lavrentis Posted 6 June 2013 Posted 6 June 2013 Thought I'd make this into a general thread but I'm going to Beacon Hill soon, for the first time. Anyone thats been is it any good?
Foxfromburbage Posted 7 June 2013 Posted 7 June 2013 Take a picnic - not much to do - but a nice bit of countryside. Only ever been on windy wet days.
promised land Posted 7 June 2013 Posted 7 June 2013 If you're going to wander about then stay off the cycle track, the closest one to the road. The footpath runs parallel to it but the amount of walkers you see on the cycle track is unreal.
MikeyT Posted 7 June 2013 Posted 7 June 2013 Been there a couple of times for photography purposes. As said above, not a lot there though.
SystonFox Posted 7 June 2013 Posted 7 June 2013 It's a country park where people go for walks and picnics? What were you all expecting... Something to rival the new ride at Alton towers?
Finnegan Posted 7 June 2013 Posted 7 June 2013 Beacon Hill isn't a "day out", really. Along with Bradgate and Swithland it's a nice place but you're only going to be there a couple of hours. Bit longer with good company and weather but still. I appreciate the thread title was Leicestershire but if you want a nice day out in good country then a short trip to Edale and/or the Derwent Valley gives you some nice, easy walking.
ADK Posted 7 June 2013 Posted 7 June 2013 It's not very big on it's own, just a hill. If you include more of the surrounding area and a pub or two then it's a pretty nice area of Leicestershire.
Webbo Posted 7 June 2013 Posted 7 June 2013 We went to Beacon Hill at the bank holiday. Not that much to see really, 2 or 3 hours max. Mind the cow pats. Btw Watermead country park is a lovely place to go.
FoxesAreBlue Posted 7 June 2013 Posted 7 June 2013 Btw Watermead country park is a lovely place to go. Ran through this on the Leicester Marathon, couldn't believe I had never heard of it before - its beaut as well.
