Job Agent boasts about stopping benefits on Twitter

II have heard of people having their money stopped for being ten minutes late. And what if a persons child takes ill? Are they supposed to leave them? or if a child carer fails to show? These people still have their only income stopped and this woman is typical of the ones that stereo type and fall for the myths put out by sections of the media.

I hope she is sacked and refused benefits when she struggles to find another job.

The world is full of ifs and buts Ken. I know you are passionate in what you say, and good for you, but possibly you should also look at the other side of the coin. You don't appear to be aware of people who constantly abuse such systems.

I have to agree that we disagree  about many things, but I respect your views, and am sure you are sincere. I believe the bedroom tax is a very good thing, overall. I know a few people who refuse to move into smaller properties offered them locally, when they have bedrooms not in use. Is that fair to others who need those rooms?

I have no problem hitting hard those that abuse the system or avoid paying taxes. What I found wrong wiyh this woman is how she got joy out of stopping benefits. Many have had money stopped who are on minimum wage and have very little income. They then can fall behind with rent and be evicted. I do not find that to be something to dance with joy over especially if there are young children involved. Compassion costs nothing. I would say many of the staff try and help their clients but centres have targets to meet with the sanctioning. It is not what she did but the way she said those things. By her attitude to a few I would guess she had the same misconceptions as many others do.

There is already too much stereotyping in this country.

And that is my final word on the matter.

Close the topic if you wish.

If there aren't enough one beds to house the huge number of people currently living in oversized properties, surely the solution is to make individuals share the larger properties? A lot of full time workers have to live in shared houses. Absolutely no reason why your typical hand out receiver can't share too. Problem solved.

People with spare rooms should be made to let them out to people... you got any room at Moose Towers? :D

Yeah loads. I pay for that though so I can do what I want with it. Only people whose spare rooms are paid for by the tax payer should be made to share.

People not turning up for interviews have no one to blame but themselves if they lose some of their benefit payments.

The girl who appears to have lost her job recruiting people has no one to blame but herself for her predicament.

Whilst compassion costs nothing, the Welfare bill is huge and I'd rather my taxes go to assist others who genuinely need a helping hand rather than those who have no intention of making their lot better.

We advertised two jobs recently and decided to look at local long term unemployed candidates to offer someone a chance to break the cycle. Out of 16 interviews only 3 people turned up, not one rang in to say there was a problem. Everyone knew the wages and hours (well above minimum wage and 9-5 with possible overtime) before applying. When the job centre contact us, are the apologists on here saying that I should show compassion and say they all turned up, I'm certainly not inclined to.

Fair point. Most benefit claimers are broadly comparable to Mr Philpott. Finally we agree on something.

Rincewind, you do realise people who actually own their houses don't have to offer the rooms out yes?

One warehouse, one office.

When I was unemployed, I would have killed for either of those jobs. I think it shows that quite a lot of people aren't interested/have no intention of working.

Of course I am'. And by law do you realise a person does not have to accept one offered if it means they are going to be at risk or the conditions are unsatisfactory for their needs or health?

Of course, that's why councils have to get the properties signed off before offering them to people.

Maybe if the people getting them arent happy we could do some sort of portfolio where people who need the taxpayer to pay for their housing can get a catalogue and design their own place so it's completely suitable for them?

We could shut down the NHS to pay for it.

I know someone who would be happy to move to a smaller council house but there simply arent very many about, apparantly she has to go on a website at midnight (if she has anychance of getting one), she has no computer and cant afford one.  And there's no question there are plenty of people who have been unjustly punished by this tax.  Of course when something like this is introduced and I understand the reasoning behind it its impossible to please everyone, but there are parts of the tax that are inherently unfair that has to be addressed I hope they will be.

I find it strange that whether your a tory or not that its blindly being defended.

I heard today that as more and news comes out about how hard more and more people are being hit the anti-tax lobby will grow. The majoriyu of people do not realise how unfair some aspects of the BT is and how many hard working families it had affected until they are themselves.

It isn't really a tax though is it? These people could fix their problems by getting jobs or cutting their spending.

A great number of those affected are from WORKING households already on a tight budget.

If you have a job and claim benefits aswell and still can't stay on budget then i think that is the problem.
