TrentFox Posted 10 April 2012 Posted 10 April 2012 If (such a huuuuuge word in football) we had conceded one goal less (Blackpool away, perhaps), and scored one goal more, (Forest at home perhaps), we'd be sitting in the play-off zone right now. Not a time for huge changes on any front. A couple of good signings for the starting 11, maybe freshen things up a little in the overall squad. Nothing major. Just make what we've got play close to their best and (contnue to) establish a performance mentality. Looking forward to a relatively quiet summer !!!!!
Haydos Posted 10 April 2012 Posted 10 April 2012 Futacs is just a younger (he's 22) Howard with a goal in him. You're hilarious! 4 goals in 24 games. Did you hate Yakubu?
mattsmith74 Posted 10 April 2012 Posted 10 April 2012 Season over???? I think Easter results will change a few minds. I think players have finally realised that they don't have divine right to win games and have to work hard. Based on last couple of games there is plenty of optimism although I accept this could quite easily go just as quickly. I would say we are 2 or 3 quality signings from be where we would like. Need a new right back and left winger to add competition. Midfiled got lots of options and I'm happy with strikers. Another one to put a bit of pressure on wouldn't go a miss.
Leicesterpool Posted 10 April 2012 Posted 10 April 2012 Well it depends what league we are going to be in. If we remain in the championship then- Outs- Weale Howard Tunchev Gallagher Peilter (cash in i think would be best) Waghorn Logan In- Wilfried Zaha from Palace Jamie Vardy from Fleetwood Peter Whittingham from Cardiff Nathan Cameron from Coventry Wesley York from Nuneaton Town (boro) (trust me worth a look at, best move quick last I heard Cov and Birmingham were both looking at him) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mOtb_Nf_RIc skip to 1:30 see is goal

Leicesterpool Posted 10 April 2012 Posted 10 April 2012 Emile Heskey contract runs out in the summer so if we do get him it will be on the free, the problem is what I've seen of him at villa he's very slow and doesn't score many. Not even sure he's this level anymore, and we can't really sell Vassell his contract runs out in the summer aswell. I hope Vassell's stays though.

While that is true, you could also say if we had conceded one goal more yesterday, and one more against Hull in March, then we'd be well out of the race for the playoffs. I sometimes think about that, but then if every club in the league was allowed to tweak a couple of results their way, the table would still look the same as it does now, anyway. I agree with you about the summer. I don't think we need another overhaul. Just a few players out, and a few new players, hopefully of Marshall's quality, and we should be laughing next season.
Guest Col city fan Posted 10 April 2012 Posted 10 April 2012 Simple... Leave the defence alone. Buy a younger, more mobile version of Wellens, a creative playmaker Buy a midfield ball winner. Buy another nippy winger to compliment what we have already. Sell Beckford and replace him with Ched Evans. That's what I'd do. I don't know who I'd go for in the middle until I'd had a good look. But Jay Thomas would be on my radar. I don't think we are too far off.. Oh... And get rid of Matt fookin Mills.. I don't care if he's any good anymore.
Ozwin Posted 10 April 2012 Posted 10 April 2012 Beckford out, Ched ****ing Evans in? You are having me on. Also Peter Whittingham would get the Gallagher treatment if he played for us, he's basically the same player but can score more free kicks.
Leicesterpool Posted 10 April 2012 Posted 10 April 2012 Also just to mention Wes York is a winger and of course in the summer we need a winger.
Larry_LCFC Posted 10 April 2012 Posted 10 April 2012 I dont understand these long lists of ins and outs. Its stupid beyond belief! All the changes we had last summer were not good for us. People were still using the "time to gel" excuse beyond christmas! We need to stick with the relative stability we have at the minute and bring in maybe 3 or 4 players maximum just to sure up certain areas.

I'm not starting another abusive 'Beckford haterz' load of nonsense again. But yes, I'd replace him. 8 league goals in what now? 40 league appearances. That's not good enough mate. And Ive always liked Evans and suggested him for us last summer. Anyway that's my view.

Your spot on we don't need that many players for me priority positions LW, defensive midfielder, target man and a right back.

