davieG Posted 29 January 2014 Posted 29 January 2014 I've mentioned it a few times how it's seemingly becoming the norm for people to firm up their views on life including football based on just reading the headline. Here's a classic example We feel unbeatable, says Leicester City midfielder Matty James By Mercury_Sport | Posted: January 29, 2014 By Rob Tanner Comments (0)Leicester City feel like they can win every game but they will not become over confident, midfielder Matty James has said. City broke the club record for consecutive league wins on Tuesday night when they beat Birmingham at St Andrew’s to make it eight victories on the trot. James admits the self-belief is flowing through the side. However, he said all the players know they still have a long way to go to clinch promotion. “We have to keep it going and not get too carried away,†said James. “We know it is close but there are a lot of games to go. There could be a few turning points but, if we keep doing what we are doing, it will be great. “I wouldn’t say we feel unbeatable but we are going into games with a lot of confidence. “We feel that no matter what happens in a game, whether we go one or two behind, we always feel we can rectify it. “In recent weeks, we have been very hard to score against and we wanted to keep another clean sheet at Birmingham. “These Tuesday nights have been key. Last season we lost quite a few of these. “Birmingham had been unbeaten in 10 games recently and they have a youthful, energetic team. It was a good win. “We have shown how experienced we are now. We know when to pass and when to come together and dig in.†City have beaten some in-form sides during their current impressive run, and James said the players were proud of breaking club records. “We have faced some good sides and put their runs to an end,†he said. “Middlesbrough and Derby were on good runs. We have played some big teams and beaten them. “It is great if we are breaking records. It is a great group of lads and staff. “Everyone is enjoying their football. Even the lads who aren’t getting a lot of football have been fantastic on the bench. “We have a great team ethic. We have a lot of competition for places. “Although it is going well now and we have won eight on the bounce, it can soon change and you will find yourself out of the team.†Read more: http://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/feel-unbeatable-says-Leicester-City-midfielder/story-20520741-detail/story.html#ixzz2rnd7BrPC
Fox92 Posted 29 January 2014 Posted 29 January 2014 Not just football, but in life... Media do this all the time, one of the many reasons I don't like them. But the worst is people will just read the headline, believe it then spread the word.

Benji Posted 29 January 2014 Posted 29 January 2014 Hah, I was going to post the same story for the same reason. They make you laugh - all the more reason to ignore transfer headlines and this guff about contracts.
Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 29 January 2014 Posted 29 January 2014 But in the very next line he contradicts himself; Moral of the story, footballers talk crap. Or the journalists ask crap questions?
Ford Super Sunday Posted 29 January 2014 Posted 29 January 2014 This is what you get when you chop sub-editors. The centralised, not based at the LM sub-editor has seen the opening sentence and come up with that headline as a result. They've not read the article and spotted the quote later on. Probably because they have a couple of other regional titles to sub-ed before the day is out.
Xen Posted 29 January 2014 Posted 29 January 2014 But in the very next line he contradicts himself; Moral of the story, footballers talk crap. To be fair to him, 'we always feel like we can rectify it' is NOT the same as 'we feel unbeatable'. It's implying that the team knows they have the ability to be able to bring themselves out of any losing situations, but not that they will manage to do so every time. Teams can often be on top and deserve something, but things not go their way and lose anyway. I think the first sentence in the article pretty much sums that up.
