Days out in Leicestershire

If you're going to wander about then stay off the cycle track, the closest one to the road. The footpath runs parallel to it but the amount of walkers you see on the cycle track is unreal.

It's a country park where people go for walks and picnics? What were you all expecting... Something to rival the new ride at Alton towers?

Beacon Hill isn't a "day out", really. Along with Bradgate and Swithland it's a nice place but you're only going to be there a couple of hours. Bit longer with good company and weather but still.

I appreciate the thread title was Leicestershire but if you want a nice day out in good country then a short trip to Edale and/or the Derwent Valley gives you some nice, easy walking.

It's not very big on it's own, just a hill. If you include more of the surrounding area and a pub or two then it's a pretty nice area of Leicestershire.

We went to Beacon Hill at the bank holiday. Not that much to see really, 2 or 3 hours max. Mind the cow pats.

Btw Watermead country park is a lovely place to go.
