Agree with this. As I've said before, we're all human.

However if there is a larger number of a particular demographic being attacked, the police should devote a larger proportion of it's resources to that demographic accordingly.

Not really they just need to concentrate on catching the assailants on an individual basis . If it's an unprovoked attack , then that's just what it is. It doesn't matter what stupid distorted logic is given as an excuse , the attack on a frail pensioner, goth , muslim , gay person, or just because you happen to be Joe Bloggs in the wrtong place , you should be treated equally .

True enough, doing that shows a lack of common sense. But then if that person was mugged for his/her watch I'd expect the police to treat it as seriously as any other theft case.

I do think the two cases are a bit dissimilar though - I don't think dressing in that style is the same as walking into a dangerous district carrying a valuable item. I don't mind the police using demographics etc to prevent, target or solve crimes but I can't see why this should affect sentencing or judgement of the seriousness of the crime .

Why does it matter why someone got beaten up, why should it make a difference if a goth got beaten up for wearing black eyeliner, or average Joe beaten up because some thug wanted a fight?

Forget the victim focus on the criminal that does it, you give someone a kicking, you should get punished equally regardless of who you kicked the crap out of.

If they did it because of the way someone looks, at least there is some motive in there other than because they are an aggressive psychopathic thug.
