Stadt Posted 14 February 2014 Posted 14 February 2014 People are speaking as if youth players don't get a chance here, if he was as good as some are making out he'd be involved in the match day squads even if he was only a bit part player.

To be fair not many do really... King, Schlupp and Moore are the main ones I can think of. At fear of getting Thracian started it does make you wonder what the real purpose of the Academy is? Then again, if we had sold Jeff and Moore for a few million, I suppose it would have paid for itself.
Banks Posted 14 February 2014 Posted 14 February 2014 Taft, Sesay and Cain look like they have real potential. What's happened to Panayiotou? Scored on his debut vs Leeds and he's vanished off the earth ever since.

Guest Col city fan Posted 14 February 2014 Posted 14 February 2014 The simple fact is that if they are good enough they would be playing. Not necessarily buddy. Some managers take more of a chance on bringing through potential, hoping they will realise it by having first team football. Whether you agree or not is your choice. You can't knock Nige though..top of the league and all that.
chili_con_carne Posted 14 February 2014 Author Posted 14 February 2014 A lot are talking nonsense saying if he was good enough he would already be in the squad. Gradel was nearly 21 when he made his league debut for Leicester. Now where is he ? An ivory coast international.

To be fair it was the most innocuous goal of all time and I haven't seen anything from youth games to say he would make any impact at this level.

I used to, sadly no time to now.
chili_con_carne Posted 14 February 2014 Author Posted 14 February 2014 On the bench for a shit mid table French team? Hahaha okay then. Anyone who isn't in the squad by 20 isn't good enough. I get you!
Guest MattP Posted 14 February 2014 Posted 14 February 2014 Do you watch the youth games buddy? I used to, sadly no time to now. I've probably watched 4-5 this season, not as much as some guys on here but enough to form a educated opinion. Sesay and Cain look by far the best prospects but are still a long way from first team quality imo (which is unlucky for them as any other time apart from this season in the last ten years they probably would be) which is more a testament to the manager and his scouting network than a genuine slander on the players themselves. It's been a tough time for our youth, Sven arrived first and obviously that means you may as well pack up and leave if you are a kid trying to make it and Nigel seems to build squads of such a high quality it will be hard to get a chance. Shows what a talent Liam Moore is as well to be able to get a game after all that nonsense of Moreno, Vitor, Bamba etc and also shows if you are good enough NP will give you that chance. Hahaha okay then. Anyone who isn't in the squad by 20 isn't good enough. I get you! Yeah that's exactly what I said.
chili_con_carne Posted 14 February 2014 Author Posted 14 February 2014 Must be why Izzet made his first league appearance when he was 21 ey ! Poor player that izzet. He never made it.

chili_con_carne Posted 14 February 2014 Author Posted 14 February 2014 Oh and st Etienne a poor side ? You clearly have no football knowledge. They would beat us very easily. You do know they drew with psg earlier in the season?
Hugo Sanchez Posted 14 February 2014 Posted 14 February 2014 George Taft went on loan and look completely out his depth. Liam Moore went on loan a couple times and both Brentford and Bradford fans were raving on about him. Then again didn't someone say Logan was awesome on loan ...
chili_con_carne Posted 14 February 2014 Author Posted 14 February 2014 Not to mention the fact they are fourth in the league. Not midtable. Gradel hasn't made it because he's on the bench in there team. He made his debut at 21 so he didn't make it as a player.
Guest MattP Posted 14 February 2014 Posted 14 February 2014 Oh and st Etienne a poor side ? You clearly have no football knowledge. They would beat us very easily. You do know they drew with psg earlier in the season? What;s your point? Cardiff beat Man City. One off game. They are having a decent season but the French league is pretty damn poor isn't it? Watched them once or twice but certainly nothing special and I certainly wouldn't be shitting myself if we had to play them given even average Premier League sides record against the best French sides in Europe over the last few years. That Hamouma is quality in midfield and I know they signed Brandao who is a good player. Maxi has hardly played this year anyway.
scousefox4 Posted 14 February 2014 Posted 14 February 2014 According to the club Tafty has 5 clubs chasing his signature but the club won't let him go out on loan due to only recently coming back from a cartilage operation & needs more game time with reserves
GingerrrFox Posted 14 February 2014 Posted 14 February 2014 It's funny that a lot of people slag off players like George Taft when in reality they are good young footballers. Sure they aren't on the level of the likes of Chalobah, Eric Dier etc etc but in the same instance Danny Drinkwater isn't as good as Steven Gerrard. They are at different levels of footballing ability hence why some are talked about as potential England internationals and players like Taft and Cain will in most likelihood end up being solid Championship/Lower level Premiership players.

I would live to play at there level, but if they do not get into the team, or are not good enough, being a professional footballer is still some achievement. Alot of people on here though do exaggerate the potential of some of these guys though which doesn't help when they don't make those expectations!!

There are soooooo many young players that look the dogs bollox at 16/17, and even older, that just don't make the big time. As said earlier, just look at all the Academy players at City, except Moore and Schlupp who have been released to lower league, relative obscurity. Lots of them.
andog Posted 14 February 2014 Posted 14 February 2014 Quality player. Definitely should be given a chance. Hopefully if we have 'nothing' games towards the end of the season, he'll feature then!

I was just trying to be polite, question is, in relation to our position in english football, how do our academy players fair, eg interms of £ or players in first team are we the 21st best tema!!

They do set themselves up though, if you start driving around in 80k cars after getting a Sventract dont be surprised if you cop some if you dont turn out as good as some. When Coalville beat them 3-1 in the summer their players were laughing and taking the piss as all the young City lads got into their beamers etc shouting shit like "thats being repossesed in a few years lads" And lets be honest they are probably right, what on earth are these lads going to do when they get to 35/40 and have become accustomed to a lifestyle they never earnt, I worry for a lot of them. Depression and suicide is a big thing in ex pros and I fear it will get to horrific levels in the future.
