LCFC_6410 Posted 3 June 2012 Share Posted 3 June 2012 I've noticed most signings we've been linked to are in their 30s coming to the end of their career and this made me think would you rather have a manger for the long term even if we didnt make it to the play offs straight away or keep changing and hope we get a good one? Personally i would like to see a manager sign a 6 year deal this allows him to get the squad he wants. Im open to other suggestion though.
Dan LCFC Posted 3 June 2012 Share Posted 3 June 2012 Long term. Short term (Sven) didn't work. Unfortunately in football nowadays clubs who appoint long-term managers are hugely numbered.

Pearson has invested in plenty of young players

Corky Posted 3 June 2012 Share Posted 3 June 2012 We've signed three young players, Chester and Stewart are heavily linked too, all well under 30. Heskey is the only seemingly concrete interest in a player over 30.

Lies, he said more than that so let me clear this up. All 3 players Pearson has bought this summer have been under 25 yet here we are here on Foxestalk discussing if we would prefer a manager looking long term instead of buying old players looking short term? Unbelievable He's asking if you'd prefer a manager to stay for the long term, ensuring stability but not making the play-offs or repeatedly change manager year after year to try and get promotion. He's not asking if you'd prefer the manager to buy players for the future instead of older heads with experience. Clear?

Not really because all the players that have joined are young not old and looking long term http://www.lcfc.com/page/LatestNews/0,,10274~2793984,00.html
flowwolf Posted 3 June 2012 Share Posted 3 June 2012 Here is the reality we sign a manager on long term , he turns out to be crap we sack him and have to pay his long term wages up. That's the way to do it.

That's the way to do it.  I think that's exactly what would have happened with Sven... God knows how much money his pay off was? The world of football management (like big Corporate business) never ceases to amaze me in terms of managers being paid off for essentially failing to fulfill their objectives. However, to be fair to Sven we really dont know if he would have achieved his objectives I guess.
Dan LCFC Posted 4 June 2012 Share Posted 4 June 2012 I swear Sven's contract would've been up this month.
ta-fc Posted 4 June 2012 Share Posted 4 June 2012 I like what Pep did at Barcelona where a manager only signs a 1 year rolling contract every Cheistmas you get together and talk about a new deal...
MooseBreath Posted 5 June 2012 Share Posted 5 June 2012 Last time we got promoted to the prem our approach was so short term that we didn't know if half of our players would even make it to the end of the season. Since then we have had a succession of long term approaches which have all failed without exception. Take from that what you will.
