Rincewind Posted 15 April 2012 Posted 15 April 2012 I received an email today. It went to my spam so not worried but it was supposedly from a lawyer from Malasia saying someone with the same surname as me died recently and their bank account showed x million pounds forget the amount. I would delete it but I was wondering if there is anywhere that this type of scam can be reported. They include a telephone number which I presume is false. I believe it was a mobile. I just would not like to see anyone being taken for a ride. I doubt very much that it is genuine. If it wasn't for the fact that some people would be taken in it might be funny even if it is their own fault for being taken in by greed.

Rincewind Posted 16 April 2012 Author Posted 16 April 2012 Thanks I'll forward it to them. If there is a slight chance they will be found out it will be good. If they are genuine I could miss out on a million quid. Oh well cel la vie
Jackirius Posted 16 April 2012 Posted 16 April 2012 If you are stupid enough to fall for something like that then you shouldn't be on a computer.
Rincewind Posted 16 April 2012 Author Posted 16 April 2012 Or refer them to these guys http://www.419eater.com/ They are private investigators. They want paying. Just noticed one of the Tel numbers given starts with 0116 which is Leicester so if they are solicitors they should be listed in the local yellow pages. Unless there is Malaysian phone codes that start with the same numbers. Forwarded it to the fraud email. They don't contact you so I won't know what happens. There is a law firm in Malaysia of that name. Their main thing is arbitration and land. Still do not trust it though. Probably emailed everyone of that name. Sure the diseased and relatives in that area or had a will. The email only sys contact them for more information Anyway if the address is genuine somebody maybe using the name which would be randomly picked so the actual solicitor could be being conned too by having their name used.
DB11 Posted 16 April 2012 Posted 16 April 2012 You mean if I give my bank details out to a stranger online then they won't give me millions of $$$ like they said?! I feel such a fool!

Seriously Nightguard, I can tell you in 100% confidence without even seeing the email that it is just the same type of scam email I get several times a week. Absolutely no doubt whatsoever.
Rincewind Posted 16 April 2012 Author Posted 16 April 2012 I believe you. I wasn't taken in for a second. I also get them. Especially the ones where they say my email has beenpicked out and I've won an Ipod. It's the first time I've decided to do something about it. Anyway thought you all need a laugh after you know what the other day.
21st Century Fox Posted 19 April 2012 Posted 19 April 2012 I was trying to find this for ages last week when I saw this thread. The phone call is genius. http://gerryduggan.com/post/11095312846/scamming-the-scammer
