Trav Le Bleu Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 I like Lamby, he is against 14 year old kids getting married and only gets his todger out for girls and work mates with pubes. I will never take seriously someone that thinks its ok for 14 year old kids to be married... CPF has a 3rd world/C4 mentality.
James. Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 Speaking English would be a good start, it's nuisance having to ask 4/5 people in an area of your capital before getting an answer. Understand it if I'm outside Bcukingham Palace or the Tate Modern but not here. Show your face, it's polite and we do that. Have the local shopkeepers there stocking English newspapers and again speak English. Don't spit Khat out along the street at 3pm, don't stock extremist Islamic literature in the local libraries that are open to all, don't sweep an increased level of violence towards people base on sexual orientation under the carpet.Don't enforce councillors to have join in Ramdan despite not being Muslim. That said, I'm avoiding he area at all costs now anyway so its not going to effect me in the future. I've lived in Tower Hamlets for most of the past 4 years and spend lots of time strolling around Whitechapel, Bethnal Green and Brick Lane to name just a few areas of the borough. I can honestly say I've never faced any of the so called issues you raise in your post. I wonder if I've been lucky or if maybe you're a little too sensitive to this sort of thing. After all you seem to be making sweeping generalisations based on your limited experiences without really understanding the area. Firstly the population of Tower Hamlets is 53% white. Where were you finding it so hard to find someone who spoke English? Even if we make the ridiculous assumption that every single non-white person doesn't speak English to find 4-5 people in a row involves odds of about 43-1... you should have gone down the bookies and put a bet on at those odds! As for newspapers I simply don't believe you couldn't find an English newspaper. Just where were you?! They're bloody everywhere. That said if there was a shop that stocked non English newspapers I would argue that's partly due to satisfying a local demand from the Bangladeshi community which is obviously the next most prominent ethnic group after us whities. Spitting khat out at 3pm? Are you sure it was khat? That's an East African / Arabian thing... maybe you mean paan? Either way I think you did pretty well to spot it. Agree it's disgusting but as is all the white chavs that hang around the north side of Victoria Park gobbing phlegm all over the streets. At least their white though I suppose. The Islamic literature is old news isn't it? Pretty sure they've addressed that. Similar thing with the Ramadan point... in fact this was probably some white guy who thought he was being culturally sensitive by telling everyone to not eat in front of Muslims. This isn't a "British" thing unless you argue that us Brits are becoming far too sensitive and yeah I'd agree but that's our fault not the Muslims. Sexual violence? Are we talking about a few stickers put up about a gay free zone? Not exactly Shariah law is it? Genuinely interested in this point as you seem to suggest there's more to it though... what do you know? It's a shame you're avoiding Tower Hamlets in its entirety Matt. Victoria Park is in my opinion the most beautiful park in London. Some of the best Indian food you'll find in the country is dished up in the Whitechapel / Aldgate area. Regents Canal is excellent for an autumnal stroll. There's some proper East End boozers all across the area including the wonderful Palm Tree in Mile End. York Hall puts on some top boxing events. You'll always get a proper night out in Shoreditch. And I almost forgot about Canary Wharf... I could go on but feels like you've already made your mind up.
Guest MattP Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 Good post and a good defence of the area. I can only go on what I've experienced though and I found the place disgusting, I'll make an effort to get to Victoria Park next time. Maybe I'm looking for what I want to see. No need for the 'at least they are white' comment - Numerous times on here Ive stated its mainly the whites doing this in Leicester and it's disgusting.
James. Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 Maybe I'm looking for what I want to see. That was pretty much the point I was trying to make. I'm not saying that it's perfect. It's one of the poorest boroughs in the country nevermind London. It has problems, no doubt some of them related to poor integration. There's also been high profile issues relating to what goes on in East London Mosque. I just think to tar an entire area on the basis of some pretty limited experiences does the area an injustice.

To be honest I didn't realise the area was that big, done a few nights out in Hoxton Square and around Shoreditch and been to York Hall on numerous occasions, had no idea that was actually Tower Hamlets. I've clearly based my assumptions on the absolute shithole parts of it.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 Pipped to the post by Adolf Hitler though eh? Are you naturally ignorant, or do you have to work at it? Pipped at the post by Winston Churchill, if you are really interested, which I doubt.
purpleronnie Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 Are you naturally ignorant, or do you have to work at it? Pipped at the post by Winston Churchill, if you are really interested, which I doubt. He would never beat Hitler in a race.
Jimothy Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 He would never beat Hitler in a race. He would, most people would, Hitler didn't like races.
purpleronnie Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 He would, most people would, Hitler didn't like races. Well he liked one.
