Guest MattP Posted 7 November 2013 Posted 7 November 2013 Does he still vote for them? There were an awful lot of protest voters voting Lib Dem last time out who clearly had no idea what a liberal is or what the party actually stood for. Always has always will, he liked Paddy Ashdown and has done since. He wouldn't be able to define Liberal, I honestly believe at least 50% of people who vote actually have no idea who or what they are voting for.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 7 November 2013 Posted 7 November 2013 When a few hundred votes spread over 10 or 15 constituencies can mean the difference between and losing an election you're obviously going to try to get as many votes as you can any way you can. I know Labour voters who read the Mail and a Tory voters who read the Mirror. Just because you read a certain paper doesn't mean you believe/agree with everything in it. Very true.
Mike the Metal Ed Posted 7 November 2013 Posted 7 November 2013 Just watch Question Time. 5 panelists every week, always 3 left leaning, 2 right leaning. Even when they go to places like Cambridge and Oxford they manage to find an audience full of Trade Unionists. Did exactly the same, I'll put Labour next time. I haven't watched the last few weeks, but I'm actually surprised it's appeared to be split this way. Especially since the Coalition came to government, the split had seemed to be 3-2 the other way most weeks, I've seen plenty of episodes where the only "left" panelists are one Labour MP, sometimes of dubious left-wing status and a comedian/actor, and those in the arts tend to be liberally-minded. My dad is a dyed in the wool Tory and had to decline his invitation to be in the audience in Nottingham once, whereas my one attempt to join the audience in Leicester was rejected. I guess they've had no trouble finding Tories/Kippers in Lincolnshire, hence you struggled to get in due to the mixed demographic they aim for.

Come on, they might be in a coalition but you can't say that now makes the Liberal right wingers when they appear on QT. I'm from and live in Leicestershire, not Lincoln. I suppose it depends how 'left wing' you actually are, I know a guy who thinks it's stacked with fascists but he's alongside George Galloway when it comes to politics.

I'm referring only to Orange Booker Lib Dems, or ministers who have to be seen to push the government's agenda. Of course some Lib Dems can tip the scales the other way, but few in the "in government" era do.
Dr The Singh Posted 7 November 2013 Posted 7 November 2013 The guy in our pub who is always shouting about "pak*s" etc every Friday is a Liberal Democrat voter, beat that. Lovely pub you drink in, when you are you going to invite me for drink in there?????
Guest MattP Posted 7 November 2013 Posted 7 November 2013 Lovely pub you drink in, when you are you going to invite me for drink in there????? Anytime you want, the guy I'm talking about is actually a sikh. I didn't want to mention that in the original point as I didn't think it had anything to do with it.
ADK Posted 7 November 2013 Posted 7 November 2013 Always has always will, he liked Paddy Ashdown and has done since. He wouldn't be able to define Liberal, I honestly believe at least 50% of people who vote actually have no idea who or what they are voting for. You could be right there. My Grandmother always votes Tory because she adored Thatcher while my Grandfather always votes labour because he is "working class". Neither could probably tell you a single party policy. Both voted no to AV but had absolutely no idea what it was and I doubt either could correctly explain what FPTP is.

I didn't want to mention that in the original point as I didn't think it had anything to do with it. That makes more sense. It is perfectly acceptable for a Sikh to be racist towards Muslims. After all, the standard UK definition of racism requires the racist to be white.

I made a comment about a man making racist comments and everyone automatically assumed he was white? I've got as many Sikh mates as White and virtually every one of them can't stand Muslims and they feel comfortable enough to air it.

Guest MattP Posted 7 November 2013 Posted 7 November 2013 Where???? I don't think that's the case mate, a spade is a spade!! Racist!

Saying that we are pre-disposed to process info on a majority status, whites being the majority!!!
Guest MattP Posted 7 November 2013 Posted 7 November 2013 Very true, i assumed he was white!!!! Saying that we are pre-disposed to process info on a majority status, whites being the majority!!! I went on a Stag do earlier this year and about 30% of us were Sikh, you lot are ten times worse at everything from racism to drinking in my experience.
Dr The Singh Posted 7 November 2013 Posted 7 November 2013 Racist! Me and him I went on a Stag do earlier this year and about 30% of us were Sikh, you lot are ten times worse at everything from racism to drinking in my experience. Even shagging??
Guest MattP Posted 7 November 2013 Posted 7 November 2013 Even shagging?? You seem to get your fair share
Dr The Singh Posted 7 November 2013 Posted 7 November 2013 You seem to get your fair share I wish that were true (talking about me personally), statues get more action then me!
ADK Posted 7 November 2013 Posted 7 November 2013 Where???? I don't think that's the case mate, a spade is a spade!! It's just the feeling I get. I don't think people are on the look out for one minority being racist towards another. I wasn't implying it's ok or that Sikhs are necessarily more likely to be racist. Simply that it is often overlooked while a white person could see themselves hauled off to jail. In my mind the person MattP was talking about was definitely white.
MooseBreath Posted 7 November 2013 Posted 7 November 2013 'Racism' as this huge social issue is mainly perpetuated by white apologists. The kind of people who live in vast majority white areas and who have only white friends, and who feel compelled to denounce the merest hint of a racial suggestion as racism. Blatant racists themselves, of course, with their patronising "oh I must stand up for the defenseless little ethnics" attitude. Those people would be in for the shock of their lives should they ever come into contact with your average non-white with their regular casual racism.
