Guest shearfox Posted 8 October 2013 Posted 8 October 2013 Is Harry Redknapp still the last English manager to win a domestic trophy in England? That's a genuine question as well. If you mean a major domestic trophy, then yes.
Guest MattP Posted 8 October 2013 Posted 8 October 2013 The standard of English managers is absolutely appalling. When you consider by league position that Sean Dyche is the 5th highest ranked English manager in the country, then something's gone seriously wrong. That is a frightening statistic.
Dan Posted 8 October 2013 Posted 8 October 2013 That is a frightening statistic. Admittedly it's not taking into account your managers without a job, as well as Roy Hodgson, and the likes of Redknapp, Pearson & Adkins who will probably still finish above him. I find the fact Pardew is in the top four to be disturbing. In-fact, the only four of the top flight are Bruce, Holloway, Pardew & Allardyce. It's disgraceful.
Uncle Albert Posted 8 October 2013 Posted 8 October 2013 If you mean a major domestic trophy, then yes. Well I'm not counting the Johnstones Paint Trophy or a Play Off trophy when discussing managers for England..
Stadt Posted 8 October 2013 Posted 8 October 2013 How do Scotland produce do many managers? At one point there was 8 Scottish managers in the prem.

Super_horns Posted 8 October 2013 Posted 8 October 2013 Who knows what he would be like as manager but I suspect Redknapp would have selected the same old names as such - he isn't one for blooding youngsters I don't think.

Redknapp would have struggled, if you look back at his squads he had for Spurs and Portsmouth he mainly had mature players with bags of experience. The youngers as you say wouldn't get through and Redknapp would consist on picking the old guard all time. Trust me Hodgson is better than Redknapp, though i don't think much to Hodgson anymore.

Given the senior players apparently texted him saying they were desperate for him to be appointed I doubt he'd have been quick to move them on.

Uncle Albert Posted 10 October 2013 Posted 10 October 2013 Anyone else just watched the England press conference? Steven Gerrard has come out and said he didn't text Harry Redknapp about him getting the England job, he spoke to his good friend Jamie Redknapp and said if Redknapp got the job then all the England players would support him.
Guest MattP Posted 10 October 2013 Posted 10 October 2013 It's absolutely amazing anyone still believes a word that comes out of Harry's mouth.

Only a day after he told TalkSport he probably wasn't cut out for the England job anyway.
