ithuriel Posted 31 December 2013 Posted 31 December 2013 Savage was just a squad player mostly for us in that era, the two first teamers in our usual three man midfield were Izzet and Lennon. Always saw Savage as a replacement for Scott Taylor who picked up an injury that ruined his career, where peeps get this Savage was a key player for us drivel I can only guess. Heskey was a powerful pacey striker, it is why Liverpool splashed the cash, remember him playing alongside Joachim who he outpaced when we played Norwich in our promotion season.

And that Kamark guy, excuse the spelling
_Fatboyslow_ Posted 31 December 2013 Posted 31 December 2013 Before we go any further under what set if rules would this game be played ? If it's the current rules guess new school on penalties 4-3 I reckon 5 pens, Nugent 4 one miss
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 31 December 2013 Posted 31 December 2013 Easy 4-0 win for MON's side. Savage, Elliot, Izzet, and Lennon, dominating, plus a hat trick for Heskey.
MrsJohnMurphy Posted 31 December 2013 Posted 31 December 2013 No, I was simply countering the argument against Owen who you were using the example of keeping a great striker in check to show he was great. Of course not, but like I said, who remembers individual bad games? I couldn't even tell you which games Matt Mills looked technically poor in but he certainly was and that was only a couple of years ago. But I certainly recall Elliott giving the ball away a lot. And now that I think about it, I may be wrong, but I can't even remember Leicester winning a single game by 4 goals under O'Neill, so have no idea why people think they would beat the current side 4 or 5 nil. You do you miserable git!! Nostagia pooper!!
Jobyfox Posted 31 December 2013 Posted 31 December 2013 I don't think the correct way of looking at it is to say one side would beat the other by this or that score. The old side were established premier league performers and would beat the new side 6 or 7 times out of ten. This isn't nostalgia. Lennon and Izzett were 2 of the best midfielders this club has ever had and some of the comments I've read above about Walsh, Guppy, Elliott etc. spectacularly underrates them.
wight88 Posted 31 December 2013 Posted 31 December 2013 Would the current derby side have beaten cloughies seventies boys? Would arrys QPR have done over the Hoops team of Bowles and Marsh and Francis? Would Leeds all conquering heroes have smashed Revies finest? Etc etc
