Carl the Llama Posted 24 April 2013 Posted 24 April 2013 Kin hell. A shitty, mass-produced lager considers itself upmarket? Jokers.
Guest MattP Posted 24 April 2013 Posted 24 April 2013 Or any students bar in Leicester. To be fair the stench from those generally come from the clientele.
ADK Posted 24 April 2013 Posted 24 April 2013 I guess if it makes people feel classy to pay £2 extra for a standard pint of mass produced piss then thats fair enough.
Webbo Posted 24 April 2013 Author Posted 24 April 2013 Probably shows what an absolute dive this place in Skeggy is then, we need pictures to be honest, could be worse than the Tavern and Lamplighters combined. http://www.travelrep...CFdDJtAod6WUA1g It's got a swimming pool and everything.
Guest MattP Posted 24 April 2013 Posted 24 April 2013 Well I've seen worse than that. Actually looks quite nice. Reminds me a little bit of the Scarlet Pimpernel.
flowwolf Posted 24 April 2013 Posted 24 April 2013 I guess if it makes people feel classy to pay £2 extra for a standard pint of mass produced piss then thats fair enough. But if it gets you a shag from an unclassy student then what's £2 .00 ? it's all relative. Students are mass produced too so what's the odds ?
pSinatra Posted 24 April 2013 Posted 24 April 2013 Well I've seen worse than that. Actually looks quite nice. Reminds me a little bit of the Scarlet Pimpernel. The Pimp on the Monsell? but it's got furniture that can be thrown or used as a weapon!!
Guest MattP Posted 24 April 2013 Posted 24 April 2013 The Pimp on the Monsell? but it's got furniture that can be thrown or used as a weapon!! Yep! Anyone know if it's still open? Every time I went in there I saw a fight. Used to be great on Thursday, geezer would come in about 10pm having robbed Borders and you can buy 4-5 dvd's off him for a quid, every week without fail, sure he was the reason they went bust.
flowwolf Posted 24 April 2013 Posted 24 April 2013 Yeah remember that pub , when ever the poilce arrive to arrest a local the drinkers used to sing " they seek him here they seek him there , they seek him every where "

Last time I went was about a year to 18 months ago........it had just had a refurb following a series of fights/drugs busts etc. I used to play them in a darts league & to be fair, the landlord put on a good spread for the players & was very welcoming. Rough as arses without feeling particularly dangerous. Not a place to impress a bird!! I don't think they sell Peroni?

I actually took a bird out I met in there. Was ok until she dropped the 'I forgot to tell you but I've got kids' line on me, best thing about it was you can take them to the High Cross for a posh meal in town (and I don't mean the shopping centre). The pool league was the same as the darts, cracking spread everytime we went in, sausage, chips, beans etc etc...couldn't knock it at all. What was the other boozer round there? Invincible? Another one absolutely rough as arses.
pSinatra Posted 24 April 2013 Posted 24 April 2013 The Invincible. Stood empty for years & demolished a while back.
Saxondale Posted 24 April 2013 Posted 24 April 2013 On a slightly related note, the company that owns Fat Cat has just gone into administration. If it stopped poncing around letting its bouncers be sniffy about who they let in, maybe they'd sell some ruddy drinks.

Guest Bilo Posted 24 April 2013 Posted 24 April 2013 The Crown isn't great to be fair. Southview and The Royal are more like it as hotels. I'm sure they sell Peroni by the bottle in Spoons as well....
scottthefox Posted 24 April 2013 Posted 24 April 2013 The Crown isn't great to be fair. Southview and The Royal are more like it as hotels. I'm sure they sell Peroni by the bottle in Spoons as well.... Correct, The Crown is an absolute dive. Southview and The Royal? You must be joking. The Savoy is the best hotel in Skeg by a mile. The rest of you lot slagging off Skeg can fvck off 'n all.
Haydos Posted 24 April 2013 Posted 24 April 2013 I repeat. Peroni is a bog standard beer. It's OK, but it's hardly the Dom Perignon of the beer world. If it was Rochefort No. 10 I'd understand it. That stuff would cause carnage in Skegness. God. I poured that stuff down my throat a few weeks back. I'm not usually one for 'proper' beers but you really can appreciate one this good.
absolutelegend Posted 25 April 2013 Posted 25 April 2013 Weird really, as peroni has to be one of the blandest, most tastless beers in the world. Just shows what effective ,marketing can do...
Guest Bilo Posted 25 April 2013 Posted 25 April 2013 God. I poured that stuff down my throat a few weeks back. I'm not usually one for 'proper' beers but you really can appreciate one this good. Have you tried Rochefort 6? Not quite as strong as 8 and 10, but it's very drinkable and has a nice light flavour. Now Rochefort are well within their rights to be selective about who they sell to, more so than bloody Peroni anyway.

The rest of you lot slagging off Skeg can fvck off 'n all. I've been to Southview with work a few times and always liked it; it's a nice hotel, if a little soulless. The Royal has a smashing restaurant attached to it as well. I must confess I haven't been to The Savoy in years though, so can't really compare.
Tielemans63 Posted 25 April 2013 Posted 25 April 2013 The Invincible. Stood empty for years & demolished a while back. Bit ironic that really.
Captain... Posted 25 April 2013 Posted 25 April 2013 Peroni has only really become a staple in the last few years, it used to be fairly exclusive and not often found on draught, but now it is everywhere, I do like Peroni draught, much better than any of the typical English lagers, and normally sets me on my way pretty quick. I don't get why they would be sniffy about who sells it, a sale is a sale and as has been pointed out, Peroni is not an exclusive rare exotic lager any more, if I was a shareholder I would be pissed off that they would refuse to distribute it on such spurious grounds.
1964FOX Posted 25 April 2013 Posted 25 April 2013 The Invincible. Stood empty for years & demolished a while back. Sad to see this picture as it was a great pub which, as stated, is now sadly gone and they are now rebuilding on the site. The Pimp was also a regular of mine back in the day used to have some great disco night on there and yes there was inevitably always a fight of some sort. Ah the good old days on th Monsell.

If you're with work then Southview is probably the best option to be honest with it being out of town hence away from the holiday makers. I don't like The Royal simply cause the bloke who owns it is a right dodgy bugger, keeps going in to administration then starting up a new company etc. try the Savoy next time you're in town
