davieG Posted 28 January 2012 Posted 28 January 2012 Merc Paolo Di Canio says he has changed his opinion of Leicester City and now believes they are good enough to reach the Championship play-offs. The Swindon Town boss, who brings his League Two side to the King Power Stadium today for an FA Cup fourth-round clash, said two weeks ago that City were "lots of old players who possibly think they are good but don't have the right discipline". However, the Italian watched City's impressive victory at Southampton on Monday night and now feels they are a better side than he first thoughtand he credits boss Nigel Pearson for that. "When I was talking about Leicester a few weeks ago, it was a completely different situation because as we all know football can change quickly," said Di Canio. "On Monday against Southampton, I saw a completely different team. They were more compact and had more discipline, and they are a team that I believe can now reach the play-offs. "This is the best moment for them under Pearson. Since he arrived there in November, I believe they have had five wins, five draws and three defeats. When I saw the draw, I said I was not worried because I felt they did not have discipline and they did not play as a team. "However, since then they have become more united and the performance against Nottingham Forest was fantastic, while the win over Southampton impressed me a lot. "It will be very tough and you can see what influence the manager has had because the team has changed completely." But Di Canio is still confident his side can produce another shock after dumping out Premier League side Wigan in the third round, and he warned that Swindon will go to the King Power Stadium to win. "We are going into the game from a good moment and we will go there to win," he said. "I believe that if you go with the real intention to play the way we can and aim to win the game, then we can do this. "This is probably not what all League Two clubs do when they go to a Championship side. Maybe they stay behind the ball and defend for their lives and rely on counter attacks and set-pieces. "First of all this is not my mentality, and second of all I believe in my players' ability. We will go there, work hard off the ball and, when we regain possession, we will push up with a minimum of five players and try to damage them. "Hopefully, this way we can produce another special performance and get another special result."
Jace Posted 28 January 2012 Posted 28 January 2012 Think I actually respect the guy now after reading this
paulsherwood1 Posted 28 January 2012 Posted 28 January 2012 Paulo di canio is a much bigger cock than I first thought, admits Paul Sherwood
bluesbrothers Posted 28 January 2012 Posted 28 January 2012 Anybody sit in the main stand? Be sure to save Paolo a seat.
Lineker's Left Foot Posted 28 January 2012 Posted 28 January 2012 What a numpty he is... FFS all we've done is had one win in the Championship and a good one in the Cup - albeit it is our two back to back wins and hopefully we can push on now - but there's still a lot of hard work to be done, but COME ON YOU FOXES AND SHOW DI CANIO HOW IT'S DONE.
Thrill Bert Fox Posted 28 January 2012 Posted 28 January 2012 It's too late Paolo you have already managed to wind up most of the Foxes Fans - come on city!!
1964FOX Posted 28 January 2012 Posted 28 January 2012 More mind games, he is going up in my estimation as a very good tactician, he will become a very good manager I have no doubt. I love his passion for the game, I hope he does very well after today.
Guest Col city fan Posted 28 January 2012 Posted 28 January 2012 Bollox to DiCanio... Let's just beat them well, shut him up and be done with it
Nick Posted 28 January 2012 Posted 28 January 2012 I'd like that - I've just stuck 60 notes on at 1.6 - a loss or a draw will give me the right hump
Leicester Rule! Posted 28 January 2012 Posted 28 January 2012 Wish more managers showed that attitude. Actually cares about the results, rather than just there for the money. I'd be happy if he became Leicester manager one day. Football needs more of these characters.
SAPFanSTFC Posted 28 January 2012 Posted 28 January 2012 Think I actually respect the guy now after reading this He respects players who work hard and don't think they've made it just because they're in the team.If you read about his past he was always the first one on and last off the training ground - unlike this season when he is last into the stadium and first into the stands Last week was ridiculous as he was sent off for waving his arms and shouting at his players..and my season ticket is pretty darn close. Should be a real football match today and hopefully a real stern test for you guys..maybe little old Swindon can raise the heartbeat of a few of you. Good luck for the rest of the season outside of the Cup! COYR!!
wellyfox Posted 28 January 2012 Posted 28 January 2012 He may have gobbed it off. But reading what he say's now I can't fault him. He judged us on what he had seen n heard of us upto that point of the season. Now after two games to a point we are a different side to what we have been most of the season. He's been big enough to admit It's not gonna be easy now where most would have carried it on.

Jace Posted 28 January 2012 Posted 28 January 2012 I cant help but agree with him completely, couple of weeks ago after we played Barnsley we looked poor and lacked dicipline and Swindon might of stood a chance. Last couple of games Pearson has turned it round and we have played excellently and we could reach the play offs if we continue playing like this. Sounds spot on to me

Sounds spot on to me I agree and although the league is more important than the cup I would like us to keep some momentum going and go into the game against Middlesbrough on the back of 3 wins
