Zingari Posted 7 August 2012 Posted 7 August 2012 If you are the best your country has got, you deserve to go - that's the Olympic spirit that should be embraced in my opinion. We need a few 'Eddie the Eagles' a few guys who jump in the pool and swim the entire length, 'side stroke' under water like they've actually had a stroke. Otherwise we may as well just watch Chinese athletics because its a higher standard. He should have taken all that skiing gear off before he did all that, it surely must have affected his swimming stroke
AoWW Posted 7 August 2012 Posted 7 August 2012 I'm resonable safe in here the backwaters of the forum where females dare to visit. Oh you think so, do you?
Guest shearfox Posted 7 August 2012 Posted 7 August 2012 Im not sure people are aware of just how slow 14 secs is for the 100m. I would go far as to say its less than the average time you would expect from a healthy female from any country, let alone an athlete. A man for sure, a woman absolutely not...
Jordan Posted 9 August 2012 Posted 9 August 2012 As a reference, here is The New York Times' interactive feature on the times run by every men's Olympic medalist in the 100m: http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2012/08/05/sports/olympics/the-100-meter-dash-one-race-every-medalist-ever.html
Daggers Posted 9 August 2012 Posted 9 August 2012 It's a tad embarrassing if you ask me. I'm not sure anyone did.
Collymore Posted 10 August 2012 Author Posted 10 August 2012 I'm not sure anyone did. You're wrong. Collymore, my time travelling friend - do you think some of the athletes at London 2012 are a tad embarrassing?
ADK Posted 10 August 2012 Posted 10 August 2012 I dislike how in some sports there are better athletes who are unable to compete having to make way for crap athletes from obscure countries.
Nick Posted 10 August 2012 Posted 10 August 2012 I dislike how in some sports there are better athletes who are unable to compete having to make way for crap athletes from obscure countries. Hmm, I think you are missing the point of the Olympics somewhat.
davieG Posted 12 August 2012 Posted 12 August 2012 Hmm, I think you are missing the point of the Olympics somewhat. Although 'it's not the winning it's the taking part' doesn't seem to have taken much of a hold especially the way the media focusses on those winning, in some events it's been hard to determine who else is competing besides the winners unless they are so far behind when they become celebrity failures. The BBC has been particularly guilty of sycophancy over certain winners as well, the way they continued to interview the Jamaican Relay team whilst David Rudisha was getting his gold medal even though it was obvious the Jamaican Team wanted to see the medal ceremony themselves was disrespectful to Rudisha and Kenya.
ADK Posted 12 August 2012 Posted 12 August 2012 Hmm, I think you are missing the point of the Olympics somewhat. I think it should still be the best athletes competing.
Captain... Posted 12 August 2012 Posted 12 August 2012 seems an appropriate thread, guess how they pronounce this Ukranian modern pentathlete's name Iryna Khokhlova hint, the h is silent.
