Mickey O'Neil Posted 4 December 2012 Posted 4 December 2012 I've just spent 2 fantastic weeks in Ho Chi Minh City. I was walking down a busy street in my City shirt when a young Vietnamese lad came out of a restaurant he was working in and shouted "Tonee Codeee! Muzzy! " Anyway, I spoke to him for a little while and I was surprised that he knew a little bit about Leicester. He was also quite excitable when talking about City and tbf, I was chuffed to bits that he wasn't a Man U or Chelsea fan. Anyway, I hopped back to my hotel and grabbed an old City shirt and gave it to him. He was super-excited. I watched him for a minute afterwards and he was hopping around the restaurant like he had a wasp down his pants!! So, Saigon Fox (or anyone else), if you are walking down Bui Vien in D1 of Saigon, look out for a young lad working in Mimosa restaurant wearing an old City shirt!!
Jon the Hat Posted 4 December 2012 Posted 4 December 2012 Good man! When I was in that part of the world 8-9 years ago we were of course on Fox Sports quite a lot! I have a particularly bad memory of watching us throw away a 3-0 lead against Wolves to lose 4-3 in a bar in Laos. Ouch.
flowwolf Posted 4 December 2012 Posted 4 December 2012 Nice one Micky ! did you get his address perhaps we could all send over some of our old shirts to him and his mates , I know I have a few knocking around doing nothing and I would not imagine the postage would be too high. It would be good to spread the fox's around a bit and perhaps recruit some new fans as well.
Mickey O'Neil Posted 4 December 2012 Author Posted 4 December 2012 88 Bui Vien Street, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Good idea flowwolf! TBH, I'm a bit of a fat bastard so it might be a bit big for him!!
Haydos Posted 4 December 2012 Posted 4 December 2012 Great story, top work. He sounded like Short Round from Indiana Jones in my head
cambridgefox Posted 4 December 2012 Posted 4 December 2012 I will send my "yuki,he'll eat your dog" shirt. Seriously great gesture ,I was surprised in Thailand the other year about how knowledgable they were, even with the Thai connection.I thought it would be Chelsea Man Utd etc as you said.

Captain... Posted 4 December 2012 Posted 4 December 2012 That shirt that is being sold is for a 14-15 year old... It was in Vietnamese when I found it It just re-directs to English e-bay, oh well. The joke is still the same.
flowwolf Posted 5 December 2012 Posted 5 December 2012 Still going to send my five old shirts off to him. It's nothing to me but seems like it would mean a lot to him so what have I got to lose ?
Mickey O'Neil Posted 6 December 2012 Author Posted 6 December 2012 That's a fantastic offer Flowwolf. I might dig out a few more of mine. Oh, that shirt on ebay isn't mine Cap'n Shrap! Like I said, he was buzzing and doing a jig in the restaurant after I gave him the shirt. I honestly believe he'll keep it.
skinnydipper Posted 6 December 2012 Posted 6 December 2012 Well done Mickey. The Thais should install you as head of global marketing

I know, I was just being a cynic, got burnt by a few locals round that way a few years ago, It really made me distrust the locals after that.
Mickey O'Neil Posted 6 December 2012 Author Posted 6 December 2012 Damn just left Saigon yesterday for Nha Trang, I've got a Leicester shirt in my bag aswell, could have started up a fan club Ah! whereabouts were you? Did you do the Mekong? Loved that trip. I was based in D1 on Bui Vien. I know, I was just being a cynic, got burnt by a few locals round that way a few years ago, It really made me distrust the locals after that. Got you mate. I was burnt after coming out of the airport. There was a toll booth and it was 400vnd. I (STUPIDLY) asked the driver how much in US$. He said $5. I handed over $5 and sat working it out. I worked it out to being a few pence. When I got to the hotel, cheeky bugger asked for a tip!! I told him to keep the rest of the $5 as a tip!!! I know that $5 is only around £3 but it was the principle.
Jackirius Posted 6 December 2012 Posted 6 December 2012 Ah! whereabouts were you? Did you do the Mekong? Loved that trip. I was based in D1 on Bui Vien. Unfortunately didn't get time to, we've got a flight out of Hanoi on the 19th so have to get through Vietnam pretty quickly which sucks as I love it already. Was only in Saigon for 2 days and stayed in the main backpacker street 'ngu Lao' or something like that? Got quite a lot in though and saw a fair bit of the city. Doing this hop on hop off bus trip so am currently in Nha trang, off to the waterpark island everyone raves about tomorrow then up to Hoi an. You travelling about or just in Saigon?
