Have any of you put fairway woods into your bag instead of long irons or hybrids?

I'm looking at a 7W and maybe even a 9W to replace my 3H and maybe even my 6i which I struggle to get height from unless it's off the tee.

I'm playing Lingdale this Sunday. I assume at least one or two of you will have played it before? The lads I'm going with have and said it's decent but it's my first visit.

Shame it's probably gonna be a bit rainy this weekend.

Depends on what condition it's in with the lack of water but I think the front 9 is probably the best 9 holes in Leicestershire, the back 9.. not so much.

All opinions of course, but always enjoyed it there.

I'm a member there, although I haven't played for 12 months, arthritis & other ailments sadly.

I have walked the course a few times lately & the fairways are very fiery, although not in too bad a condition. Heavy showers over the last few days may have softened & greened them up hopefully.

It used to be a nine hole course, which is the front 9. The back nine has now been open for 30 odd years & has matured nicely now. Contrary to what Howards said I actually prefer the back 9, but it's all opinion.

It's quite a tough course as a lot of the greens are raised & difficult to judge the yardages. I'm sure you'll enjoy it, the setting is wonderful, in the middle of Charnwood Forest, close to Bradgate Park & not a house anywhere to be seen while you are playing.

if you need to know anything please feel free to ask

The Walker Cup is always a good watch.

Especially being at Cypress Point which is arguably the best course in the world.

GB&I underdogs as always and rarely win it but maybe this time...

I just flicked it on to see how Luke Poulter is doing.

Yeah he's doing well, him and Forster 3 up with 5 to play.

Course looks incredible.

Let's hope we can convert game 3 into a point - then it's a great morning of results.

Great session and the ideal start for GB&I

However, the US team world rankings are far superior so I expect them to dominate the singles.

I'm guesing the US lead 7-5 by close of play (and I really hope I'm wrong!)

How did you get on?

I can’t stand the 7 holes across the road

Very nice course. I think I liked the back 9 best personally.

It's in very good nick other than one or two tee boxes. Fairways have recovered to be quite green now. Greens ran very nice.

I had a good front 9 of 44 and should have broken 90, but messed up the back 9 and ended up with 92.

Very enjoyable course though and I like the layout. I got told off for wearing my cap in the clubhouse pre-round though :P

That’s a good score round there particularly as your first knock. 👏🏼

Glad you enjoyed it. We do seem to have a problem with some of the tees, I think they are planning to revamp some of them but as always it's money.

Sorry you had an issue with wearing your cap in the clubhouse. It is actually a club rule, but you wouldn't know that so a bit unfortunate. Believe me it is not a snooty or stuck-up club, exactly the opposite actually

I only put it on because it started to rain just as we were getting the clubs out of the car. So I still had it on. I don't usually wear one as a rule. We had to nip into the clubhouse to get the wifi password as none of us could get a phone signal until we were out on the course. No problems with being told to take the cap off either, I know that's a rule at some places.

I found it a very friendly club though to be fair. I chatted to two of the older lady members who were teeing off after us, and they gave us some advice about the first hole.

Plus we let the ladies singles final play through on the back 9 (thanks to the two behind us warning us they were coming up), and we sat talking with the referee and winner of that match outside the clubhouse too (there was a big society out there doing presentations so no free tables), and they were both very friendly as well.

I'd definitely play there again happily.

Same as me, the back 9 is ruined by those holes.

I haven't played there for years mind so I can quite imagine it looks different now.

It may look different to how you remember it, but it’s still very repetitive, other than that uphill par 4 at the far end of the field

Got 4 rounds of golf in the next 2 weeks which is unheard of for me. Back will be in bits by the end of it (one of the reasons I tend to play as little as possible even though its my favourite sport)

She's a fantastic golfer but never has been a prolific winner. She's only won 7 tournaments in her career to date.

I think the perception is of her being a much more dominant force than she is in reality - largely due to her personality/social media presence and the fact she's exciting to watch.

I'd expect Lottie Woad to surpass Charley's career win stats within 3 years.

Looks likely to be another second place despite starting the day in the lead.

Still a chance to come up with something special on 18 though...
