Strikers

I dont think its any surprise that the two top teams in the league have a pair of strikers up front, cant understand playing one up front particularly at home like other sides do.  I think this is why both us and Burnley will go up

Burnley would be in trouble if they lost Ings or Vokes. At least we have a lot of good quality strikers

We have more strength in depth than Burnley in attack however they are a decent side all around to be fair to them do I think even without Ings they would be hard to beat

I thought FT had decided that over previous seasons all the promoted teams played with 5 in midfield (various formations)

I think it's more two settled teams with two good managers and everyone in the squad knows their place

None of the erratic nature of signing 842 midfielders like QPR, or 412 forwards like Forest with clown (surely to be revealed one day as a con man too) Fawaz Al Hasawi piping up all the time

Derby are reaping the rewards of a squad who's been together in a settled fashion, albeit with a management change to take them to the next level.

Billy Davies had a point the other day though with regards to us & Burnley mainly being injury-free this season... How would we fare if Schmeichel, Morgan, Drinkwater & Nugent were out for a while, similar situation with Burnley who have good & settled 'pairings' all over the pitch.

Sure we'd be able to say GTF or Phillips could step-up, but for how long in a starting line-up? or that Waghorn would be able to step-in but he lacks Nugent's quality and isn't a difference-maker. Wood could also step-up but for some reason the whole team plays differently when he plays and as a unit we don't seem as effective. The same goes for Drinky, Morgan & Schmeichel

The settled squad mentality bred by Pearson & Dyche is one of the reasons both squads are out-performing pre-season expectations on an ongoing and extremely consistent basis.

Only have to look at the chaos caused by some managers constant transfer activity to see how the 'whole' doesn't add up to the sum of its parts

Top post. I agree with every word.

It's not just down to bad luck that forest have got so many injuries(most of them are of a similar type too)whereas us and burnley have had relatively few

Reading the forest board it is obvious that this is a common occurrence with teams managed by Billy Davies

A lot of people say this.

But I think you can say the same for a lot of clubs including at least half the Premier League.

Plus even though we have depth in squad with our strikers I think losing Nugent or Vardy for a few games would make a bigger impact than some people think.

People said this when they lost Austin, and even Rodriguez before him.

That's because they were both replaced by similarly good players.

Given that the two have scored around 75% of Burnley's goals between them I think we can say with some confidence that they wouldn't be as good if they lost one of them.

True. I didn't expect those two to be as good as they have been.

Vokes as been around a bit, little stint in the Premier League, I never rated him that much and Ings joined Burnley with Howe and only managed 3 goals in each of his previous seasons with Burnley.

I have always liked 4-4-2 but I do worry about us playing it next year against sides full of quality. Drinkwater and James might be able to do a job against Championship teams playing five in the middle but I'm not sure if it they're going to manage it against three internationals most weeks.

They have Ashley Barnes now as well tbf. It's also not just Burnleys strikers. Their midfield is very accomplished too - Scott Arfield has come from nowhere this year. They play a slick style of football and are solid at the back making them easily the best team pitched against us this year.

When they played us at home I felt they could stake a decent claim to winning the game and they would be the only side to be able to say so to the KP. Watford deserved a point and forest were lucky against us but Burnley played some great football against. So without meaning to brown nose them they are a very good side beyond the undoubtedly talented front two. Dyche has done a great job.

Yes he has. Eddie Howe made some great signings and Dyche has complimented them with others. Arfield was a free transfer and Ashley Barnes is a player I've always liked.
