I knew by the time I was 10 years old that I fancied girls, I imagine it's the same with homosexuals; you're either gay, straight, or bisexual. A gay person can't choose to be straight any more than I could choose to be gay! Jesus, I've never read such a load of shit in my life. You've got to be on a wind up. I'd say the consequences of having it off with a bird when you're 16 and ending up bringing another life into the world are far more severe than experimenting with your sexuality. I usually consider you an uplifting and entertaining guy with a liberal point of view, but this post (which is largely a reply to mine) is filled with ridiculous "banter". Or maybe you took my general swing at things a bit too personal. "Marriage" in the traditional sense is a ritual that was created by man, based on religious grounds. First, it was a pagan invention, trying to bring man and woman closer, establishing a longer-lasting bond between the two. It was used and necessary in a time when men were likely to be involved in wars, unlikely to return from those and thus had to establish some kind of safety net for their immediate family. It was also used as a binding force between larger groups, e.g. clans. So, in that respect, marriage is indeed outdated. And yes, I think neanderthals were rather "uncivilized" in communicating with each other. Don't know whether they were using clubs to get the message across, though. Today, divorce rates are that high up because the individual no longer has the need to compromise in a relationship, because they don't like the partial influence of the church in that matter and because they no longer need the safety net of a legally binding contract between two people. One doesn't need to get married to enjoy a decent life. We have so many choices these days and life longer - what a contrast to more primitive days. Homosexuality is older than any religion. It is a natural occurrence, it occurs within a certain percentage of man. And nature was here before man. When I say that some people have tried to correct nature and put things right, I was thinking of the Nazis, for instance. They grabbed whatever opposition or minority they could find, including homosexuals, and put them away. If you dispose of my argument of a civilized culture as being "rubbish", I'm sorry. But we have indeed evolved, it's just that some backwater folks are desperately trying to cling on to their old-fashioned values. I'm not going to impose the things I believe in onto them. All I'm saying is that religion is outdated and the reason for many despicable incidents in the past and even today. The moment we all understand that using one "God" against another is just a waste of time, we'll truly be free in spirit.