Jimothy Posted 5 November 2013 Posted 5 November 2013 Well he liked one. Yeah, but he wasn't very good at leading it.
I am Rod Hull Posted 6 November 2013 Author Posted 6 November 2013 Nope you are just going to the wrong parts, Spain is a great country, the food, the wine, the cider, the fiestas, the siestas, the life style the countryside, the beaches, it shits all over England. Obviously if you go to a place full of drunk holidaymakers you're going to think it's crap, but guess what, that is because of the English and other tourists being dicks. Edit: You can add the football, the women, the cost of living to that list as well. RACIST!
Captain... Posted 6 November 2013 Posted 6 November 2013 RACIST! When did you turn into a broing troll?
Trav Le Bleu Posted 6 November 2013 Posted 6 November 2013 You can't judge a persons personality on the colour of their skin, the place they were born, their sex, their age, their wealth, their health, their intelligence, their height, or their hair-colour. There's probably other things besides. You can judge a person based on your experience of them. Not your experience of people they grew up with, or their family, or their their national group - though these will be affecting factors - you can only judge a person on your experience of them. Anything else, by simple definition of the word, is prejudice. The fact is that if you treat people in a certain way, then they will tend towards that way. Unfortunately, very few people have the wherewithall to stand out and be a true individual (if this wasn't true then branding and advertising would be a waste of time), so where people stand out from marginalised communities, it is rare. If you treat people as though they are worthless, chances are they will act in a worthless way. If you keep yourself apart from people, how are they ever going to adopt your values? We are all born equal - it is what happens to us after that - what is imprinted by society - that makes the person. Which is what you can judge a person on; but you don't know any of that until you get to know that person - that individual - so you, or me, can make no judgement on any person we meet for the first time. Naturally, as I have banged on, we are all human and therefore subject to being a bit crappy and falling short of perfection, so of course even with the best will in the world you look at someone and think, "he/she looks a bit dodgy", but so long as you're not thinking that because a person has a particular colour, nationality, sex, etc, then you're not racist, you're just human.
Rincewind Posted 6 November 2013 Posted 6 November 2013 Good and intellegent post Trav. You are talking my language. It will do some good on here to meet and get to know certaing groups of people before making wild assunptions.
Tielemans63 Posted 6 November 2013 Posted 6 November 2013 If you're talking about the erosion of British culture then I would say that immigration has undoubtedly had an impact however I do think the extent to which it has is often overstated - I agree with CPF that we are largely to blame ourselves for disregarding our own heritage. Whilst immigration has been very poorly regulated and many migrants have treated Britain as a cash cow, I genuinely believe the media have blown it out of all proportion. It's a problem but not the epidemic some media outlets would have us believe. I think a large factor in the gradual dissolution of English culture is down to the rampant capitalism that swept the country in the 80's and 90's. I'm not some anti-capitalist (I have much to thank capitalism for) but I'm realistic and when the markets and economies became globalised we were left open to and then saturated by other cultures (particularly American) that had been relatively alien until then. I'm convinced that globalisation has been the biggest killer of culture. Over the last 20/30 years the major countries have become increasingly homogenised so there's barely any differentiating between cultures anymore. We've ditched many of our greatest cultural events in favour of Americanised 'traditions' like baby showers (wtf). Why? Because the stuff we used to do isn't profitable or cool and anyway, we don't have time for that shit because we all work 50 hours a week. A very gradual and almost unnoticeable period of cultural imperialism has killed off much of our heritage - much more so than immigration IMHO.
Dr The Singh Posted 6 November 2013 Posted 6 November 2013 I'm proud of British culture, i'm also proud of sikh-punjabi culture both live side by side comfortably. The issue we have a culture which no-one is interested in, how many people celebrate st georges compared to say st paddy's. If people are so worried about there culture, do something about celebrating it, rather then moaning. There's positives and negatives to immigration and types of people it brings, quantiyfing it is difficult, being a 3rd gen, I wouldn't want to be compared or clumped with indians, pakistanis or blacks
Zingari Posted 7 November 2013 Posted 7 November 2013 I think people continually mistake blaming social and economic problems on uncontrolled immigration to mean blaming immigrants individually. Immigrants as individuals can be good or bad. Immigration can be good or bad . What we've witnessed is a very bad immigration policy for the lower classes , or a very good one for those that want a large pool of cheap labour . Just my opinion though.
MooseBreath Posted 7 November 2013 Posted 7 November 2013 Reports out today saying we're going to see a 10m increase in population by 2035 due to immigrant birth rates
The People's Hero Posted 7 November 2013 Posted 7 November 2013 Maybe time to start putting sterilisation drugs in cheap frozen chicken nuggets and those rustlers burgers
