GDP up by 0.8%.

Ed Balls Sky News Interview from earlier was not to be missed.

I'll put it up when it's on Youtube. He was sweating like food bank visitor who had just seen his gas bill.

"But you were wrong weren't you Ed? Why don't you just admit it? It's no shame" lol

It's a prediction so might not happen, but there does seem to be a growing optimism about the next few years.

True if you dismiss reports of what is happening to the less well off as leftist gossip and only believe what the Tories are saying..

I prefer to look at contrasting views and arrive at something in the middle.

It was an article about the economy primarily about buisness confidence, I'm sure there are plenty of people who aren't optimistic at all but that isn't what the article is about.

Maybe people in business are happy about the news but it is little comfort for a disabled person who has had the disabilility allowance suspended and has been told there is a 12 week wait to sort it out.

I guess now that the economy is doing so well we can expect the Tories to announce large above inflation increases in JSA and other benefits along with public sector pay and pensions.

Why on earth would they want to do that? If you've got a huge surplus (which they haven't - the economy =/= public finances), then decrease tax by all means. The last thing we want is more welfare spending and more cushy public sector non-jobs.

I'm just pointing this out as during the recession the Tories would tell us that public sector pay had to fall and benefits had to be cut because private sector wages were rising below inflation and we should all be in it together. Well if that logic holds true, then we should see the opposite happen when the private sector is doing well.

Of course it was a rhetorical question. We both know the Tories simply used the recession as cover for ideological cuts to public spending.

Pretty sure the reason given for wanting to cut spending was the huge public debt. Recession or not, the debt needs to be paid down.

I'll believe we are in it together when IDS falls behind with the mortgage of one of his houses.

Why would he do that ? To most of us, paying bills like mortgage and utilities is the priority. Booze, fags and laptops are luxuries, if there is any money left over.

Here's a question though. If IDS become homeless, would he automatically become the personification of virtue itself like all the other tramps?

assumptions again. i did not mention that he would be homeless. Those with mortgages are feeling the pinch.

marriage breakdown

bereavement

Loss of job

Redundancy

Depression

Mental breakdown

Abusive relationship

Domestic violence

Just a few causes which do not involve drugs or booze

No , he would need to go through the normal baptism of being pissed on in St. Martin's Square on the coldest night of the year.

There's no favourite treatment for anyone !!

What if like most reasonable people he has set aside resources in the form of savings and aquired valuable skills so that even in the event that one or more of those things were to occur, he is still able to keep up with his mortgage payments? Would this make him immoral? Do people have to lack personal responsibility and life-planning skills before they can be considered "in it together" with you?

I'll be jiggling my baubles around St Martins Square this December looking to spread some of my own special gluwine on the poor to put some warmth into those who need it the most.