Because he's not been good enough? Yet you want to leave the defence alone...Right. Goalscoring has not been a problem for us. Besides this, I can only see Beckford improving, especially if we sign a winger and a centre mid that will be more incisive in the final 1/3. (It's 8 in 33 btw). We still don't have an outstanding, first choice, dominant defender. Let's assume Mills is on his way out. He need replacing with someone with experience who will be our No.1 choice at the back. In my eyes we currently have Mills, St Leger, Morgan and Bamba and none of them stand out for me. On Monday we again saw Bamba at fault for a goal. This time getting easily turned (looked like he moved out the way for Scotland if I'm being honest, embarrassing for a guy his size). I'm just highlighting the fact that I think Bamba is nowhere near as good as a lot of people who for some reason think he is by far our best defender. Back to my point, I don't have a first choice centre back, let alone a first 2. I'm not sure Pearson does either and if he does it's only because he forced into it.

Goal scoring hasn't been a problem for us mate from primarily other positions. Marshalls goals for example have been massively important recently. Nugent has scored enough to warrant a start week in week out. Beckfords league goals tally has been rubbish. It's a bloody good job some of the others have chipped in, so yes I want another striker who scores more goals. Simple for me. As for the defence, yep I think the centre backs we have are good enough. My point for ages has been the rest of the team have not helped the back five out, defensively, sufficiently. Hence my desire for a commanding central midfield ball winner. Anyway hope that's clear.. As for Bamba.... Im still mixed on him. Morgan would play every week for me. St.ledger would be my other choice I reckon.

League Beckford 8 in 29(6) Nugent 15 in 38(0) Overall Beckford 14 in 33(7) Nugent 16 in 43(1) How do those small differences warrant Nugent a 'start week in week out' yet Beckford to be sold becuase his stats are rubbish? They're not rubbish Col, his league stats are a bit worse granted but his overall stats are basically the same, if not better. I'm by no means saying I think he's the best thing since sliced bread but I do think you're being very blinkered. I think he deserves another season. I know you're not his biggest fan but replacing him with Ched Evans after one season? I can't believe that.

I know you're not his biggest fan but replacing him with Ched Evans after one season? I can't believe that. I've said this before Haydos... We were never gonna win the FA cup. Becks FA cup goals were good goals, albeit mainly against a Forest side who were utterly abject on the night. The important goals IMO are the week in, week out, bread and butter League goals. It's here that neither striker have massively excelled but Beckford has been poor. Believe me, if we had a second striker who was as prolific in the league as Nuge has been we would be in the play offs by now. As for Ched Evans... Read some of the 'wishlists' threads last summer. I suggested Ched Evans then. And Billy Sharp. I'm not blinkered mate. I've said I'm very happy with Morgan, although his lack of pace may be his Achilles heel, I like Drinky and Marshall looks top banana. But we need better than Jermaine. I have nothing against him personally, I don't 'hate him' I'm just a fan expressing an opinion on a player. One which, I think, Pearson may share.

I'm not trying to sell you on the fact that they were just as important, only that he scored them. He put the ball in the back of the net as many time as Nugent in the sameish number of games. That shows some ability, for me, and is why he deserves longer to show us what he can do. If we keep hold of him and he doesn't improve this season then i'll hold my hands up and say fair enough, you called it. I honestly think he'll improve and IF we're a play off team next season, he'll get 15 league goals. I won't pester you, we each have our opinions. I guess we'll see what happens come summer. You reckon NP wants rid as well? I can't make up my mind whether he seems to want him here or is just playing him simply because of the lack of options up top.

I appreciate your posts because they are usually spot on. And polite. Of course, I really don't know either whether Nige wants Becks here. All I see is Nigel's face when Becks misses one or loses control of the ball. He looks as frustrated as I do. As for me 'hating Beckford'.... On Saturday, he hoofed one high into the stand, the ball took ages to come down and when it did it landed plum on my mothers head! She is disabled and sits on the front row. To be fair it shook her up a little. Anyway, a couple of minutes later, Beckford looked over to mi mum and patted his head, asking her if she was ok.... Top bloke.
