Barton vs Tevez

It seems a bit over the top for what actually happened, and a case of who was being punished being the reason for the length of the ban.

1) Repeat offender--and 2nd ban this season for violent conduct

2) Admitted to attempting to provoke the other team

3) Multiple instances of violent conduct in one incident

Add all of those up, and 12 games doesn't seem unfair to me. Joey Barton has been punished several times for his anti-social behavior. Of course the FA were going to throw the book at him this time.

Although being such a lengthy ban, I'd be interested to see if the PFA assist Barton in appealing to shorten it. They probably should, if only to make sure long bans like this won't become precedent unless there is serious violent behavior in the matter.

People keep saying if he wasn't a liability he'd walk into the England team lol What a joke. Mid table player at best. Would only get near the England squad with injuries to a lot of key players. Lampard, Parker, Gerrard, Wilshere, Carrick, Barry, Milner all ahead of him by far.

I don't have a problem with that, to be honest.

What's wrong with increasing somebody's ban because of repeat offences? Someone's history is taken in to account in a court of law, is it not? Or is that just on TV dramatisations?

Joey Barton needs to learn that he can't do what the **** he wants and get away with the odd two game ban here and there, what he did to Sergio Aguero was assault and to go on to try and provoke Kompany in to a fight and then admit it on Twitter to get him sent off? Just beyond stupid.

Twelve games isn't long enough. He's never shown any interest in changing his ways or any remorse for some of the stupid things he's done, I don't see why we let him continue to play the sport. It should be a privilege to get to make your living off the beautiful game and if he's going to continue to sully it why let him stay in the public eye as a key role model for others?
