Huddersfield Player Ratings

Recommended Posts

Hard to single anyone out in a very professional performance against the worst visiting team I've seen in ages. However, given his limited experience, I thought Keane was worthy of a mention. Ditto Matty James, who I thought was excellent.

Schmeichel- 7 (Commanded his area and made a couple of saves)

De Laet- 8 (Got forward well, scored a fine goal)

Morgan- 7 (Not his best game for us, but still strong)

Keane- 8 (Really impressed. Composed on the ball, dominant in the air)

Konchesky- 7 (Back to form, good display)

Knockaert- 9 (Two great goals, an assist, they couldn't cope with him)

James- 8 (Everywhere. Got stuck in, used the ball intelligently)

Drinkwater- 6.5 (Seems to have gone off the boil lately)

Marshall- 7 (Looked more comfortable today)

Nugent- 8 (Linked up superbly with Wood, unlucky not to score)

Wood- 9 (Two goals, an assist, what a debut)

Waghorn- 7 (Cracking volley)

Dyer- 6 (Ran well but end product didn't come off)

Gallagher- 6 (To be fair, he got involved and won a couple of challenges)

Kasper 7(One or two important blocks during their brief period of pressure in the second half).

De Laet 8 (So enjoyed scoring his excellent goal and stayed 100% involved).

Morgan 6.5 (Not his best game. Looked a bit ponderous).

Keane 8 (What an improvement he made in one of our problem positions. Efficient enough defensively and reasonably accurate most of the time when in possession).

Konchesky 7 (Tried to make himself available going forward and rarely tested defensively).

Marshall 7 (Okay without being in any way exceptional).

James 8 (Excellent).

Drinkwater 7 (Steady enough).

Knockaert 10 (Superb. Did the simple things where simplicity was called for and continually made things happen when he had the chance. Two goals, two assists and far too much for Huddersfield to cope with. Looked like a team player today as well.

Nugent 7.5 (Linked in straight away with his new strike partner and gave him a perfect assist by getting his head up early and delivering the perfect final pass).

Wood 9.5 (Why would you wait to use a guy like this. The aerially capable striker we've been waiting for and two goals and an assist was the perfect greeting for his new fans).

Waghorn 7.5 (Splendid finish for his goal) .

Dyer 6 ( A few promising situations and one seemingly endless run but the glory was elsewhere).

Gallagher 6 (Didn't really understand his inclusion but he did okay and might have scored with his one decent shot).

This is pretty much how I saw things. Had DD been on form as well, god knows how many we could have had!

Schmeichel: 7

De Laet: 7 - Cafu-esque runs all game.

Morgan: 8 - Not sure about the random dart into the box in the 1st half, but solid as ever.

Keane: 7 - Composed and did well aerially.

Konch: 7

Marshall: 7 - Gave the ball away a bit but was creative with his passing.

Drinkwater: 6 - Lost possession too much for my liking and was out muscled too often.

James: 9 - Superb. Worked hard, closed down, won the ball and was creative and attacking with his passing.

Knocky 8 - Two great goals and constant creativity.

Nugent: 7 - Linked up well with Wood, especially for his second.

Wood 8 - Just what we needed, a focal point, someone to aim at.

Waghorn: 7 - Great finish and looked sharp.

Dyer 6.5: 6 - Should have scored.

Gally 6 - Good work rate, poor passing but a great shot.
