I went to Foleshill road to get some indian food, not ''eat in'' just to collect - it is Coventry not Leicester but that road in particular is an absolute dive, it's like you are walking down the street in a 3rd world poverty stricken country.

Wales?????We're getting there my friend

Coventry is a total dump - my grandparents used to live around Foleshill Road, and genuinely it's one of the worst parts I've ever seen.

Totally disagree, majority of my family live in Leicester, they much chose to come wine, dine, and enjoy in Notts.

I was in Leicester over Xmas, during the period it was relatively dead at night.  So we all caught a train and went there instead.  Notts has so many layers, it's got WB, Beeston, Ruddington, Sneinton all easily to get to by tram or walking etc

It's all subjective to an extent. I actually live in Beeston - good proper pubs but not really much else. West Bridgford pretends to be all classy but it's pretty generic, big houses, big cars, small streets, middle classers, and chain restaurants. It also has terrible public transport. Never understood why colleagues buy house 50% more market value haha -  well I do, it's the "status" and "the school" which also seems to not be as good anymore!

I do. I eat lots of places. I'm talking about proper authentic Indian food. Not the rubbish from chains and curry houses where you drink 5 Cobras and 20 poppadum etc. Leicester is the Curry Capital.

The samosas there are Punjabi style so basically potatoes and spices. Leicester samosas have mixed veg - yum yum - you should try them - recommend:

Bhojalram

41 Melton Rd, Leicester LE4 6PN

Lived in notts for 10 years (with a couple of years abroad between) and the decline of Notts and improvement of Leicester has been pretty stark. If you’d have asked me in 2015 then Nottingham was comfortably better but now I think the only thing Notts has over Leicester is the music scene, the gig venues are better there. In terms of everything else (pubs, restaurants, things to do), Leicester has improved a lot and is often bustling.

In the midlands alone I’d put Leicester above Derby, Stoke, Cov, Wolverhampton, most of Birmingham and on a par with Nottingham. It’s really not that bad.

Nottingham is miles better for pubs. Probably twice the number of pubs in the city centre and the median pub is better there as well.

Which pubs in the centre do you recommend?

I've got indian family so well travelled on the samosa front. I'm always on the hunt for a good stuffed paratha though

In Leicester with a high Asian population you can find authentic cuisines all styles such as South India, Mumbai, Punjabi, Gujrati. It is good because Indian people eat there!

Punjabi food in the UK is just big mixed grills for Insta, not much more to it...

Plenty of good examples on the Golden Mile and increasingly in the city centre.

Although feel free to enjoy a bowl Tamatanga and swinging at Mowgli in Nottingham if that is your fancy ;).

Ok, I eat on the golden mile/Leicester probably about every 2-3 weeks, there ok, nothing magic that I would lick my fingers to death, hence why I ask.

I grew up with alot of the owners kids and my dad did alot of business with those restaurants including Bobby's, Sharmilees, Blue Peter.  Also knew the original chart house an old hot potato shop

Tamatanga and Mowgli are chains not Nottingham brands, so try again.

What are the good ones in Nottingham out of interest, because I'm yet to find one... Please don't say The Emerald because I want more than just a dry mixed grill :D. I've done Cumin, Calcutta Club, 4450 Miles from Delhi, Mem Saab, and Anoki - all decent enough, but expensive and pretty standard fare.

I've been to the Mem Saab there and thought it was decent, especially the ostrich and lamb chop starters - main was ok to good, but like you say, prices are a bit ££
