The famous three Wellens fans are all on here again, wherethefoxhat, cc_star, and colcityfan, all together.

You know guys when you come on telling us all how good Wellens is you actually make it feel like there are a lot of you.

I thought you'd maybe learnt to think a bit more about what you posted

I was wrong...

Artur Askey is still with us unfortunately

Poor little Richie, much admired and blamed just find me better at our level and buy him,

Issue 1) I believe he is forced deeper as a result of the "imbalance in midfield " and them carriers the blame for the midfield not preforming as we would like them to.

Issue 2) for a long while his from drops when he plays more than once a week, if he plays 5 or 6 games in three weeks he can look very poor.

Issue 3) despite all coming and going no other player has succeeded in replacing him I'm the team.

I for one am glad he is still here,

Hi foxhat....... ;)

I was sure that if I rattled this particular cage long enough and hard enough I would get a response.....

By the way, it is not dishonest, more artistic licence...... :P

Right or wrong I don't see how all this helps our football club. Objective post-match criticism is one thing .... but the continual slagging off of an individual is counter-productive...and more especially when it doesn't add up.

I'm not his greatest fan and yes, Wellens has his limitations. But I've seen him be the only player on our team rolling his sleeves up, particularly at Burnley one especially tortuous night a while back.

And if Wellens can play his part in comprehensively beating Southampton at St Marys I can't see why he wouldn't play an important role in the rest of our season, whether first choice or not. I don't see us overloaded with talented alternatives in that department.

If he leaves, he leaves but I wouldn't see the sense in it with our current resources.

Seriously for a moment....

Sven attempted to play a diamond formation for a lot of our games earlier in the season, somehow Wellens managed to get the holding role at the base of the diamond........ :dunno:

Despite the fact that he, Wellens, was woeful in that role an international, ex premier league holding player was never given a chance in the role that he exelled in at Citeh.

I really do not know why those choices were made but I strongly believe they were pivotal to our inconsistent performances and the poor results that lead to Sven being sacked.

Sven is percieved as a coach that defers a lot to his senior players, is it that much of a stretch to believe that Wellens 'bullied' his way into that role?......... :dunno:

Entirely speculative I know, but I do wonder........ :yesyes:

Dave!! How many more times!

Think about what you are writing....

If Wellens BULLIED his way into Svens teams then do you really think that Sven was the right manager for the job?

Should any manager allow any player to bully their way into their plans?

Do you think that Pearson would allow this?

If Sven was such a pussy as you are making out then it's a fookin good job he's gone, don't you think?

Or are you a fan of player power?

Totally speculative and more than likely bollox but if there is any grain of truth in that then that was SVen's weakness to blame not Wellens' so called bullying.

Hi Col,

My point was not meant as any kind of a defence of Sven, in fact I am on record, in this very forum, for calling for our club to bring in a proper first team coach to bring some organisation and discipline to our matchday squads.

Sven does not appear to give his players much in the way of instruction or guidance, trusting that they are 'good enough' to work these things out for themselves, this played into Wellens hands allowing him to grab control of our midfield and indulge his fantasy of actually being Xavi (either one)....... lol

The evil Wellens ruined Sven! What drivel!

Where did I actually say that.......?

Sven is well known for not giving the team discipline or much in the way of tactical direction. In Sven's teams this generally comes from the players themselves. Wellens took advantage of this 'soft' approach to give himself the job that he wanted and fooked our season in the process.

Sven was a muppet to let him do it so was, quite rightly, sacked.

How do you know this? Maybe Wellens prefers playing further up the pitch, but Sven asked him to play deeper for the good of the team.

To be fair on his day he is a good player, you can't blame 1 player for the teams shite performances, thought forest and second half at Southampton he played well

I said in an earlier post that I was being speculative, I have absolutely no idea what goes on behind the scenes...... :dunno:

I base my views on what I see in the games, simple as that. Wellens took/was given a role in which he was complete useless whilst a class holding player, that Sven brought in and knows all about, was left with bit parts, often on the wing........

If you have a better explanation for what went on at that time I would love to hear it...... :dunno:

I see you are now backing down again. I think it far more likely that Wellens was given the role rather than took the role. At the time, we were playing the narrow diamond formation some of the time, and I don't think this was effective after one or two games. Instead of blaming Wellens for everything, why don't you blame Sven for crowding the middle and not playing/ buying any wingers.

Unless you have any evidence that Wellens was actually "given the role", your views are just as speculative as mine....... :dunno:

In either case why was he allowed to continue to play the deep anchorman role when he was so poor at it, whether we played a diamond or 4-3-3?

Posted

I am going to stick my neck on the line here and say Wellens must stay. We've shipped out Fernandes and Abe and King is injured plus Oakley probably will never play a meaningful part again and Moussa is not good enough.

Wellens showed against Southampton and Forest what a valuable player he is winning ball after ball and getting stuck in for the team. Even set goals up which we all know is not his strongest attribute (King was supposed to do that!!!....look how thats panning out)

Players who i feel have been worse than him whenever i've watched City this season are......King, Gallagher, Mills and Danns (bar recently) but noone is talking about them leaving.

this forum loves scapegoats...comical!!?!?
