bald reynard Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 Is there anything significant in the fact that Delfouneso didn't make the bench last night ? Has he now gone back to the Villa (I'm not sure when the loan was due to finish), is he injured (again, or his previous injury was worse than thought) - or was he simply dropped ?
jonlcfc1990 Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 I'm sure he'd be on the bench if fit and able to do so. Unfortunately i fear he's feeling the repercussions of that thorough mullering he got at Brighton
accessory Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 With Danns returning from a ban, someone had to drop out of the 16. The manager, taking account of the likely conditions at Watford, decided Howard was more suitable than Delfouneso for the bench. There should be nothing more to it than that. Hope Delfouneso is back in the squad on Saturday.
accessory Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 Unlikely. Pearson is hardly likely to drop Nugent or Beckford, is he?

I'm not disagreeing with you Accessory, I'm sure Nige did think Howard would be more suited to the Watford game, just that very few supporters (these days) would agree with him !
Happy Fox Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 I wouldn't go 4-4-2 against Norwich possible 4-3-3. With a Front three of Fonz, Nugent and Beckford.
bald reynard Posted 15 February 2012 Author Posted 15 February 2012 Maybe so he will start against Norwich? If you mean Delf, Villa won't let him play for us in the Cup. If you mean Big Steve, I wouldn't put it past Nige - our own Grant Holt (but with 10% of the skill and 0.01% of the pace - and Holt's hardly quick) !

If you mean Big Steve, I wouldn't put it past Nige - our own Grant Holt (but with 10% of the skill and 0.01% of the pace) ! Villa didn't want him cuptied while they were still in the competition. Now that they're out, there should be no problems with him featuring on Saturday, especially with seven players on the bench. As far as last night was concerned, some teams in this league (including Brighton and Watford) have worked out the best way to beat us is to physically intimidate us. Howard's inclusion was an attempt, albeit an ineffectual one, to counter that.
Captain... Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 I know that Henry goes back to the MLS tomorrow, so I assume Keane will be on his way and Villa will want him back, I don't think it has been a month though, so maybe he is sill suffering from that knock, I can understand how a younger fitter Howard would be just the kind of player who could get stuck into the Watford defenders, but we really must accept that he is past it now and is not the "Vieri of the championship" he was last season,
dannythefox Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 Unlikely. Pearson is hardly likely to drop Nugent or Beckford, is he? He can play out wide If you mean Delf, Villa won't let him play for us in the Cup. If you mean Big Steve, I wouldn't put it past Nige - our own Grant Holt (but with 10% of the skill and 0.01% of the pace - and Holt's hardly quick) ! Villa are out the cup now so surly they will let him play?
ThurnbyLodgeFox Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 If Fonz was dropped for no reason, and Howard made the bench, then I give up

What about that Greek guy at Everton (Vellios or whatever his name is) - we were linked with him only last week and if Delfouneso is to go back to the Villa, then he could be a good bet (if Everton are still prepared to let him go). The last I heard though, is that Cardiff were after him.
accessory Posted 15 February 2012 Posted 15 February 2012 Everton have a couple of strikers injured, so Vellios is unlikely to go anywhere.
Ilkeston_Fox Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 Thought he was still recovering from that shitter of a challenge at Brighton, as already mentioned in the thread. I doubt even Pearson would drop him and replace him with Howard....

Captain... Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 Aha!!, so you're the one who stole Pearsons little black book of one and only tactics Fixed it for you
Happy Fox Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 He is most likely to start on Saturday I would have thought, either in the wing position in a 4-4-2, or part of a front 3 in a 4-3-3
