Captain... Posted 30 July 2013 Posted 30 July 2013 It's the supermarkets choosing to cover the magazines up, nothing to do with the government. Support Cameron trying to outlaw rape/child porn, nothing wrong with that. Not something I would impose but if it's just a phone call to get the filters off I'm not going to break down in tears, he has got far bigger things to worry from what I saw last weekend in London with what's on it's way from Romania. But this is not going to have any impact on illegal porn, it is not going to make any difference to the trade of illegal images and videos. That is why it is just another populist policy that sounds good as a headline but means nothing, it doesn't have the support of internet providers, and any parent with an ounce of computer savvy knows how to put filters on their computer. So what is Cameron actually doing to tackle illegal images and videos?

I'm sure he would gain some support from internet providers on child porn, if they don't he should name and shame. All politics is is populist policies anyway nowadays, you voted for the Liberal Democrats last time but you couldn't seriously believe they would have provided free tuition fees etc with our economic position. Governments will be lying their asses off in 2015 with the state of the country.
Kitchandro Posted 30 July 2013 Posted 30 July 2013 I'm not sure what any of this has to do with child porn though. Even in what he says he's not really on about it, he just wants to 'protect' children from seeing bog standard porn.

Governments will be lying their asses off in 2015 with the state of the country. I believed them when they said they wouldn't vote to raise tuition fees, and that they would investigate the feasibility of scrapping tuition fees, they never promised to scrap them. The problem is not so much that they are populist policies, but that they don't think it through release it in a bit of a bluster and very often have to make a u-turn as soon as it comes under any scrutiny. The latest one being the cigarette packaging. A list of the U-turns up to Feb this year (yes I know it is in the guardian) it just shows that either the government has no backbone and crumbles under any sort of pressure, or its policies are so badly thought out that they just don't hold up to any sort of scrutiny. Personally I think it is both. Edit: With the link http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2012/may/31/coalition-u-turns-full-list
Guest MattP Posted 30 July 2013 Posted 30 July 2013 Can we keep Guardian/Indy links etc in Ken's threads? Let's try and keep the political articles neutral.

Fine Telegraph article of 37 government u-turns, but not as recent as the guardian. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/9617519/37-coalition-climbdowns-u-turns-and-row-backs.html

Are U-turns a bad thing though? Some would say it's good to see a government listen to people when they think they might have got it wrong?
sphericalfox Posted 30 July 2013 Posted 30 July 2013 Good stuff, interesting read. Are U-turns a bad thing though? Some would say it's good to see a government listen to people when they think they might have got it wrong? Sounds like throwing shit and seeing if any of it will stick. Or distracting the public with enough exaggerated plans so that you can push through the legislation or plans unabated on the side whilst the public are picking their arse.
Rincewind Posted 30 July 2013 Posted 30 July 2013 Shit sticks to shit which is not very good for those that it is aimed at.
ADK Posted 30 July 2013 Author Posted 30 July 2013 Well basically if it's a political party you like then it's a good thing and if it's a political party you don't like then it shows they are clueless and have no spine. I thought that was obvious.
