Guest Posted 25 October 2013 Posted 25 October 2013 I don't think it's a good idea putting anyone on ignore FIF . Some of the posters that I'd probably disagree about most subjects are quite often the wittiest and most intelligent too. Moosey MattP TPH Webbo Babylon etc etc ( to name but a few there are loads more) couldn't possibly differ more from my outlook , but they sure as hell make me laugh and think about things differently too. I seem to be disagreeing with them all the time That's why i think FT is better now than the supposed "good old days" when everyone seemed to either agree or were hounded out by the snarling mob . Although if some becomes personally insulting towards another poster I can see why . But I'm sure the mods can usually sort that out If someone wants to rant and rage on here about stuff and nonsense , just let them get on with it. What real harm is there ? Generally I agree. I wouldn't put moosey on ignore for example but TPH has turned into a whiny bitch repeating the same thing over and over and his posts in the football forum are simply depressing and bullshit. I can do without wasting my time. I'd never put Moosey and MattP on ignore because I disagree with them. Even Moosey, who's blatantly on the wind up most of the time. I do think the ignore feature is handy for pointless tools like kingfox, though, who offer nothing. Ironically, FIF as well. no problem. If you go to your profile (towards the top right of the screen) and click on the white down arrow if gives you an 'Ignore User Preferences' option (or something along those lines) - click that and it then gives you the option to choose which users you want to put on ignore. Thanks, done.
FoxesAreBlue Posted 25 October 2013 Posted 25 October 2013 I must admit that while I never had any personal issues with FIF I used to have you on ignore because I thought you were just saying things to antagonise people. Then, almost as soon as I'd done that I could see people quoting you and you seemed to have changed for the better (in my eyes!) and off you came! The only other person who came close to an ignore from me was Rincewind when he had a chip on his shoulder a bit a couple of months ago - but again, he's less repetative now too.
Rincewind Posted 25 October 2013 Posted 25 October 2013 Thank you but I do not believe I had a chip on my shoulder just frustration and annoyance with some Govt. Officials when on JSA. Now retired, working part time and a published writer. Which I can put down as my profession if I wish so I am much happier.

You never came over to me as having a chip on your shoulder. You just sounded like you wanted to get stuff off your chest and draw attention to the frustrations life throws at us all from time to time. I guess it's difficult on forums to express opinions about social issues that you feel strongly about without sounding either preachy or resentful. I suppose if the reader is in general agreement with the sentiments it sounds reasonable , if they are in disagreement ,they can sound preachy.

But before I was unemployed I never saw any of these 'social issues' I still leant towards that way but never had the experience or knowledge. Once you experience these things are are in contact with others who have experience it becomes a lot clearer about what is really happening. If I had quickly found a job I would not be any wiser unless I researched the subjects. I could be Indifferent to it all and agreeing with Moose.
FoxesAreBlue Posted 25 October 2013 Posted 25 October 2013 It wasn't your benefits that got to me, it was the ability to change almost any thread I to a topic about homeless people. Not saying it's not an issue that doesn't deserve a good deal of publicity and I agree with your views but I found it a little tedious reading about it everywhere. Not enough to ignore you though! Keep up the good work and ignore what I have to say!

I'll pop down for your signing and say hello, as long as the queue's not too big! I suppose I'll have to get there early!

MooseBreath Posted 25 October 2013 Posted 25 October 2013 Ooh you bitch. Well if he's gonna drop my name in 50% of his post like some love struck teenage girl then he's asking for it imo.
Stadt Posted 25 October 2013 Posted 25 October 2013 It would be good if you could see who had you on ignore, in my case I'm probably not even noticed before being put on ignore
Rincewind Posted 25 October 2013 Posted 25 October 2013 Not so bothered now. The ones that agree I don't need to tell and the ones that disagree will never back down. I was getting fed up of stories being hijacked and turned on their head to make a joke of what are serious subjects. I have also posted stories about people turning their lives around and programs that help them do this but these have also been mocked, So as I said I won't bother now. There is Google for those that need it. As for my book Moose, can't really say when it will be out but I will be sure to support yours with the praise it deserves.
Guest Col city fan Posted 25 October 2013 Posted 25 October 2013 I miss Bab's contribution. He makes me laff cos he gets soooo pissed off with some of the crap he reads. Mine included He takes it all so seriously but I reckon he's a good bloke. In terms of people saying the same stuff over and over... I think that's worse in here than in the main forum. Not in terms of content, cos the threads are different, but in terms of views. The same views are bleated out by the same posters, with the usual bit of sarcasm thrown in, so I usually stay out of here.

Rincewind Posted 26 October 2013 Posted 26 October 2013 I don't go on the footie part much. Match day thread that is all. I have no strong opinions on 4-4-2 or Pearson out etc. I am not a manager and never will be so I would guess the formation is selected on many factors not just on a matchday. Pearson in-out? How are the team doing? Are they bottom of the league? No? I will not moan. It can get heated here but it only takes a couple with outragious views to stir it. I have started to give + to posters that say something similar to what I would like to say instead of replying which would result in the usual suspects disagreeing just for fun in an attempt to get a response.

Rincewind Posted 26 October 2013 Posted 26 October 2013 I have delayed putting my CH on so far. I am managing. A relativelly young OAP but I dread to think how it is for some. For them the choice is eat or heat.

For them the choice is eat or heat. And yet you can afford to be down the pub almost everyday. So what handouts are you claiming that they're not?
Guest Posted 26 October 2013 Posted 26 October 2013 Although it's not too cold ATM 23c here this morning. I'm still in my shorts.
Strokes Posted 26 October 2013 Posted 26 October 2013 Eat or heat, if i was left with that choice id get out my jumper and tuck in. Its funny though all these people complaining about eat or heat seem to have phone lines and internet connections, i would get rid of them first.

One of the sessions Action Homeless does with people is kinda playrole and they ask the participants what would be the most important 5hing you'd get first when moving into a flat. TV often come top and they have to be told no. still doesnt mean a life of luxury without but it prioritises things.

Everyones a winner
