 3pm. It could be much worser, like if kick off was at 5:20pm or something.
Ashley Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 Move it to Christmas Eve. I actually think that would be a good idea. They used to do it back in the day as they say.
liamsm Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 I actually think that would be a good idea. They used to do it back in the day as they say. When was " the day " i've been going down the city for many a year and i can't remember playing christmas eve instead of boxing day, IMO it would reduce the crowd considerably
Ashley Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 When was " the day " i've been going down the city for many a year and i can't remember playing christmas eve instead of boxing day, IMO it would reduce the crowd considerably In the 50's and 60,s maybe even early 70's. I'm sure Thracian, DavieG or any other older generation could clear this up(no affence).
Corky Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 I actually think that would be a good idea. They used to do it back in the day as they say. With it being a Saturday this year it could work.
Larry_LCFC Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 Why would you want to move it christmas eve? Its tradition playing on boxing day. Nice way to finish christmas. Always has been, always will be.
Pegosteve Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 My first Boxing Day match was 1965 as a kid, can never remember Xmas Eve fixtures.
wellyfox Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 I actually think that would be a good idea. They used to do it back in the day as they say. Really when Xmas eve is a working day and always has been don't think many would have gone on xmas eve in the past. But if you can get some dates of a whole league fixture i.d bow to your better knowledge. Bank holiday fixture boxing day the only difference was back in the day local derbies where possible were played. You would not have got Borro v Sotton or pompey v burnley. And they should still sort the fixtures for boxing day so the shortest possible distances are traveled. You may find then every game is a sell out.
Fox92 Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 I still think that on boxing day, the closer games should be played. For example, Leicester v Coventry, Burnley v Blackpool, Forest v Derby and in other divisions Sunderland v Newcastle, Sheffield Wednesday v Sheffield United, Bury v Oldham etc... I just think with it being a tradition to play on boxing day, and with a chance of snow or worser weather, the local games would be better instead of like Ipswich travelling all the way to Leicester. Then there would be more away fans, probably a better atmosphere and all that etc

dobbylcfc Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 Didn't we play a game on christmas eve bout 5 or 6 seasons ago?
StanSP Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 Didn't we play a game on christmas eve bout 5 or 6 seasons ago? Nah 06/07 we played Cardiff on 23rd. Drew 0-0.
Guest MattP Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 Used to love the boxing day kick off's at 11.30. The ground was always full as well, no doubt it would put 4,000-5,000 on the attendance minimum if history is anything to go by.

There's a whole load of issues that make putting the fixture list together incredibly complicated of which journey times is but one issue. With Ipswich fairly isolated in East Anglia, them travelling to Leicester is probably as fair as could be arranged.

WellyFox did you read my posts above about being BACK IN THE DAY? or did you ignore that, get on your high horse and try and get one over on me? Proof it actually happened EVEN ON CHRISTMAS DAY. Look here. Plenty of goals have been scored in Christmas Day matches. Jimmy Greaves scored his first League hat-trick (he eventually scored 4) in Chelsea's 7-4 victory over Portsmouth at Stamford Bridge on Christmas Day 1957. Leicester's John Duncan scored a club record six goals in the 7-0 Second Division defeat of Port Vale at Filbert Street on December 25th 1924. On Christmas Day 1925 Bury beat Manchester City 6-5 in a Division 1 fixture. Now take a look below Saturday, 24 December 2011 Inverness CT v Aberdeen, 12:30 St Mirren v Rangers, 12:45 Hearts v Motherwell, 13:00 Celtic v Kilmarnock, 13:30 Dundee Utd v Hibernian, 13:30 Dunfermline v St Johnstone, 13:30 I rest my case.

It would be nice but thinking from a practical point of view it isnt great. Emergency services are already stretched and on skeleton staff around christmas and putting big local derbies like forest v derby would stretch the police beyond their capability.
SNF Posted 1 December 2011 Posted 1 December 2011 I remember in the early 1950's my Dad going to a match on Christmas Day at Filbert Street!!!
