SOCCERROO FOX Posted 4 February 2013 Posted 4 February 2013 Fantastic crowd and apparently a good match. As for the journos, if there isnt a media conspiracy against football (soccer) in this country then ill be amazed. Pro AFL journos scared by the round ball game potentially taking over (which it never will and forget they can both co-exist as played at different times of the year). Was listening to talkback sports radio today and all the people complaining about "feral hooligans" "thugs" etc. I was in the active area and never see any finds just standard banter between home and away fans plus the occasional ripped flare.
ozleicester Posted 4 February 2013 Author Posted 4 February 2013 The AFL fans and reporters have either never understood or forgtten what banter and away fans are about. Particularly outside of Vic, in stadiums that seat 50,000 plus, you rarely see more than 500-1000 away fans at AFL.. West Coast especially almost never have away fans.. just a few expats making up about 30 fans . Im off to the Adel 36ers Vs Perth Wildcats basketball this weekend... if previous outings are the judge, it will be about 4 of us...vs 10,000 of them.. ahh banter

From what I've seen of AFL, their "feral hooligans and thugs" are on the pitch. That never seems to occur to the journos. I've only been to a couple of Swans games but in each the "atmosphere" has barely got above a ripple of applause. The KP is a cauldron of noise by comparison. Great to see these big crowds in Melbourne. Quite funny that the surge in interest in the A League has coincided with probably the worst ever Sydney FC team. Wouldn't be surprised if del Piero buggers off at the end of the season
OzFox Posted 9 February 2013 Posted 9 February 2013 Well done the Wanderers. Second in the table, five wins in a row. Amazing first season they're having. And with Mark Bridge up front. Who would have thought? http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/video/17830467633/Western-Sydney-Wanderers-v-Newcastle-Jets
OzFox Posted 10 February 2013 Posted 10 February 2013 Nice pic. His secret must be in those double jointed ankles...
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 10 February 2013 Posted 10 February 2013 Who is he? Seriously i got no idea? Will be close to a sell out against the Wanders in the battle for 2nd. Can't see us winning.

ozleicester Posted 11 February 2013 Author Posted 11 February 2013 Glory coach Sacked... http://au.news.yahoo...h-ian-ferguson/ Not surprising really, bottom, no goals for five games and he was never a fave of the owner. Glory will advertise "worldwide" for a new coach tomorrow and Sage said Edwards was welcome to apply...... Sven???
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 14 February 2013 Posted 14 February 2013 Pretty excited for the game tomorrow night, WSW fans are even purchasing Genral admin tickets around the away area which is spilling in to our end apparently 700 of them in total at last count. Could be fireworks on and off the field after last weeks poor performance, The Arch missing we may struggle but must win if we want top 2. Think Flores is due a massive game
OzFox Posted 16 February 2013 Posted 16 February 2013 Looked like a decent match and atmosphere in Melbourne. The Wanderers go rolling on. Popovich should get an Order of Australia for what he's doing there. Things are looking up at SFC. Five home wins in a row now. Not sure how they're going to accommodate Lucas Neill as well as the other marquees....Emerton might be the fall guy, he's been largely anonymous this season

A little loop hole Sydney have exploited.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 16 February 2013 Posted 16 February 2013 Sitting in a pub still pissed off was a poor performance good to see the 17yr old score for us. WSW very vocal but varying pro serbian sort of fans has no idea what they were singing but just like us it was none stop for 90 minutes. FFA paying Neils wages.

Will get interesting though if he hangs around next season, especially if former marquee Nick Carle returns from his loan spell.
Idioteque Posted 26 February 2013 Posted 26 February 2013 I watch some highlights and even the odd game of the A-League when I can, like WSW a lot, really making their mark for a new club, nice to see Emile doing good there too, friend of mine and his girlfriend who moved over here from Oz follows the Victory (just don't mention Muscat to him)

WSW are pretty good for a team didn't even exist until a few months before the start of the season. They have put a team in a very pro football area and it's paying dividends with some of the best support in the league. They built there team from the defence and it's worked, there hard to score against and have some good players in Midfield with Mooy and Ono

OzFox Posted 10 March 2013 Posted 10 March 2013 Nine wins in a row for the Wanderers, a new A league record. And it looks like they'll win the League. Pretty amazing when you think they were favourites to finish last. Mariners looked pretty ordinary yesterday and I can't see them making up a five point gap. Half decent crowd again at Sydney, although I reckon half of them are only there because of del Piero. Excrutiating squeals of delight every time he completes a 5 yard pass, and howls of rage if an opposition player tackles him fairly. All a bit embarrassing really...I'm half thinking of sitting with the away fans to get away from it. The Cove were handing out a fanzine yesterday called 'Nothing but Blue Skies". It's free and is a better read than the $5 official programme. I don't remember seeing a fanzine in Australia before... anyone else got one at their club?
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 5 April 2013 Posted 5 April 2013 Happy Victory supporter tonight, elimination final down 1 nil in the 88th minute and conceed a penalty we had every reason to think the season was over! they miss the pen we get a pen 2 minutes later and then score in extra time the crowd was going mental best season ever.

Once again Glory are ripped off in the finals, a clear handball by a Victory player....and the ref awards a penalty against Glory. Fking shambles! Pretty shitty game to watch in all honesty, dont think Victory will go any further (neither wouldve Glory) oh and at TV reports of "Football Hooligans" at the game... 3 flares = Hooligans

The Pen we got was at the other end to where we were so can't comment, when we got it shit went feral some of the best scenes ever. Then feral again when Archie scored. Hope we can surprise and beat CCM cos will definetly be heading to Sydney for the final if we make it.
