How can anyone not have given that a go in its day. The beauty and flexibility of Sci-Fi/Fantasy is that you can create new scenarios for what are essentially a few unique storylines.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 19 February 2013 Posted 19 February 2013 I do know kids who just won't watch old black and white films, despite there being so many great ones. Then a new movie will come out that shamelessly rips from classic old films and they think how brilliantly original it is.

It being sci-fi or fantasy doesn't change anything for the storyteller except give perhaps a little more wriggle room. There are I admit many, many bad, truly awful sci-fi/fantasy films, mainly because people have not used the wriggle room and just dressed up some banal story with some fancy effects and lighting in the hope that people won't notice. Yes, but a pedo would say raping a child is fantastic, but a) its subjective and everyone has different tastes and b) I wouldn't do that on principle either. Does that make me close minded?

I saw A Fistful of Dollars the other day. I thought it was decent enough but a bit outdated. I recommend Mike Basset England Manager, British comedy at its best.

If someone refuses to do something on principle, it doesn't matter how much fun it might be or how exhilarating or fulfilling etc. You can't mock someone for acting on principle. I have a lot of respect for those who act on principle and have the courage of their own convictions. If someone doesn't like sci fi and as a result doesn't watch sci fi on principle, someone who loves sci fi raving on about how good it is and mocking someone for not watching it, is hardly going to convince anyone and just looks more close-minded and single-tracked than the person they are trying to portray as such. Each to their own. I've never understood trying to get someone to enjoy something which they don't enjoy.

Bruno Ganz gives a sensational performance as the fuhrer.

Sci-fi might be ok for some but the problem is generally going to be avoiding the 35 year old virgin quotes that will come with your support of it. I'd imagine it's not worth it. Back to the Future was good, does that count as sci-fi? Never got into anything with 'Star' at the front.
