MooseBreath Posted 3 November 2013 Posted 3 November 2013 http://m.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-24786397 Typical Labour move, throwing a bone to the poor to get their votes without actually helping them to address their long term problem of a lack of valuable skills. Only this time instead of their usual plan to borrow until kingdom come to pay for it, they reckon private businesses will be queuing up to just give money away. On another planet, or what.
The God Emperor Posted 3 November 2013 Posted 3 November 2013 Big governments solution to problems created by big government. the cycle of debt, inflation and force continues, hurting the poor vulnerable most.
Benji Posted 3 November 2013 Posted 3 November 2013 [insert Foxestalk standard the left / the right accusation brush.] Would be interesting though to dig a bit deeper into this - for example to see how it would be proposed to tie in with NI etc. Struggling to see the incentive for businesses though if they only get to recover a third of the cost of rises and after that one year, they'll continue to pay 100% of the new higher wage.
Webbo Posted 3 November 2013 Posted 3 November 2013 Would the tax break be counted as tax avoidance, which we all know is to blame for this country's problems? Also what's to stop the businesses raising wages and laying some people off to pay for it?
purpleronnie Posted 3 November 2013 Posted 3 November 2013 Never fails to amaze, criticise everything the left does, back anything the right does.

Also what's to stop the businesses raising wages and laying some people off to pay for it? this is whats going to happen. the only companies that could afford to do this are the 'too big to fail' gang. all this policy will do is strengthen the position of big business by offering them another special favour and will make small businesses less able to compete unless they lay off staff.
Webbo Posted 3 November 2013 Posted 3 November 2013 Never fails to amaze, criticise everything the left does, back anything the right does. It's because right wing people tend to agree with right wing policies and disagree with left wing policies.

I know that but its constant, surely theres policies that your party has that you don't like or agree with. and do agree with the left on some issues? But those never get posted. Just comes across as mindless bias.

Danizen Posted 3 November 2013 Posted 3 November 2013 How the hell can he think this is a good idea? The wages will go back down the day the tax relief ends which will just cause more turmoil for these families. Common sense says they should put this extra money away but you can guarantee they won't. They will buy all kinds of shit on finance and have catastrophic money problems when the gravy train departs. This is why I don't vote. It's just a constant cycle. Say whatever you think will get you elected and/or wait for the floating voters to get disillusioned with the incumbent, get elected, use your new power to look after your friends, blame all the country's problems on the previous government and promise you will do all you can to fix them (after the next election, of course), lose election...repeat.
leicsmac Posted 3 November 2013 Posted 3 November 2013 It works both ways. Yep, refusal to compromise at all and absolutism is the sign of a deeply flawed personal ideology. It's not being strong if you can't negotiate on any issue whatsoever, it's being obstinate, whether your alignment is left or right. Regarding the article itself...sounds like Miliband doing his best to ensure a hung Parliament in 2015 again. Wonderful stuff.

It could just be that some of us can see the holes in the plan and want to point them out. Although you're probably correct about the lefties.

Although you're probably correct about the lefties. : But in all seriousness, pointing out the obvious flaws in this idea is fair enough but I've get to see much criticism of the current Governments approach on anything from the right wingers on here, other than sometimes saying they're not going far enough. There Isn't enough even-handed criticism from both left and right on here, but I guess that's a mirror for political opinion as a whole. People get blinded.
Strokes Posted 3 November 2013 Posted 3 November 2013 Why not just raise the tax threshold to bring up their wages to a livable standard. I could be way off but any party who pledges to help relieve motorists of the cost in running a motor vehicle, would win alot of votes.
ADK Posted 3 November 2013 Posted 3 November 2013 It's good to see labour doing something that actually benefits working people as oppose to people who do not work.
